Apple gets all defensive, free iPhone 4 cases for everyone

16 July, 2010
Apple just finished off its press conference dedicated on the iPhone 4 reception issues leaving us quite puzzled, to say the least. At one point Steve Jobs was saying that every phone has a weak spot, then he...

bricked, 17 Jul 2010http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=nokia+deathgrip... moreYou know that what Apple shows there is not what the real problem here is. There are about 16500 iPhone 4 users that have a serious problem with their iPhone 4's.

This problem that iPhone 4 have for those users is not possible to do by any other mobile phones in the world.

Wow, i mean wow, Apple is showing something that is logical with all phones today just to get away from what the thing really is about.

And the problem is ONLY about those 0.55% with iPhone 4 users that have those antenna problems (death grip problem by using your thumb on one little point on the phone that makes the phone to lose all connection).

It's not about that every phones have some signal drops when you cover over the phone with something.

Apple is just talking away from the real problem here.

    AppleCare data = 0.55%
    ATT return rates = 1/3 of 3GS
    Drop calls = < 1 more per 100 calls
    Incorrect signal bar formulas

What with all these figures!!! They are all derived by you! We don't trust internal statistics. Let independant parties investigate. Or at least get legal authority to verify your statistics before release to public!!!

Why attact RIM, HTC, Samsung, Android, Windows Mobile??? Why not all smartphones in this whole planet? What about Palm? Is it because it's not a treat to you anymore? Why not dragging Nokia and Symbian as well? All your statements are so UNPROFESSIONAL in business ethics!!!

Free case...full refund...whay you need to persuade existing customers with these "bribes"...? It's the hardware failure...stop manufacturing it... immediately release another model to kill iPhone 4 disaster!!!

Now it's proven that the Apple CEO is a big loser and lier. Those numbers that coming out from his mouth, attacking other companies and "bribing" customers are so lame... You should stay at home with Bill Gates... Let the new CEO defend you and your income...

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2010actually I do think that apple should replace all the phone... moreProblem is there are a lot of people not experiencing any problems with the signal, So why would apple replace all phones? Everybody has got a 30 day period in which to decide whether to keep it or return for an exchange or a refund and if you opt for an exchange you get a further 30 days to decide whether to keep or return, where's is the problem with this option?
Personally I wished there were more people experiencing problems to enable a recall coz then I would have the apple recall to mount a petition against Nokia and the N97 which in my view was worse than the Iphone 4 but just coz it's not an Iphone the media payed no attention to it, thankfully Nokia has been hurt in a small way by it so in a way we got some revenge. My N97 is now collecting dust and is being used as a book stop on the shelf. Somebody should have been prosecuted for that N97 fiasco.
There simply isn't enough people experiencing this particular problem to trigger a recall unfortunately even consumer report though not recommending can 't not really fault the phone all tey have suggested is that at least Apple should provide these bumpers for free. Believe me if it was a major issue people a lot more would have complained.

[deleted post]that is the whole point... What about us who trusted that we are going to receive the value of what we paid for... I'm not buying the idea of giving away free cases, it just makes the issue darker... Mr jobs was contradicting every single thing he said when the reception issue arised "you're holding it the wrong way" what do you take us for? .55% of the idiots! It's like covering up mistakes and arrogantly treating your consumers who stood by you since day one... I'm not happy with how apple approached these issues... And in the conference, he was flashing the iphone4 in his hand in every "wrong way" he indoctrinised to show that there were no reception problems... Contradicting... Recall the iphone4, redesign what must be redesigned, admit the flaw own up to it, apologise to the consumers (apple won't be where it is now without us)... Still worried of the cost? Well don't! Consumer satisfaction is foremost in business not the money you'll get... Do whatever it takes to solve this... To other iphone people out there, don't close your eyes to the problem... It is for our good... Mind not the people who are just passing through and commenting about this issue, they have the right to do so... They might have helped a bit... To those who are just passing through, don't be too harsh... Thank you...

I really like S.Jobs and Apple, really.

                      S. Jobs and Apple are to me just one entity. So I will refer them as "it".

IT says the phone has REALLY no problem. So please continue to buy them. But wait, IT has realized that there is an antenna design flaw, but IT is not a real problem really because:

                      1) ITS signal algorythm has been wrong since day one (since the first *phone has been out)

                      2) There is no signal algorythm standard. So IT is sort of blaming the FCC.

                      3) at&t network problem = your only choice problem.

                      4) ALL OTHER PHONES have the same design flaw, but it still is not a problem.

                      5) And those that are having trouble with the *phone4 antena are just nothing/"minor".

So you are just nothing but 0.5% of our trouble (and there is still nothing wrong with the *phone4 BTW), but IT will offer every *iphone4 user a case to remedy the antenna issue (i.e. not a problem).

In short, please continue to buy Apple products.

I also really like the medias who favor their love and dedication to Apple products. They just like to put down and play with words to label *phone4 product as a good product, despite having all the flaws. Those authors simply show how objective they are. So you just have to trust them, really!

why should you have to be forced to use a cover for your phone?

shouldn't you be able to buy a phone, have it work out of the box without having to resort to another piece of plastic to ensure proper function?

what happened to quality assurance? what happened to testing?

they pumped this phone out with no consideration for the people spending their hard-earned cash on this phone. this is not small issue, the phone feature does not work and is unreliable....and this is a phone right?

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2010This is strange... 1. The Iphone 4's front and back are ... moreA noteworthy point,Thanks for reminding us,actually it's not a rubber case,it's a rubber band, and i think Apple put more effort in fashion point instead of function,it's good to have a good design for a phone, but function is what truly matters,i vote for function rather than fashion,as long as the design isn't that ugly like nokia 7600.

Back to the surface problem, probably screen protector can handle it,yet that means a minus for iPhone 4,as the older iPhone proved to be scratch resistant--i used no protector for my 8 month iPhone 3Gs,use it as a hardcore even abusive sometimes, but there's not even a single scratch on the screen,i wonder if iPhone 4 could stand like that.

The solution?look for a displayed iPhone 4 at the Apple official store, try to scratch it with a paper clip and of course you should act as ninja while you do that, stealth and deadly.

Unless Only you are the user of iphone 3g or 3gs before so you think the iphone 4 is a g0od phone..

Only the people who not really know about handphone trend will think that iphone 4 is such likes high tec h product..In fact..it is NOT but so..so..so outdated when compared with other branded handphone likes NOKIA,HTC,SAMSUNG,SONY ERICSSON..etc

Everything basic will not found in iphone 4..

iphone now is not juz onl y software functio n outdated..but hardware..thats why most of people said icrap is totally lik3 s TOY..lol

                                  This is strange...

                                  1. The Iphone 4's front and back are quite scratchable compated to the stainless steel band around the phone....

                                  2. For the first time Apple introduces their own rubber casing..

                                  3. This case only covers this tough band around the phone and not the scratch-able screen and back...

                                  4. Why is this?? Looking at the above fact, do you really think apple didn't know about their antenna issue?

My opinions for iPhone 4 :

                                    1)"Death Grip" :
It's the main concern and a complicated one since i haven't tried one myself,it sure is menacing problem though it also might be solved with bumper and software update, better wait for the real solution--if there's any..

                                    2) Battery problem :
Yup,i believe battery life won't be better than 3Gs,even with bigger battery that retina display consume more power, plus with that antennae issue, the best it will be the same life time as 3Gs did.

                                    3) yellowish screen :
This won't be too much problem, the latest iPhone 4 doesn't have that kind of problem.

                                    4) Camera & video :
The best around in the smartphone class,no doubt about it.

                                    5) Multitasking :
Not the real one,but it's not that bad either,at least for me.

                                    Conclusion :

iPhone 4 is still my 3Gs successor, unless there's an android phone that could match Apple's App.store quality and has that snappy UI as iPhone with true multi touch capability,a phone that could detect five fingers simultaneously on screen, that's the true multi touch means besides the pinch zooming,so far only iPhone could do that.

But no matter what this is getting interesting for me,as there'll be more choice of good smartphones.

Shouldn’t we all start questioning Apple for having to create a “genuine” rubber cover for the first time ever and was announced right before the launch of Iphone 4? Think about it for a sec, the rubber bumper can be considered useless for not being able to protect the front or the back part of the phone itself… Therefore i am assuming that the only reason this bumper is created in the first place by Apple is for the fact that the rubber stops our skin from rubbing and touching the antennas.

When we thought about this deeply and more carefully, it can be quite controversial. For Apple to create such add-on for the phone with no proper use other than a “cute genuine accessory” to add a “dash of style” to the phone’s look and feel, it could really spins your mind up for a bit…

There’s always something behind the shadows of Apple not wanting to man up and costing us consumers to suffer. There has to be a connection between this incident and the Iphone 4 prototype that was leaked weeks before the actual release. Apple would have known about this antenna problem beforehand, at the same time panicked due to the leak, and took a huge risk at launching the iphone 4 ASAP with the bumper before the other competitors somehow steals Apple’s “brilliant ideas” that would somehow revolutionize the world again. These factors would then resulted in an inadequate or ignored UAT testing conducted by the team within a very limited timeframe.

This approach would definitely works for 70% of the iphone users for not having the proper knowledge of how mobile phones should work or how they don’t mind being manipulated by Apple’s heart touching campaigns, but its still unacceptable for Apple for not handling it the right way but to blame the consumers for using the phone in an incorrect way. Devices should be invented to help the consumers not the other way around. =)

Just a penny for your thoughts.
