01 July, 2010
With Froyo barely out the door, attention is turning to the next Android version - 3.0 Gingerbread. It will impose minimum hardware requirements, the UI is getting overhauled and Android is splitting into two...

Before reading anything else on this thread... My very first question !

Is Galaxy S capable enough to enjoy Gingerbread 3.0 in future? There are different opinions about total RAM capacity for Galaxy S, but no opinion seems to be convincing enough.

I'm planning to upgrade to Galaxy S from my Galaxy Spica but I do not want to get stuck on 2.2, if Galaxy S not gonna get atleast 3.0 in the future.

Opinions are welcome please...

Honestly, is there really a point for me to keep upgrading my nexus one when they keep announcing stupid azz firmware upgrades every other week. It makes me want to go back to my iPhone really bad, but I honestly am tired of apple too....and android is more tolerable. But this is ridiculous.

When the hell is Android music player getting equalizer update??! Don't say that Android does not support equalizer cause Samsung Galaxy S has a very nice anc extensive sound manager with equalizer built into the music player.

In so many ways a bad move.
                          minimum of 3.5 inch displays?
Huh???? Wildfire, X10 mini. Great pocketfriendly devices for the masses. And girls tend to prefer smaller phones than 3.5"
                          That really makes no sense.
And the hardware specs... well a phone like that will not be cheap for quite some time. Not all can afford those devices.
If you want market shares, you should try to reach as many categories of phones as possible!

A split in two might be a very good thing.
But then they need to continue to support both. And then 3.0 is a really bad name. That means there can only be 7 more major updates for the 2.x branch.
They should come up with some new names, to make a distinct difference between the Two. At this point the Android brand is weak enough to be replaced with something new, without hurting the sales.

But clearly they cant think that android 2.2 will be enough for ever... The devices in the future with screens smaller than 3.5" cant survive with an abadonned platform.
And google really need devices like that.

Sure, personaly i would have no problem fitting 3.5" in my pocket. Or holding it in my hand. Reaching the whole screen. And I can afford devices with the high specs.
But on the other hand, even I think the X10 minis are super cool. Im even considering getting one of them, to use as my main phone. It covers all the mobile needs you will have if you also have a tablet, or netbook, or netvertible, or....
And there are a lot of people that think 3.5" simply is to big. And sometimes, it really is to big for them to use it with one hand. And its not always about the money either.

Lets just hope this rumor is untrue.
And that either Google in the future will support two branches of what we today know as Android.
Or that those minimum specs are false.

                            In one way positiv.
Now there are a lot of current phones that dont meet the requierements for this.
So the manufactor knows, if they only bring it to 2.2, they are as up to date as they can ever get.

What the hell are all you people talking about? You are angry because Google keeps updating the os and making it better? since when is this a bad thing ?LOL. It`s NOT googles fault that the manufacturers dont implement froyo to theyr phones, or they bring the updates very late.
Talking about the Htc Legen buyers for example, well, you ALWAYS buy a phone for the features and os it currently has. You don`t buy a phone if you don`t think it`s worthy of your money with it`s current os, apps ... You don`t buy it for the main reason that maybe in 6 months you will have froyo too. You always pay for the phone`s Present features.
So google keeps improving Android very fast. Android 2.1 and 2.2 are already great and fast . So i really don`t see any probplem here. You should be happy that they spend so much time and money for Android.
So stop bitching and buy yourself an Iphone if you like theyr company`s policy better ("improving" the os with little baby steps 1 year at a time - 2010 wallpapers, 2011 custom sms ringtones? ..) .

Its like WIndows Mobile 7.. no originality.

common, make an android 3.0 with possibility of 3rd party UI, dont change anything just make it faster and more useful!!!!!!!!!!!
