I give Jobs credit for admitting Apple's fault. BUT to point fingers at other mobile phone manufacturers is childish. Yes no cell phone is perfect, BUT for Jobs to assume all phones use the same or very similar antenna design is ignorant. As the writer said "It was Apple itself who decided to use this antenna design. So, it should stand behind that decision and deal with it alone and not involve RIM in "Apple's self-made debacle" It is understandable that Apple wants to innovate, but they have to realize that sometimes innovation can fail.. I thought that they learned from their past failures… Antennagate is a joke, Jobs should just admit that mistakes happen and we learn and grow from them...

One thing... Although it is not written in this article, Jobs did mention Nokia at the conference. He said, "Some Nokia phone come with a sticker saying "Don't touch here"..."
Obviously he must have been comparing his new Iphone 4 with those 10 year old Nokia phones that have an antenna sticking out. Because only those phones had such a sticker!

I'm glad RIM came out and said something. It's also Nokia said something even though they weren't mentioned. That whole "death grip" is a bunch of bull at least on my Blackberry Curve 8900. I'm on the T-Mobile network which is good but by no means the best, and where I live my service isn't steallar either (I usually stay under a Wi-Fi network at home) but I tried it. Turned the Wi-Fi off, and my 1 bar dropped for 2 seconds, then it went right back to where it was. I've never lost a call, unless I was out in the middle of no where, where there isn't any signal at all. I just find it so ammusing that Apple is catching so much crap from other companies. They deserve it though, NO ONE has an antenna design like that because yes the very low attenuation that the human body can do to a phone dose inpact antennas and signals, which is why everyone keeps them away from from direct contact by sticking them inside the phone, and in places where someone's hand probably would be found under normal usuage positions. I've never like the iPhone or Apple from day one. They make a good computer but that's about it. They rely on their god-like marketing to make people buy their product. Its a shame

I still can't believe that Jobs made that childish move. Is he in elementary school still?
If you make a mistake, stand by it. Nobody cares what everyone else does. Make YOUR product GOOD enough. Apple shareholders and customers couldn't care less about RIM, HTC or Nokia phones!

Apple is desperate. Look at how Motorola does it: they advertised Droid X as "has two internal antennas which enable the full signal no matter how you hold your phone". Cool.
AND, and BUT, they NEVER pointed a finger at any fruit.

ive read here a lot of people mentioning youtube videos with so called "death grip"
first of all, most of those videos include holding the phone in an unnatural way, which is not the case with the iphone
second, i have not seen any video of any calls dropped by nokia, samsung, htc... only iphone
so i really cant understand why people bring it up and try to compare
if a signal drops a few bars ok
but a dropped call is something more serious

It's obvious most pe... moreahah, can't afford the iphone, that's a good one... well basically the iphone costs exactly as much as all other top of the line phones, and it as a really low price on contract so actually I think the iphone it's cheap and not expensive, and it's easy to see that because everybody as one, so, how can someone can be special and unique with the same phone that everybody else??? Thanks God they are having issues, I was proved right when I decide to go for my white xperia! (yes, apple didn't invented the white)

So, it appears that with the design issue on the iPhone 4, Apple are not taking true ownership of the problem and are thus hitting out wherever they can at other manufacturers in a poor attempt to make it seem less specific to themselves.
A strong, solid and reassuring response from RIM (I have not owned a blackberry and dont really plan to as, to be fair, they're just not my kind of phone, doesnt make them any less awesome for that though, I place great respect in the direction of RIM as the phones are fantastically designed)
I wonder when Samsung and HTC will respond to this as well.
Before anyone accuses me of hating the iPhone or Apple, I don't. Appart from the iPhone 4, they've been fantastic phones. I've never owned one, I don't really feel the need to. But they're good phones. I'm disappointed at the lack of improvements on the iPhone 4, Apple could have gone a LOT further with it. But they didn't. And they stuffed up what they did, and are making the situation worse. Who knows, maybe they'll sort their mess out in the end, but only time will tell. For now I'll remain happy with the phone I own (Google Nexus One for anyone interested) and remain otherwise neutral in regards to the iPhone itself and the company Apple as I neither love nor hate them. They just seem to be making fools of themselves for now.

How comical from Apple.. they more or less deny that there is a problem (or espouse that it's a VERY small problem), then attack other companies, but then offer FREE cases to their customers anyway. A lot of defensive cover up going on there for a problem that isn't even that great, if Mr Jobs is to be believed. Snort.

My younger brother always use other people also make same mistake as the excuse when he make mistake. I know because he still the kids. But when i watch steve behaviours also same as my younger brother. Use other brand also make same mistake as a excuse to escape the mistake.feel Too disappointed.

I have not been able to make the signal go down on my blackberry 9700 so I don't understand what apple is talking about.
