Hmm... HTC desire has also those features to get android 3! Would like to have it but i still don't have 2.2 so i think that htc desire will not get those updates :( But i still hope for it! Would be nice to have!

guys chill...updates for froyo 2.2 will keep coming...they r not ditching it..actually now they are making android OS for user friendly for tablets....they want android OS to be a complete OS like windows..thts why dere r coming with a brand new interface so companies won't hav to use their own UI....juss wait for the official announcement...i guess with froyo android OS for smartphones is today one of the most powerful OS presently in the market..so celebrate dis....:)

personally I always think that a handset maximum size is 55x115x17 mm, more than that is to bulky...
so minimum req for the screen size doesn't make sense for me..

Steve, 01 Jul 2010I gotta agree that ditching Android on small and low/mid ra... morei dont think you're understanding, the article is saying that the android out now will remain. just 3.0 will be for more expensive devices. just like the full benifit of iOS 4 is on the iPhone 4. They're not ditching. Android will most likely get updates just like 2.1 update1. What will happen is that this android 3.0 will be released and manufacturers will make their phones to meet the specs and the phones they dont will either use the old os or they will go with a different one. The requirements are necessary as newer phones are like computers and just like them they need minimum requirements. You cant put windows 7 on an 5 year old computer unless you have the min. hardware thats just how it works.

Androids are the ONLY phones that even with 1Ghz CPU
and 512Mb Ram , still have laggy interface... How the hell
is that possible...Google must fix that crap with 3rd version.
It's better to be more stable and user friendly than have 3rd party
crappy interface on it.

iii, 01 Jul 2010@racerz,Samsung galaxy S is much better then HTC Nexus One.... morenope...ur wrong..Galaxy S doesnt hve a camera flash,and isnt a complete phone to me,thats how i rate and thATa my own opinion.ang how Galaxy S is better than EVO? 4.3 sceen 8Meg cam with flash.and 4G?.?even super amoled is quit not big difference.

Minimum HW requirements for Android devices... at last! I've seen and used many Android devices, lately I came across several cheap smartphones, with capacitive touchscreens, cheap components, that would have eventually hurt Andoird's reputation.
However, I still don't understand why some older requirements have not been followed by some manufacturers. I'm missing the search key on the Galaxy S and Galaxy 3. Has Google dropped this requirement out?

I gotta agree that ditching Android on small and low/mid range handsets would be a disaster move, both for consumers and for Google. They're basically limiting their market share - I completely disagree that 'bigger' handsets are the future... the fact is, mobile phones were made to be mobile... popularity of X10 mini amongst others has proved this. 4"+ phones are never going to be in the majority, as it just reaches a point where consumers would for the same price rather buy a tablet/netbook and have a seperate small phone. If Google release a second OS for smaller phones, that would be the only possible way around this. Lets see what happens...

I think it's a good idea. That way they can have more control over the user experience and all phones should work as the should and would get updated at the same time. The reason all other phones besides the Nexus One are late in updating is because of the custom UI used by the manufactures. I'm not saying custom UI are bad thing because I actually like them but I would rather prefer an on time update over custom UI
Plus all this is just a rumor and not all details are known. I'm sure they will implement it in a logical way then just to "ditch" the phones which don't meet the hardware specs. I think the best solution would be to give a deadline to the various manufactures with their custom UIs to roll out the future updates, like a month at most. But that would be hard to do since I can't think of any punishment for not meeting the deadline.
Hopefully they will find away to have 3.0 an still have the custom UIs

Especially Samsung. They won't be wasting their time building UIs which eventually turns out to be total crap, take an example of Pantheon Home in Galaxy Spica :-j
