If there is anything that needs to be followed or be bothered about are those Chinese companies getting competitive year over year. When anything can happen, I would rather not dismiss the slightest hint of possibility that any of these Chinese companies bump major companies up top down the ranks. Lenovo has been making big bold daring moves or changes and has been public about them. Delivery of at least one or more of these company endeavors should say something, correct? Whether these initiatives, later on, lead to some sort of diversion or a marketing ploy/strategy that would deflect to the general public as deception, they are not just something to shun or discount. And whether one favors these undertakings or not, they will always be recorded in history. It is just appropriate for Lenovo or Motorola to have them out such news as publicly as they should before the general public would have speculated behind any of the two companies that secret deals, trades, transactions, or contracts had been agreed upon behind either company's walls; or before the general public would have conspired that at least something had transpired. As with any other company, when such actions or decision-making happen, what remain equivocally evident to the general public or consumer are the changes the company undergoes internally. Are company policies, terms, and conditions vacillating? Are they remodeling or redesigning their managerial or organizational structure? Any equipment or facilities needing a revamp? Is there transfiguration happening with their workforce, manpower, personnel, staff? What new modifications or standards take effect withing their manufacturing department? What old regulations or guidelines their sales department trim or reposition alongside new ones? What new procedures they enforce or what old SOPs do they reinforce? These are internal shifts they do not necessarily publicize.

As for Sony as well as other popular companies then and now (HTC, LG, Samsung), years ago, they all had their fair share of customer gripes when it came to their delayed OS updates. They were criticized by consumers for that and so, in response, they have undergone changes and made it well through the years. Also kindly do NOTE, that some companies are even able to skip an OS update or two and leap to the latest or newer updates. That does not necessarily nor automatically mean aspiring smartphone companies are in no indication following suit. One could not deny timely updates are something Nexuses, Android Ones, Google Play Edition of devices, and Apple products enjoy because they are what Google and Apple prioritizes. But timely updates are by no means have any direct relation to how long a device is supported. A device assured for timely updates is not a guarantee it will be supported with timely updates for so long, say 5 to 10 years down the line?

I would suggest anyone to give the update list a review and give it another year or two. There is your record right there and go tracking henceforth

The original Moto X was a flagship phone, yet it's not even fully patched for stage fright. Heck, it's not even updated to 5.1.1

          In comparison:
HTC One M7, flagship, didn't get updated to 5.1, but at least HTC fully patched it for stage fright
Sony Xperia Z1, flagship, fully updated to 5.1.1 and patched.

Show me Lenovo's track record in updating their phones.

If I am going to spend money on a non-Nexus phone, I would go with Sony first.

I have a laptop made by them and it is very good. But, in a Marketing perspective, this is a bad decision. Indian people are highly sensitive to price, as Americans and Canadians are not. They go for the best phone they can get or the best phone for their kid at a maximum value. The Brazilian market - a market very like India - has grown in offers, as Asus and Xiaomi arrived at the country and Microsoft has much success, and a "new" brand like Lenovo will lose ground, ground that is already conquered by Motorola.

The potential good news: Motorola phones might be available officially in more countries. Currently, Motorola phones are only available in select few countries in official matter, with many countries in Asia not having access to them.

The bad news: We might forget about updates. Lenovo's track record in updating their phones timely is nonexistent. Motorola was doing fine under Google, and the minute they were under Lenovo, updates are already slow and late (it took the first Moto X forever to get Lollipop, and not it didn't even get updated to 5.1.1 nor fully patched for stagefright)

it should be the other way around.. ditch lenovo brand in smartphone business and maintain motorola branding.. lenovo should stick name in pc and server business because they created a lot of trash phones.

The end has come for Motorola now. This is due to their slow innovation in the fast phase of mobile technology. They were simply left behind to the point that they could no longer catch the race. Motorola should have fired their innovation engineers and planners who have failed to follow the race at least if not being able to forecast the future or anticipate maybe. I have strong doubt on the other hand if Nokia can come back as promised last year. But it seems no smoke coming out from the company yet...

I had used Talkabout and Motorola accompli, two Motorola handsets, in the past. They were great phones. I used Lenovo K90 for less than 3months. I abandoned it. Motorola should have weathered it through to improve her brands.

Also, the nostalgic feel sake was there, as there's no Nokia, Siemens or Ericsson phones no mo, it was refreshing to see Motorola being the last one holding it down. It does feel like a sign of new times, the last old school major phone company down, and bought and brought down by the Chinese at that, just to broaden their phone portfolio.

Motorola is not Motorola now anyway, why the hate? I think it adds transparency that when you're buying a Lenovo phone you'll know you're buying a Lenovo phone. If I bought the right to use "Mercedes" branding, would you want to buy cars I made in my own garage with a Benzo logo, or would you prefer me calling them what they are? I think it's fair. Just as when they purchased the computer division of IBM, they immediately made it known.
