You also have to remember the limited frame rates and the huge amount of space it takes that makes it useless for people who want to leave it on their phone. But as a marketing gimmick, I dunno.

Their bezels! Like... Sigh. Too thick. Other than that, I like their design.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2016I'm huge Sony fan and don't like laggy Samsung. I have a Z3... moreI'm still using Z1 Compact as it has all the style and most of the balls. Z3 compact is still a much better buy than Z5 Compact at the moment and now they're both a few legs behind the perf. grade too. Really a shame to think I'll never get Marshmallow on this and will need to upgrade to something less satisfying than I have now.

Anonym, 25 Feb 2016Remind me again of what this Xperia X (Performance) brought... moreYep, it doesn't really bring anything. Due to the slick design I'd take it over LG and its useless gimmicky modules. But in the end if I wanted a cheaper phone I'd go for mi 5 and if I wanted the best I'd go for the s7.
But mi 5 isn't going to officially be available in the west for quite some time, if ever, so if you take that out of the equation it seems like a good deal. In the end I doubt it'll sell well, but HTC will go out of business first.

The thing missing is display, but not really when the premium only used it when looking in Sony's default picture app. So basically barely ever. So this can be dismissed.
In reality, it is only missing very few things that actually matter (potentially waterproofing but this isn't guaranteed, after all they removed this from their previous phones warranty and that's potentially all that's happening here).

The things I want from a phone are simple: Flagship performance in a small & stylish body. Sony has delivered this for three straight generations of Compact, and on top of that threw in further trump cards:
- Waterproof
- Great battery life
- SD option
And they were the only ones to do it. I'm pessimistic about an X-series compact because they have already moved from 5.2" on the standard Z to 5 on the X, a 4.6 or 4.7 wouldn't make much sense anymore. And even if there was, the X design seems a step backwards from [the original] Omnibalance. Even the Z5 was lacking already. Don't get me wrong, the metal back is delicious but the front & form are decidedly average. So I don't have much faith that Sony will produce an equivalent suitable compact in this series. And I don't see anyone else doing so either so it's really a sad development. :/

I'm huge Sony fan and don't like laggy Samsung. I have a Z3. Superb phone. It's very sad that there will be no Z6. I don't want to upgrade. Z3 is still powerful device. I will buy new Sony phone later maybe after 5 years. Buying phones very often is waste of money.
I want a 8GB ram Sony phone:)

Maybe they did away with the Z naming because some products clashed with BlackBerry Z series

Remind me again of what this Xperia X (Performance) brought that other phones (Sony or otherwise) didn't already have? What does it do better than all other new flagships (S7, G5, heck... even the Mi5)?
I really don't see how this is a step in the right direction, more like another painful nail is Sony's mobile division. (which is sad)

First of all I have tried all the phones from various companies, Apple, Samsung to LG, I have always loved Sony phones and there little logos and designs, I got the Xperia Z as it was elegantly designed and was water resistant, then it started getting lame, there was no innovation except changing the processor in the Z2, Z3, Z5 line ups, they looked and felt almost like the Z, except for maybe the Z5 premium, the Z5 premium they should had a way to render 2k, or 4k screens in all of its user experience, but they didn't.
With the introduction of the New X series which is nice, they changed the design a bit which is a good thing, but kept old technology within them, they should have at least opted for an Quantum Triluminious Display with some new Tech, or at least bumped up the resolution to 2k, Sony hire me and I will give you way better ideas than your current line up.

Based on the new X series from Sony, I would recommend that they use the design from Xperia XA and employ the specs from the Xperia X Performance. As you can see, the XA is more elegant( hopefully make it full metallic as well) than rhe other variants. The 5-inch display with Fhd display is just perfect. Hopefully, the os update will be alot faster and the UI should should be redesigned to make it more appealing. Lastly, since alot of phones now are IP certified, Sony should be introducing new feature that would make different/unique from the rest! Still love my Xperia Z5 Premium!!

Lex79, 25 Feb 2016Decrease production costs would be the most obvious thing, ... moreWhich they're not, poor marketing has been their main problem all along.
That, and also, charging unrealistic prices without the 'street cred' to warrant it. Sony seems to think that their good name in other electronics means people will still pay a premium for their phones.. in which they appear to be wrong...

atlast sony is realising that only style will not bring customers it should also have usabilty. all z series were sharp flat design which was very unpleasent to hold. Now atlast there are some curves with metal design in x series. Also I think x series will bring usability and style. Samsung always beleived in design for humans.. their S3 with pebble design was an example..now also after using glass they have achieved beautiful curves in s7 using some 3d hot moulding technique...mi5 also have learned from old mistake of flat design of mi4... And also all flagship now near 5inch screen. Sony x series all have 5 inch...
I think 2016 will restart the practical design philosophy...once lost after the exit of nokia.
