If this case (or bumper) is supposed to make the antenna problem less pronounced, they should show a video of the bars dropping to nothing before the case, and then show the bars not dropping as much with the case. Right now, they show the bars dropping, but they do not show how much of an improvement you get after putting on the case. At least, if they do show the case improves reception, the customers can be sure that the case actually helps.

You got it all wrong, there's less bars now with new update, so what i notided it shows a lot better the real situation now

I sometimes wonder what has happen to people common sense, whoever state a fact about the Antena issue of this phone they will accuse of iphone haters, I am not a hate, I am totally impartial quite like apple infact, but I have a brain too,why on earth I need to but a bumper on a brand new phone to make it function correctly,! is that not say to you something fundamentally wrong if this is even suggested? do I buy this phone,? NO never, would some other people buy it? YES they will , would they have a proper signal in a poor covered area? most likely they wouldn't , its going to be lots of drop calls, the most basic use of the phone is making a phone call and as a left handed I will stay miles and miles away from this phone. good luck happy owner and happy phone calls, if you get a signal of course.

Frist!, 16 Jul 2010Frist! Furst! Foist! As for the US tech blogs, sorry, bu... moreIm sorry I was eagerly anticipating the N8, and I finally got to use one the other day and was utterly dissapointed, new software is far too complicated and the responsiveness of the touch screen is atrocious for this day and age. The Samsung Acton for 79e has a better touch responsiveness. It is very heavy to hold but it does look nice and has a nice design. As a result I got the Samsung Galaxy S and its fantastic .... Android is the way forward. Symbian is dead

I think the most apparent question here is...does the update show the ACTUAL REAL bars/signal being received by the antenna? or is it just a bluff to show that there are lots of bars but in reality there aren't any or less than usual...
giving out cases to resolve the hardware issue is another give-away about the concern NOT BEING RESOLVED AT ALL. I mean, just think about it...they would send out an update to fix the hardware issue, but then again would send out free cases to ALL iPH4 users? BTW, is it worldwide? hahaha is this to hide away the fact that the software update will not completely rectify that problem????
And in regards to the conference, I think it's obvious that they are now wanting us to realize that other phone manufacturers DO send out faulty phones as well...WELL, is it something new? Everybody already knows, worldwide, that those manufacturers do send out faulty units. But they learn from their mistakes, RECTIFY THE PROBLEM, and not PUT THE BLAME ON OTHERS! unlike what apple is currently doing...
I'm sure everybody of you here already heard about that Samsung OmniaHD user who wrote a letter for samsung and aired out his concern. Almost all Samsung users actually sided with that guy...SAMSUNG never denied nor blamed other manufacturers about the problem, but they took it to themselves and released a proper fix for the issue.
That's what Apple should do to their customers. Not hide the fact that these freebies would really do anything to correct the problem the software update they claim would fix.
Probably, what Apple should do to regain their reputation...is to re-design the iPH4 entirely, ask for a ReCall worldwide, and Replace those faulty units.
I'm not an iPhone fanatic, and i respect what these huge companies do for the customers. But to actually take people as fools? Blame it on others? well that's a whole lot of a different story...Apple, better replace Steve Jobs as he's actually not doing his job right anymore.

I wonder what is the pros of an external antenna of a phone to the point that Apple blatantly defends it.
Hiding the antenna, insulating it inside the phone, does it have any cons? If it does not, why does Apple want to choose an awkward external antenna design?

I really don't know what all the fuss is about. I got an Iphone4 and have had no problems what so ever. Still think the 3GS shape is nicer but it is quite simply the best pone on the market.

when the case is on, the antenna is internal again and so is the signal max strength decreased. the case makes it bulkier so the slimness is also gone. i'm happy i didn't buy this failure.

Apple, I think I'll skip this installment of the iPhone. Four is just an unlucky number? Or is it I just don't buy products with a major design flaw. So if I go into a poor single area and I can't touch my phone or I'll get no reception? Right, unless I have a case on.
Stevie, I think you really hurt the Brand! Not all of us are brainwashed fanboys. I think a large portion of people such as myself select your products because, "they just work". Your words Stevie. BTW, Blackberry ios6, Windows phone7 and Android3 are coming this fall. Xander.

I seriously think that iPhone 4 will be to Apple what Windows Vista was to Microsoft. How many agree to that?
BTW, I have the Samsung Omnia II and absolutely love the gadget!
