AnonD-451592, 25 Feb 2016RIP xperia Z series = RIP Sony mobileIf you check Sony Mobiles history you will see that they do this change every 3 to 4 years. Go back a decade and you will see that they had the very famous W's, the C's And even some Z's. The X line is also not new... Sony had the X, the X2 (Both Window's phones) the X8 and even an X10 their first Android unit. This is why I as a Sony follower can't comprehend for the life of me why people are so enraged about the change.
Sony tends to classify each line with a new letter based on the main features...all in all this is an old School move by sony coming from its Sony Ericsson days and so far the units look good.

I asked a Sony Rep about this and he gave me the statement above word for word, so it looks to be official. The strange part is having a lesser unit become a flagship. Let's take the Z5 premium...the only thing the Xp has on it is the SoC 820 Qualcomm chip. The units look good though.

AnonD-246723, 25 Feb 2016No one is getting nexus 5x anyway .While that may be true, who would want a $329 weak mid-range phone? I agree that the Nexus 5X isn't exactly the best choice, i was just throwing other options out there."Cheap phones are getting good. And good phones are getting cheap." Be prepared to see various companies bring out flagship caliber phones for a compelling price.. This new Sony line is over priced, i doubt they will sell well. Their mobile division might die out all together in a few years..

This quote doesn't mean the Z series is being discontinued. An official Sony spokesman said that the Z line will continue while the X series will be considered midrange contenders.

AnonD-405901, 25 Feb 2016What are the prices of X series?Xperia XA - EUR 299 (329 USD)
Xperia X - EUR 599 (660 USD)
Xperia X Performance - No price available yet, will be higher than Xperia X naturally..
As you can see the prices are pretty steep, the cheapest is the Xperia XA but for $329 USD you can get a Nexus 5X, Motorola Pure Edition 16GB, OnePlus 2 16GB.. The Xperia X will cost the same as a Samsung S7 and is not a true flagship device.. Prices are ridiculous for what you're getting, in my opinion anyway..

Jumbo, 25 Feb 2016Like I said, I couldn't really care either, but the point w... moreThat's like saying the s6 isn't a flagship because it didn't have usb 3.0 and IP 67.
And not as many phones have 1440p as you'd think. HTC doesn't, Chinese brands don't, iPhone doesn't. Only LG, Samsung, and some Motorola phone (think it's just one of them) use 1440p. Are you seriously claiming nobody else has a top end phone and everything else is mid - range? Nobody in their right mind calls a phone with a top chipset a mid - range.
At most it's a budget high-end, but apparently the only places they're skimping out is display and 4k recording, the latter of which is completely useless. So even budget high-end doesn't fit.

This just means Sony have moved from the letter "Z" to the letter "X", increase the prices as it is a "new chapter", but the phones will be just like the Z range.
Sony; clever advertising to make new levels of profits.

I have been with sony since the original z. I was hoping to get the z5 premium with its 5.5 in screen, but since the x phones have a smaller 5in screen, I will have to leave sony. Guys with big hands need big phones. Bye Sony, it was nice while it lasted.

May be this is the beginning of a little low cost flagship...I believe companies can't put big new things (innovation) every time..that's the result most of editions are similar somewhat...even mosr new additions arent that much useful for casual user...i believe at least here in indi most people needs affordable flagships with some new features and tricks..
