Apple gets all defensive, free iPhone 4 cases for everyone

16 July, 2010
Apple just finished off its press conference dedicated on the iPhone 4 reception issues leaving us quite puzzled, to say the least. At one point Steve Jobs was saying that every phone has a weak spot, then he...

Apple has lost all his reputation and customer loyalty in this iphone 4....dragging the time and finally give a solution for the problem with a very arrogant modal in their press conference....i think the best way to do is to recall the iphone 4 that were sold to stop the problem from spreading....it may cost alot of money but it is the best for a brighter future.....

At least Apple held a press conference for the iPhone 4 issues, unlike how Nokia handles her N97 initial issues, we didnt even get a cover from Nokia.

suggestion: if covering that gap with your hand interrupts cell signal then apple should consider relocating that gap to the bottom of the phone near the speaker... similar to the gap at the top near the mic jack.

Steve Jobs at it's conference was comparing his iphone4 with old Nokia 8810 lol....hahahaaa!
That's the way he got his feelings, that's the way he expresses his phones really.

amen, hey guys its an easy fix, if you don't like it don't buy it. don't get angry buy something else thats trying to catch up with the iphone. makes you wonder why so many business and speaker manufacturers are catering for the iphone lol and not nokia, or samsung or htc or whatever. it only took iphone to come along and stir up the mobile market and make the other play catch up. I was waiting for iphone to release 1ghz and few other spec and now they have i am happy.

Apple's explanation that signal attenuation is common among smartphones is true!

I currently use a Nokia E71 smartphone, and every time I hold it in my left hand cradling the bottom of the phone, I lose all 5 signal bars!!! It is not so obvious in areas where the network is stronger, but at my apartment, it happens all the time.

I read that all recent phones are required by the FCC to locate the antennas at the bottom of the phone, and when the hand covers the antenna area, the signal gets attenuated...

At least, Apple have admitted that there is a problem, unlike their competitors (check YouTube for videos of other handsets which lose their signal in exactly the same way). Let's not crucify someone who is telling the truth...

This was a nice article to read, especially at 7:30am. It's nice of them to give away free cases, as well as actually fix the problem (i hope) but now there's the proximity thing. I'm wondering if after they fix these problems if there'll be something new to harass users.

I think and feel that Steve Jobs is the best marketing individual in this planet .... you can check his antenna press conference on 16th July 2010 in Apple site ...

1st, he asked the users not to grip the phone in such a way ....

2nd, he tried to change physics by SW update
I guess if there will be no coverage, but using updated SW -> it shows good signal coverage. I guess it would make Apples relationship worst with AT&T, as end customer will point the finger to AT&T then. And the idea was skipped.

3rd, today in the press conference he was proving that every Smartphones have weak spot, like iphone 4 ...

http://www.apple.com/antenna/ ..... comparing with Blackberry Bold 9700, HTC .. and Samsung smartphone ... anyway none of the smartphones (3 NOKIA models, 4 Blackberry models, One Samsung) in my home have got the trouble in a way what was showed in the video.

                                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKIcaejkpD4 .... iphone antenna song … it’s cool

4th, today he provided a solution to use a bumper (or casing) ... it makes more sense now.

That’s for sure; he will not mention that the problem is related with the aggressive industrial design for such a complicated wireless device (with 7 or 8 radio) -> using phone outer case or structure metal as antenna without any non-conductive material coating. iphone 4 antenna simply changes its physical length when gripping on the weak spot as human body is not like insulator. Therefore antenna has got different resonance frequency than what it should get. This is very simple

And for this, Apple doesn’t need 18 antenna scientists/engineers with PhD degree and 100 million worth of antenna chambers.

The data or statistics what he provided today -> those sound nice, but not close to reality! He is simply making us fool ...
