The Nokia Ovi Stores hits 1.6 million downloads per day

14 April, 2010
Only a month ago around 1.5 million apps were downloaded from the Ovi Store each day and now the down- loads per day reach 1.6 million. That sure sounds impressive. But the App Store could only laugh at...

    the OVI store really sucks.
it has no good apps and cannot be compared to the Apple App store.

Don't compare to the App Store. Compare to Android Market. That's the more relevant comparison. They both started about the same time. And both markets are a source of apps in an open environment where users can get apps elsewhere.

When you compare to Android Market, you can still see how poorly Ovi is doing. Sure the numbers of downloads are high. But that's spread out over a bunch of models. Androids got fewer models, yet developers are still piling on 5000 new apps per month into Android Market. That should tell you where developers are placing their bets. Android Market is the fastest growing app market/store right now. It'll outpace Apple's app store in months and outgrow it in a few years if this keeps up. Compared to that scenario, Ovi isn't so hot.

if i wanted to play games, it wouldnt be on my phone, trust me. it doesnt beat a pc by far.

on a side note, maemo has ALL the apps i need, even if they only have 200 apps. thats all i need. if i need something else, there is deb files like google chrome.

You know what I would like to see?

A New N-Gage, which caters for faster processors and graphics chips. Nokia could have come up with winner with the last generation, but spread it too thinly across too many device. Mile High Pinball, Reset Generation, Bounce Boing Voyage and Hooked on:Fishing were all great games. The limitations of the format though meant it got old really quickly, and they took out the GFX chips from the N-series :(

                So much potential.

The point of the App store and Ovi is so that developers get paid for their work.

Smart developers go where the money is, which is the App store.

That's why the App store dominates, the App store has most of the Ovi store apps plus a LOT more.

Yap,Symbian was & is the best OS till now in the world.But,future.....bad(i think so),coz,Nokia now a days wants other kind of OS(Like MEEGO).But,i think it will b bad for company.Coz,already some big software company r confused to for which model & which kinds resolutions app & games they will make.(exp:there is no any sis format fifa10 from EA was not release, but in otherhand they make a HD FIFA10 for iph0‹2ne & Gameloft...they already leave the symbian os,etc)So i think its time to take a good decision for Nokia.

                              Cannot compare apples to oranges.

Nokia apps are available elsewhere and users are not locked into OVI monopoly like iPhone users are locked into AppStore monopoly run by Apple.

Someusers may prefer bying from the place where they bought apps in the past due to discounts and convenience of going to single place.

Symbian has been on the market much longer than iPhoneOS. If I have Symbian apps, I do not need to visit any store at all.

Comparing it with the Apple Appstore is stupid to be very honest ... if u have an IPhone (not jailbroken), u will need to go and only go to the App Store to get apps...

On the other hand, Symbian users are not tied to Ovi Store per say .. There are free to download apps not just from Ovi Store but also a lot of other places ... and not all symbian apps are on the Ovi Store ,..., A majority of brilliant apps (like epocware or LCG) are still sold thru their own website and not ovi store

[deleted post]Iphone is good only in user experience. The rest features is useless. . . . . More Nokia mobiles are sold till today iPhone.
Nokia is No.1, visit any website you'll get Nokia first, expect apple.com offcourse.
We have nokiasoftware.com, symbiantalk.net, ipmart.com, opda.hk, mobile9.com, getjar.com, etc that provides all the great symbian apps, cracked n hacked for free. And we don't have to pay a cent or dollar$$. . ! And i love symbian n nokia for that. They give freedom to users. Whereas apple has only app store. What a garbage!

I'm a active Nokia user and I barely use ovi store.. 1.6 M downloads are only from Ovi store but if you count total numbers of downloads by Nokia user per day, it will be easily cross the mark of 20M downloads per day .

Other than that, Nokia apps can be found for free on hundreds and hundreds of websites, you don't need to go Ovi.

Of course Nokia does mind a bit, but they can't forbid anything cause it's the customers phones, cause they bought it.

Nokia thinks open development is good for the social mobile society.

Adversity breeds evolution as they say.

                                        This is kinda misleading.

The reason Ovi store has less total downloads than Appstore is because Nokia phones already comes pre installed with about more then 75% of the social, map, office and connection apps in the OS, these are the apps that iPhone users has to download and pay for, all part of elaborate scheme by Apple to to make money.

People don't understand how much Nokia give you when you buy the phone and how little you actually need to download to complete the phone.

Instead people stare themselves blind at Apples twilight fascist/kapitalist diktatorship over their customers money.

Apple sells you a car without wheels, steering and seats and if a Apple store is the only place you can buy them then of course they will make money.

Nokia give you everything a new car should have and more, no need to buy parts.
