Nokia 3250 and SE W810 released

24 March, 2006
Two rival phones have hit the market almost at the same time. Sony Ericsson W810 and Nokia 3250 are considered to fight for the same market share. The two devices are quite similar in functions...

No matter how I try to convince myself. Nokia phones are still lame. I saw N70 screen resolution and the colors are dull, unsatisfactory and the pixels are so large compared to Sony K750i which produce only quality very sharp and vivid colors. Nokia phones have "larger screens but poor resolution." Don't be be mislead by these uninformed Nokia fanatics. This is the hard truth.

A smartphone is so huge difference over ordinary phone that I would go for Nokia. Its like trying to compare PC and calculator.
Most ppl here don't realise the difference. If you want to have better phone than 3250 and from SE buy yourself W950. Only this model beats Nokia. Or even better buy P990 for the camera also.
Now I have Nokia N70 and I think its the best phone so far. Windows arent stable and old SE P series arent so great anymore.

tech speaking nokia have more advances tech. in the phones. the n90 screen, Carl Zeiss+autofocus(the best macro pic on a phone ever), TV! (n92), HD (N91 which is the best music phone right now), Wifi not only b also g profile. just they have not put all those tech in a max level on a single handset yet, still the n80 its PRETTY CLOSE also boasting a DualMode WCDMA and QUADBAND GSM no manufacturer have done that yet.
Still sony ericsson ,their technologics are not the max for today (QVGA Screens, No optical zoom, only quadband and not being able to use EDGE and WCDMA in the same phone) but they are above average and some really qualitative. Sony ericsson is not bringing anything new to the market lately just using their mother company brands to sell more.
people don't buy nokia because their fashion line, they do because nokia phones are durable and thats a fact some people are still using nokia TDMA phones. long ago discountinued. and working as new.

Going to my message earlier on about the fuctionality of a phone using the mem card. Now some of you may not remeber but the German geeks at SIEMENS long thought of using the mem card for the phones system tasks some 5 years ago with this model http://www.gsmarena.com/siemens_sl45i-265.php which i use to use and literally store all messages, voice recordings, infinate call records and be able to set memory card songs as ring tones bloody 5 years ago,so yes i do have alot of hate in me towards these young Scandinavian and other MIT graduates or from wherever in Motorolaand geegks who can`t still bloody get a simple task and firmware function right
in the year 2006 and piss us consumers off with their lacking practical firmware writing skills and poor sense of consumer needs.

avinash: Sony has its strategy and Nokia has its strategy. For years, Nokia's phones are stylish and very fun to use. They're priced reasonably and come out with different styles every quarter. Thus, young people tend to associate Nokia with trendy and fashionable.

Sony on the other hand has a history of releasing only a few mid to high priced cell phones with a eye on the screen and sound quality and photo. Plus, the Sony brand name has a history of being overpriced. Vaio, Sony monitors, DSC digital cameras? They're nice, but cost more than their competitors who have similar specs.

So I think both companies target different buyers. I've been a Motorola enthusist for many years and also have bought three Nokias. I've also bought Sony Ericsson w810 recently. I think there are advantages and disadvantages to all three but now think that my Motorola enthusiam is over. I now think Motorola is by far the worst of the three in terms of recent phones released.

Im sorry but the w800 came out more than a year ago with a 2mp nice camera and mem duo up to 2gb,imagine after more than a year NOKIA comes up with these phones only now with a 2mp cam that weigh much more than a w800 cost more and only up to 1gb memory. You know what they are slightly behind and should go back to the drawing board.

This phone at the moment is the cheapest, thinnest, bluetooth, memory card supported, best looking phone in the world period. You can buy this for 230USD with accessories shipped to your door.Nokia 3250 and SE W810 is a wripp off and way too heavy and thick for MP3 phones.I use a SLVR with a 1gb card, considering its slightly thicker and and taller than an IPOD NANO 1gb and when compared with the shoe like phones of NOKIA and Ericsson. It may not have a nice menu like them but hey do u want to pay an extra 200usd just for the menu. One thing i hate Motorola for is that why the hell didn`t and don`t they allow the bloody songs on the memory card to be used as ring tones and allow the mem card to store infinita number of messages and call records.Mind you thats lacking in all companies. What on earth do we buy the mem card for, obviously not for only MP3`s.Manufacturers should start adjusting the firmwares so that the phone is capable of using the bloody mem card for most internal functions of the system including Java games and make standard 3.5 mm stereo earphones jack for all models instead of having to bloody buy all these adapters, wires etc that make life difficult, add further unneccessary weight and cause a general newsance to the user.

Hi guys, Nokia has business strategy, which never fails most of time. Becoz majority of people don't read or aware of Mobile reviews. So they buy nokia and proudly shows them to others. Where as intelligent people will go through websites for mobile comparisons, so they get SE better than nokia. So the conclusion is SE is mostly intelligent or thinking peoples choice who wants best for less .

Before, we were a fan of Nokia, so everybody owned a Nokia. But then all our engtertainment appliances are made by Sony, so when we heard two years ago about SEP900 we bought a unit, and eversince then, we were already locked to sony ericsson. However, there is no problem with Nokia because they have also nice units with nice performance, but then, we found out that SE capability and technology is better and far more more advanced.

If Sony Ericsson was a car. It would be a Jaguar. What would a Nokia be? Don't tell me its a Ferrari? Because if you do, it would be one of the greatest lies in the history of mobile phones!

you can't compare a smartphone with a normal phone. it a total lost to a normal phone in funtionality!! a smartphone can be installed tons of third party software (like 3d games, office viewers, multimedia players etc) while the simple phones are limited what the manuf. can pull in.
and SE is not more stable i seen SE going white screen then turning off. having problems with big speakers, camera lacking of contrast and bad macro and full of noise in "poor" lighting and battery only lasting for 2 days. not to mention SE is getting weak at the screens departament and nokia is getting better and better.

Anything with moving parts is going to wear down at some point. Read the mobile- review.com review of the 3250 . IMHO the sony ericsson is far more stable and better than symbian 6 .

                            Well Andy
I am referring the new comparison which GSMarena made.
All along I felt GSMarean was trying do damage control exercise for N90. Well Andy I was using Nokia all along. I had to switch to SE 'cause poor support after sales. As a matter of fact I had to run pillar to post to get my Nokia 6230 software upgraded.
Well as a Photography enthusiast i found SE far superior. I own 750i and shot 150 pictures of a marriage . All brilliant !. Very true colours and bright too

nokia 3250 has better functionality, so it is my choise! I've tried the w810 and its menu, UI, sound are absolutely the same as my old k700 has.

IMO 3250 and w810 have more or less comparable sound and camera quality.
So please don't claim anything (stupid fanboys!) before trying by yourselves!
For me 3250 is overall better fone due symbian and bigger screen and nicer design, but w810 is very good too!

Let's say Nokia phones can be better in small details like "ergonomic keypad" almost as the same application of the word "ergonomic" to "car seats," Big deal! This is the reason why they missed to see what's more IMPORTANT; camera, mp3 player, form factor, functionality, etc.

I received the W810i two days ago. I had a k750i previously and switched it for a nokia 6280 around the end of february.

Unfortunately, any claim made that the w810i is almost a whole new model is really unfounded. The phone was great, excellent size, but I just felt like I had paid double for the exact same phone I had before.

Yes the screen was brighter, but after using the nokia 6280 the w810i screen just seemed very poor.

The new spacing and creation of the keys was another disappointment. They were a bit too stiff and made a fairly loud click when you pressed them, and created an extremely loud bit of noise if trying to text while in a quiet area such as school.

I never use my phone as an mp3 player because of the ridiculous amount of cords they try to connect before you can even get the headphones in the ear. Surely if there was a standard headphone jack then the phone would be a true walkman, rather than having a bulky adapter.

Picture quality IMO wasn't even much better than the nokia is doing for me now, and the video playback and recording capabilites are downright horrendous.

If you are taking pictures of things from a very close distance, then the w810i was performing much better for me. If standing a solid couple of feet away and imaging something large such as people, I really did not see any faults with the pic quality.

Don't get me wrong though, I love Sony Ericsson more than Nokia and feel like the build quality and ability to update your firmware from home is great. However the w810i really is too late to be considered the next greatest from SE, especially with the standard now set for me by the Nokia 6280.

I will be holding onto this nokia until the new k800/790 series come out.

All I'll say is I work for one of the mobile networks and the Sony Ericsson range and far and away the most comprehensive on the market. The number of calls we get about faulty nokias or people that just don't like them is atrocious considering their reputation for reliability. My upgrade is due in five weeks and I'm definitely going for the W810i, it's pure class and the best spec phone out there at the moment in my humble opinion.

All of SE fans are deaf i guess. If u re saying that "walkman" branding is not an advertisement only, why do other devices from nokia, samsung, moto have better sound? Agree about i300, n91, 3250, Rokr e2.
I'm not saying walkman sound is bad, no, it is good, bot not the best. "Walkman" is not an equivalent to "quality".
