Can't believe i'm seeing the mi5 running things with the top dogs even though it costs less than half the price of the others. Impressive i must say.

To GSM Arena authors: Please don't forget to also test the battery life of the SD820 version. There seem to be huge differences compared to the Exynos.

getting all 4 cores to 2.6GHz will overheat the soc. only 2 core able to boost to 2.6 GHz but when all big cores pushed to the limit, it'll only reached 2.3 GHz max.
Kinda like Intel turbo boost technology. I have good old i5 2500 3.3GHz. when only 1 core is used it able to boost up to 3.7GHz. when all core needed, it only able to reached 3.4 GHz on all cores.

What matters is Hz / W. Anyone can crank up the Hz (Hertz). What matters is at what expense - the W (Watts).

the exynos 8890 is downclocked to match the SD820, you can clearly see that on the M1 cores.. on high demand the M1 cores only have boost clock on 2 of the 4 cores 2x 2,3ghz 2x 2,6ghz instead of all 4 M1 cores @2,6ghz..early benchmarks where released that the 8890 had 7500 multi and 2300+ single. SD820 is still behind, also notice that Adreno 530 have a boostclock for a short amount of time that helps it in benchmarks(thats why it scores higher in benchmarks but in on-screen tests it`s almost equall)..the Mali T880mp12 does not have this from what iv been told.

In other words, both the Exynos and SD820 are pretty much similar in real world performance. The main differences in layman's terms would be:

                        - SD version will have more custom ROMs available (or perhaps more quickly)
                        - Exynos version comes with Wolfson DAC for awesome audio.
                        - I'm not 100% sure, but I think I read somewhere that the Exynos version has better RAM Management. I can't compare myself since I have the Exynos version which works perfectly fine.

AnonD-507177, 17 Mar 2016LOL Z5 outperforms S7 in graphic onscreen bench...this just... moreI have to be honest, I agree with you, at least as far as you saying full HD should be the max for smartphone screens

Off screen test results are not what matters, it's the onscreen frame rate that represents the quality of the experience that's is offered to the user.

QHD resolutions halving that frame rate is to me, not a good compromise, I am an S7 user, and though the screen is very pleasing to look at, I would still much rather they had stayed at 1080p, thus boosting battery and frame rate performance.

Outside of the coming onset of VR, I never did see the point of higher than 1080p resolutions on smartphone screens.

And 4K has no business on a smartphone screen, and that will be the case for another few years yet.

I think what we can take from this article is that no matter which version you are getting, performance should not be an issue.

Also, It appears Qualcomm can finally start putting the 810 fiasco behind them, as the 820 appears to live up to expectations.
