Sony officially confirms that future Xperia Z phones won't happen

The prices on the new "X' line are ridiculous. The Xiaomi Mi 5 eats those phones for breakfast.. at only half the price! The only solid Sony phone was the Z2.. it was built well, and worked wonderfully. The Z3 was plagued by hardware issues and the Z4 (Z3+) was nothing to write home about. The Z5 looks great but doesn't really offer anything different. The new "X" line looks promising but only if the prices would be way more competitive. How do they expect to sell at such high prices when the phones lack some flagship material features??

makes sense since the X performance already is flagship-grade. better continue it from there than have that AND a Z6.

...and the growth continues unabated!
Xperia X Performance is 5.5 mm wider and 16.4 mm taller than the Z3 Compact, which is already bigger than I'd like.
I'm afraid this madness will only stop when there will be a wholesale replacement to a smartphone form factor (e.g. a self-sufficient headset + VR glasses) :(

Geez, they have been lacking of innovations for such a long time and new Xperia X brought only a new back case.

AnonD-442781, 25 Feb 2016Most people don't have a device which can display 4k conten... moreLike I said, I couldn't really care either, but the point was about the device's positioning in the market. Useful or not, the fact is that no manufacturer can really claim that their device is "top-of-the-line" if it doesn't have the specs of a device that was released two years ago. Just look at all the stick Sony kept getting for only releasing their phones with FullHD instead of 2K. And 4k isn't even anything --difficult-, the chipset supports it just fine so they've clearly actually ---deliberately--- chosen not to support the feature that was already present in the Z series.
If that's not a sign that this isn't meant to compete in the top-end, I dunno what is. And yet they still price it like it should be.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2016Have you seen gsma writing "might not have mind blowing inn... moreactually the dual pixel technology is a game changer. S7 has something to brag at least than this new Sony xperia X. this new ZXX that almost no change at all compare to that Z5 (much worst actually in some point)? GSMArena is just being honest. Sony did nothing about this just a new metalic backplate and new naming. what are you talking about jealous LG fan? what really special and innovative with that modular thing? I'm sorry to tell you but many people (including me) find it none sense and unnecessary at all. only few (including you probably) find it useful to be honest.

Have you seen gsma writing "might not have mind blowing innovation" on any S7 article, when "innovation" wise they are just the same as X Performance here? Sounds fishy, isn't it?
The only innovation this MWC seems to come from LG actually.
(okay, if one goes gaga over S dual pixel cam, X Performance also has new camera module and new battery tech).
