Anonymous, 02 Jul 2010you forgot how many models BB and Nokia have and how many t... moreI think they're doing OK, but they should have done some better testing on this model, maybe hire some advanced engineers like Nokia and RIM does. Nokia and RIM phones may have their flaws, I had the E71, and it did have some reception problems, but most of their phones were stellar in terms of call quality and reception.
AnandTech did a review of the signal quality of the iPhone 4 against the 3Gs and the Nexus One, and the 3Gs had better reception. They should have kept that antenna design that they had in the 3Gs into the new model, sometimes form over function is not a good thing.

And just for the record, I like the iPhone too, and I believe it is a very contributing factor to the progression of smartphones. I give a thumbs up to it. But Apple messed up by denying these claims. They refuse to discount bumpers, they want to alter the signal bars so it doesn't show low bars, and there's no software fix in the world that can fix a hardware issue. End of story.

You can talk about 1.7 million sold and how they sell more than Nokia, Moto, RIM and others until the cows come home but at the end of the day this still remains:

How on Earth could an erroneous signal indicator be the reason for dropped calls/reduced data rates? And what is that magical firmware that will bend the laws of physics and improve the iPhone 4 reception when you are holding it… you know… the way you've been holding every other phone you've owned so far? To defend Apple to this point is just insane, and it truly shows what type of person you are.

i have just heard from APPLE, a reliable source, that they will release, ESPECIALY FOR IPHONE 4, a 6 foot (apx 2metre) external antenna that you can connect to your iphone 4 to get full signal. This will be made ultra-portable through a backpack system that will be provided in the retail package. (Batteries NOT included!)

Iphone made a change for cell phones. It is true because they invented the first toy that can be used to make phone calls.
Palm was the first to offer touch screen phones. RIM was the leader in smartphones. Apple is the leader in toys. WAKE UP. LOL

It is true that iPhone revolutionize mobile phone culture mainly by their UI , but that's NOT an excuse for this design error and on the top of it by NOT accepting the hardware error they r diggin their own grave...

But, according to Eldar Murtazin, they still suffer from the lack of tens of years of experience in phone building (counter THIS! haha). More specifically: they never actually held the iPhone in bare hands (safety reasons) while testing the signal reception. Anything that prevents you from using capacitive screen should also prevent you from losing signal. For example: you can paint the metallic parts of the iPhone (or the parts that also work as antenna) with an electricity-resistant paint, or use a bumper, and it should fix the non-existent problem of "poor signal" while holding it in a bad way.
I wonder if Apple postponed the white iPhone to fix this issue - it takes time to apply paint (or other material) to all iPhones produced. I'll be surprised if they actually fix this problem without asking more $$$ from their customers.

WAY OVER TOO PROUD so they are SUPER CONFIDENT to announce this newly iphone 4. nj of corz too proud to not notice the most important part of a cell phone. wats the difference between iphone which has no signal with an ipod touch?

At&t sucks with their voice signals, period. That's an issue even before the iphone was born. The smartphone category is what it is now all because of the iphone, and please don't tell me it's LG Prada.

As a iphone 3gs owner I can tell u that I was very very much excited about iPhone4 but the attitude of Jobs is letting me down. I don't know why he is still beating around the bush. He should accepted the design error in the first place. Software patch will do nothing...

Nothing beats the BEAST Nokia E90
Full wide screen - Video Call and full keyboard like you are using your computer where as with E71 and comparable phones like RIM or other touch phones you have to press a button to get the numpad if you are typing an email.
Yes it is a little bit old now compared to other phones in the market but it has been proven over the years that Nokia is the leader in Cell Phones Technology.
