LG went OLED?!?!? :D OMG that would be so awesome, and it would boost the sales of the G-series so hard. Hope everyone follows after such case.

While some LCD screens do have this or similar functions, it's not very power efficient. To show something on only a portion of an LCD display, the whole backlight has to come on, which draws power. On OLED displays, since every individual pixel is powered separately, it is much more energy efficient, because only specific pixels turn on.
This means that:
- the G5 has an LCD display with some new technology that can power on the backlight, but reduce power draw
- the G5 has an S/AMO/LED display
- the G5 has a much larger battery than its predecessors which can use this function and last at least a day of usage.
Let's wait and see. :)

How is this a new feature? This is years old technology. GSMArena are you drunk?
The title should have been 'LG finally tries catching up with Nokia and Microsoft with their 'Glance Screen'-like feature that's going to be present in their G5 phone'
Anyway, this won't get to the same level of quality that Glance Screen has, so if you want this feature, get a Microsoft (or Nokia) phone.

Wow...this is a really exciting time to be looking for a new flagship phone. I am a notifications junkie and I would love an always-on screen. To be honest, a notification LED is also quite sufficient if properly used (LightFlow), but many of today's phones don't have this very useful feature, and that's why I'm not buying Motorola or any Lumia phone. They have the "glance" mode or "active display" but those modes are basically useless, you can't see notifications from across the room or even from 1 meter away, or if you are let to set them as always-on, they drain the battery fast. So here's hope that LG G5 will have a true always-on mode with minimal battery impact...however this would mean that it has an OLED screen !

I hate this feature. I wish there's an option for LED notification light like on the Nexus 5X and 6P. LG V10 doesn't have LED notification light and I off the second screen when standby.

As awesome as the feat is, considering the work they put into it wrt the battery life and all, this is still at the core, a useless feature. An always on screen on a smartwatch would be alot more viable.

LG and Samsung...dudes. Always being copycats. One from Apple, others from Nokia/Microsoft. No surprise here. This feature is SOOO 2000 and late!:))) I have used and still can use this feature, which is INVENTED by Nokia for 10 years or so. So, great "innovation"!:))) You should mention, who you copied from:)

On the other hand LG does not quite make it in the mobile sector as well. And it is not Microsoft with its huge portfolio and cash pile. Maybe you are under 20 or still at school:) Don't worry.

AnonD-111968, 10 Feb 2016Less than 2 weeks to launch, still is quite about the LG G5... moreThe poor battery life is due to the inefficient Snapdragon processors in 2015 (Snapdragon 808 and 810). And the G3 has QHD screen resolution paired with Snapdragon 801. QHD is pointless, even if it's paired with a better SOC.
