AnonD-490087, 18 Jan 2016what is bootloader? and what is effect of its locking on pe... moreThe process of unlocking/locking the bootloader the itself doesn't affect the performance of the device in general. A locked bootloader means that the software can't be tampered with at a deep level. An unlocked bootloader allows precisly that, allowing modders & tinkerers to change the OS to get rid of bloatware (a common sight on modern smartphones) & to change the kernal allowing the hardware to run more effecicntly & even overclock (for perfrormance) or underclock (for extended battery life) the CPU if you want.

Bad news. It's one thing to lock the bootloader but another to make it so complicated to get the thing unlocked. Why?

I think it is in respond to comply with the security requirement that Google put out for native fingerprint support. Google explicitly require no access to fingerprint data outside the chip. Xiaomi is probably just playing it safe. Majority of people won't know what a bootloader is, and Xiaomi can deliver the experience inline to what people expect form Android.

Moving from Wi jail to An jail. It is getting better all the time.
I really hate the pre-loaded software which occupy the so limited storage space.

The boot loader is the first piece of software started by the Bios or UEFI. It is responsible for loading the kernel with the wanted KERNEL parameters, initial RAM disk, before initiating the BOOT proces.

Anonymous, 18 Jan 2016Doesn't matter as I been using MIUI stable ROM since day 1,... moreMIUI 7 shipped with the Redmi Note 3 is more rubbish than a lot of other ROMs. The recent apps (multi-tasking) button only shows icons of apps, not a graphical representation of the screen of apps as in the stock Lollipop (though I personally am not a fan of the 'carousel style' of the stock ROM). But much more annoying is that floating video players perform erratically. Gplayer runs, but cannot play videos (tapping on a video thumbnail; nothing happens. Moboplayer can be installed, but cannot be run (after loading screen shows up for 1 or 2 seconds, it simply quits. BSplayer, Awesome pop-up video player, and KMplayer can play video in floating pop-up window, but the window cannot be moved nor resized. Moreover, onscreen controls cannot be trickled nor operative on the floating window. This is kind of rubbish (I have an engineering degree; and this kind of error in a finished software OS is considered irresponsibility). When you modified an already well-behaved product feature, you must expect negative consequences resulting from your software coding. Then you should test, monitor, and make acceptable corrections before launching the product). Even a dual-boot device (with an Intel Atom CPU which used to be foreign to the Android OS) is much more polished in term of app compatability than this MIUI.
