Anonymous, 07 Apr 2010Lol, yeah, a lot of Nokia phones have front facing cameras.... moreYou need medical help buddy because over a year ago you say that video calls was not important to Iphone users, now you have flipped you story around.
And as for nokia, samsung, htc that video calls work very perfect for mr because I have family & friends that are resident in over 50 countries around the world., so for you to say that video calls are not that important you are wrong.

So... for the past few years everyone's been talking how nobody uses video calls (or any other function the iPhone doesn't have). If this announcement is true, I bet they'll all be saying they video call all the time. So predictable. I use the video call camera quite often, but not for calls. For self portraits or as a mirror, like when trying out a new pair of sunglasses in a shop...

Anonymous, 07 Apr 2010i disagree about the point that apple makes video calling &... moreFirst let me ask you this. Where are you from? I'm in the US and there are no video calling plans here, or if there is, I am not even aware of it because it's so unpopular. I had the N95. I don't remember it giving me options to videocall, neither did my htc diamond or my lg viewty. All of them had frontfacing cameras. I go out everyday and I don't see anyone videocalling with their phones. Now why is that? I guess it's because the quality sucks, or the carrier does not offer it, or the phones have it for that purpose even when it's os and hardware is not yet really capable of deleivering decent quality videocalls, or it's impractically expensive, or a combination of all the above.

Before the iphone, smartphones already had internet. But when did web browsing standards on smartphones went higher? After the iphone. Because it was only with the iphone that you get awesome web browsing experience, and now everyone has raised their standards as well on web browsing on their phones.

No one cared so much for touchscreen phones before because they were so unresponsive to operate at times. When did the touchscreen on phones took off? Again it was after when iphone raised the bar on touchscreen phone quality that made people change their ways.

When did phonemakers start to cook up their own OS? Again, it was when iphone raised the bar on the importance of a capable OS.

When did all these app stores start popping up every where? Again it's when Apple raised the bar on how important 3rd party apps are and how important it is to provide a convenient one stop shop for its users.

And so on and so forth. Apple knows how things should work well. And that is not just dumping all features into a phone, but it is in making sure that those features makes sense for the hardware, the user, the carrier, etc to make a feature practically useable and not a feature that would just sit there and look pretty on the spec sheet.

Anonymous, 07 Apr 2010Give numbers? Look around you silly. Nobody's video calling."But do people really use them? Nope, lol."

Well obviously not where you can see them - who, in their right mind, would make a video call in a public place?

"Make sure that when Apple implements a feature on the iphone, it will actually be used."

The only reason why people go out of their way to use the obscure features that the iphone offers (and when I say obscure, I refer to features which have existed for millions of years, yet went unnoticed because everyone was too much of a pussy or idiot to get to know it) is to look cool. Let's not beat around the bush with that point. It's not any easier to use any of the features on the iphone than on any other phone - it's just prettier.

"Unlike other phonemakers who just dump all these features that are supposedly helpful but ends up useless because either the hardware or the OS is inadequate to really accomodate the feature. So users end up not using them."

This is what I was referring to. Give examples - and not biased examples, I'm talking about solid instances. Trashing other manufacturers based on such an absurd statement is just ridiculous. "Supposedly" helpful? A feature is a feature. End of story. If you're too dimwitted to make use of it, then don't blame the manufacturer, blame your lack of ability to adapt. Sure, I can agree that it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to make their device user-friendly, but to expect what the majority of users i've seen expect from manufacturers is just stupid. They're not making devices for monkeys. Use your bloody head.

My phones before had front facing camera... morei disagree about the point that apple makes video calling "make sense" or "easy to use". turn on any phone with that capability, go to any contacts details, view the contact options, and voila, you have the option to make a video call - and that's in the more complicated cases...

My phones before had front facing cameras, and not even once I have used them. But you see with the iphone, we might. You see when Apple puts in a feature into the iphone, they make sure that it makes sense and that it is useable. Apple does not just put in a feature just so it can look good on paper. If ever the next gen iphone would have a front facing camera for video call, you can be sure that Apple will make sure that their official carrier is capable to handle video calls specifically for the iphone, and that the quality would be at least decent. So yes, I just might start using it, but I don't know, I'm was never a fan of video calling.

Multitasking for ALL apps: Good, thats sounds good.
Video Calls: Bad. iPhone owners don't want that. If video calls were SO important at all, we all wouldn't have bought an iPhone, don't you all think?

You see what's funny about this is that the iPhone fans will now push the video call Features in a handset and everyone will start askeng when Nikia and Samsung and SE and LG will start to do video calling. This is what happened when Apple started to support "Tethered Modem".

That said I am sure that the Video calling will be clarer than Most other phones out there. I say this because even though the iPhone has a 2 Mega camera it still gets very good pictures, 8 or 12 mega are better but compared with other 2,3 or some 5 mega the apple still boasts a good quality image.

Still it would be good to see Apple push the boundries with its s/w and h/w.

any who wait and see i guess.
