Bummer. The word "Lenovo" to me says "cheap." The word "Motorola" says "quality" and "engineering." Does not seem like a good marketing decision.
Lenovo was smart to stick with the ThinkPad brand on those laptops. And that has paid off. If Motorola phones aren't doing as well as they like, that's because of Lenovo's own business decisions, not because the Motorola brand doesn't have more value than the Lenovo brand.

There is only a M symbol in current moto phones... So there will be lenovo logo below moto's...
.
That's great, instead of another brand, lenovo wants to make moto as a phone series like VIBE

Eske Rahn, 08 Jan 2016It could be a smart move. Motorola has a grand history, but... moreOutside of tech enthusiasts, when you mention Motorola most people will recognize the name however the next question they'll would be asking"...is that company still alive??"
The brand has lost a lot of luster over the years, though they're not ditching the name completely, just shortening it to Moto for the premium phones while Vibe gets the lower end stuff. It's an interesting move, we'll have to see how it turns out.

Should have combined brand like Sony did with Sony Ericsson.. The name itself still exudes an aura even today.. Lenovo can go with Lenovo Moto or Moto Lenovo and create a new logo for the merge.. Then it can take over the world..

Motorola is a tier one brand. Lenovo might be big in computers but no one trusts the name in mobile. This is a waste of money to buy a brand and toss it aside.

LMFAO, 08 Jan 2016Yeah it is really a bad move, lenovo will sell less smartph... moreNot really. As the article said, they will still use the name and logo of motorola, they will be just adding lenovo's name to it in the meanwhile, so the not well versed people will know eventually that motorola is part of lenovo and that way lenovo name will replace motorola completely.

Great great great!
So now the world ditched the smartphone founders' name.
First Nokia and now Motorola.
Shame on you Microsoft, You see how you are in a free fall after you removed the legend Nokia name.
Lenovo, you are next... Enjoy your next epic fail!

Eske Rahn, 08 Jan 2016It could be a smart move. Motorola has a grand history, but... moreSame here, I'm not so young any more and still have good memories of my Motorola flip and feature phones. Out of 4 Motorolas that I have 3 still work, including original bateries. It's a positive brand for me. Always had personality, style, good reception, reliable software, good manufacturing... And now it seems the brand will be gone just like Nokia, Ericsson, Siemens... Just sad. I'm afraid that very soon we'll just have iPhone and iPhone wannabes left to choose from.

Unbelievable! They invent brands such as Zuk and kill off one of the most popular and renowned brands in the world? The world owes a lot of the essential mobile phone technology to Motorola.

Such a bad move. OK, so Motorola isn't the dominant brand it once was but it's still far more widely known in the world of communications. In fact it's probably THE biggest brand name in the communications world after NOKIA, pioneering and genuinely historic. Surely it would have been better to give Lenovo's phones sone kudos by rebranding them as Motorola instead of the other way around? Lenovo for computers and tablets, Motorola for the phones business?
RIP Motorola.

Eske Rahn, 08 Jan 2016It could be a smart move. Motorola has a grand history, but... moreMany "youngster" rely on the "old folks" with regards to their financial spending. As an "older" one you should know. So obviously your opinion does matter perhaps even more. Let's not forget that the real youngsters among us don't even have the money to buy the real expensive stuff.
