Sony officially confirms that future Xperia Z phones won't happen

25 February, 2016
We finally have an official statement from Sony to clear up the confusion.

Generally speaking, for me it is a complete bad bad news, for the reason that I truly have a passion for everything regarding technology, even the smallest & simple spec/s, then as a priority everything of it that is the latest, best and most innovative, & the Xperia Z series, despite its ups and downs like everything else, was really as Sony's said "Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones". So in that way, definitely it's a bad news!

Whatever they call it its all the same. Same blocky bulky boring design. I like sony. When xperia z3 was released.i t was the best among other flagships. But no one need sony. High pricing is one of the reason. I dont know. Somethings always wronrwith sony. May be the boring ui. Whatever.

I'm sad but this is great. And I love the fact that all phones in this X lineup have 5" full HD displays. Perfect size. If only they could make it better quality (better contrast, better colours, better brightness). iPhone's IPS LCD still looks better than theirs.

Having been a huge Sony fan for years, I have to say this is probably a parting of the ways between Sony and me....let's hope this change in direction is not fatal for Sony!

Why are some people still making stupid comments that the Xperia Z line might not be dead, it's been confirmed by Sony, so why even discuss the possibility of it still being alive. Yes it is very sad, I'm lucky, I've got the 2 best devices the Z Ultra and the Z3 Tablet Compact, no need for me to worry about these very bland X series devices for a year or two, but it's still shocking they've made this bad choice, whatever next.

But the compacts have always been released (or rather, announced) at IFA in September. It does make me wonder though, reducing the display to 5" on the new X models makes me wonder if there is really room for a compact in the plans. What size would it be, 4.6" again? That would be okay with me if they really did a job on the bezels like the XA. The others seem a step backwards in finishing, if you ask me, as nice as the brushed metal is.

That's true for the US site, but in most European sites the Xperia X range also appears dead last. (I suspect they order them according to what they need to sell *right now*)

However, I would certainly like that you were right and that a future Xperia Z was in the works.

This is a little sad. The only thing that particularly bothers me though, is that the X line doesn't have a Compact model. Hopefully there will be one of some kind announced soon.

Hmm... Marketing or not (of course there´s marketing - it always is!) Sony has/had to do something. Their catalogue of phones haven´t progressed in years and it feels like they are doing great hardware, but not succeeding in marketing/corporate strategy etc. Their phones have been lacking a little "oumph" as well.

The X line is a necessary move, though I will miss the Z-line (Z3 Compact-owner at the moment). It´s all subjective, but I favored the design of the Z-line. From the first Z to the Z5, the cellphone design just got better and better. Clean, sophisticated, original. In my opinion Sony had their own minimalistic style in comparision with other manufacturer´s. Now they´re moving closer to the Samsung/LG/HTC-look. But hey, that´s just me.

I´m a Sony fan and I hope they will have great future success. I will purchase Z5 and hope for support. Hopefully the X line can allure me in near future. Best of luck.

AnonD-226698, 25 Feb 2016If you check Sony Mobiles history you will see that they do... moreThat's the point, people aren't enraged because of "change". They are enraged because the new chapter of that "change" begins with a product that has no arguments against it's newer rivals and -- to some extend -- is actually a regression from the series it is supposed to replace.

If you can't understand that, then you have bigger issues to deal within yourself.
