Nokia N8 first official video demo comes out, not bad at all

28 May, 2010
Nokia has obviously put a lot of eggs in the N8 basket and is keen to convince us that it's a phone worth having. Nokia has just released the first of a trilogy of videos that demonstrate the new Symbian^3 user interface...

I honestly don't understand why Nokia decided to use such an outdated processor for their new flagship device. You can notice a lot of optimization is done in the video, but some of the operations that require more house power like the web browser will quickly make the poor processor obvious.

I really can't wait for the release in August. I have been stucked to Nokia since E51. Then I owned the 5800 and now the N97. They all delivered very well what I expected to be delivered: listening to music, watching videos, making phone calls and playing some games.
I don't need e-mail or internet on my phone. My Notebook is more useful for this. I hope that the rumoured 32GB-Version will see the daylight. But I hope also that I will not become weak when the Samsung I8910 Beam has it's coming out in July. We will see...

Niraj, 29 May 2010Have you used Nokia phone before?? Nokia can also give you... moreYes, I have and I've got a crap NK5800 which I can't wait to dispose of, the call quality is pretty good, not outstanding as the older Nokia's have been, nor has the reliability been there it's had to go back to the repair centre twice.

Anson, 29 May 2010i've been saying "nokia" from day 1, i don't know... moreyou have to see things in different perspectives. people today only care about specs in terms of speed and performance. when they see nokia coming out with devices with 680mhz instead of 1ghz, they assume its slow, when in actuality, it performs exactly where it needs to be. like someone said earlier in the comments, your life isn't going to end if the wallpaper doesn't change right away. sure this phone lags, but what doesn't? all phones will lag.

as for those isheeps, yeah the iphone set the bar for touchscreens, but touchscreens aren't a necessity: blackberry seems to do just fine with only 2 touchscreen phones.

i've been saying "nokia" from day 1, i don't know what y'all basing your opinions on but i really don't see how apple and samsung models can be compared to nokia. The new iphone still cannot compete the n95 far more the n8. Done talk!!!

Nokia can also give you 2,3,4. While I also want to see if the symbian^3 will be as stable or not.. But Nokia makes reliable phones.. Only N97 was a failure..

Dave, 29 May 2010All I want out of a so called smartphone is: 1/ Excellen... more1/ Excellent call quality. - Yeas Nokia re the still make the best "Phones". Even their 1100 has great call quality.

2/ The capability to surf the web - Even tried Opera mini and Skyfire on a symbian. Full Flash support, Great graphic and speed. Or better yet what about the N900, no other device can match is browsing capability.

3/ Send Emails with attachments - Are we in year 2004, cause thats when Nokia could do that.

4/ Read PDF files - A PDF reader and Office editor comes with most symbian phones, if not, it can be easily downloaded for any Symbian phone.

5/ Have great customer support when the phone goes wrong. - Software issue? Just reset the whole thing and restore from the backup. Hardware issue? Support is quite good actially.

6/ A reliable phone. - Yeah, try running an Iphone, a 5800, and a Galaxy S from in a dryer and guess which survives.

Anonymous, 29 May 20103D games??? but for me better play games with portable cons... moreHello we are looking for a single device that we can walk with and do almost anything other portable devices like digital cameras, gaming devices.netbooks,mp3 players can do its that simple. If you say you'd rather use the psp another will say he'd rather use an ipod than use his phone for music. As we are moving to the future mobile phones are looking to be in a strong position of replacing netbooks and other simple multimedia devices.

All I want out of a so called smartphone is:

                            1/ Excellent call quality.

5/ Have great customer support when the phone goes wrong.
                            6/ A reliable phone.

Unfortunately Nokia, can only give me 1 & 5 and 5 is stretching it a bit too.

As someone has pointed out, Symbian has been around quite a while now & it should be well in front of what & where it is now, others have quite simply surpassed it in power, usability & reliability.

Android has been around for around 18 months or so & it's following has increased exponentially, the updates are getting more frequent and the fan base seems to be more than happy, which is more than can be said of the Nokia camp.

[deleted post]It simply shows the majority of people who come to bash other phones be nokia or iphone or android are just kids who don't even know the full use of their smartphones all they want is some high specs to show off and some cool 3D effects to show of to their friends and not really use their phone for usefull things, others come here bashing that this os has more usefull applications than the other brand but in reality all the os offers great apps when it comes to the basic needs of a serious smartphone user. I don't really see whats wrong with symbian^3 or android os iphone they are all great and offers the important smartphone features in their own style,so it up to the user to choose a device that suits him best. Bashing and trolling will not convert a user to go out and use another os when it comes to oses nothing feels better than using an os that you are familiar with and feel at home while using it.

Yeah, how many years have iPhone OS existed in the market and how long time have Android exixted in the market?.

If Android grows as fast as it does now, it will already go over iPhone OS after just 5-6 months from now lol.
