Anonymous, 21 Jul 2010Turns out that all phones behave the same, lol. It's only ... morenot tothe extent that the iphone4 has this issue. If you listened to consumer reports they said they dont recommend it at this TIME, but wait until a fix .They also said put some duct tape over the area. If you own the iphone4 now.The media owes nothing to apple.

Now we know what Apple was doing for those three weeks. They went out and bought every single phone from every other manufacturer and took the worse of the bunch and took video of their losing signal while gripped tightly. How many phones do you think Apple went through in order to find ones that had the weakest signal while you grip the phone tightly? Do you really think that those few phones Apple showed happened to be the only phones they tried in their lab?
Apple is lucky that the most well known videos of the iPhone 4 losing signal is with a standard grip. The iPhone 4 also loses signal when you simply touch the bottom left corner with a finger without having to grip the phone. I highly doubt that other phones lose as much signal strength with a mere touch of your finger without needing to grip it tightly. So far, I have only seen the iPhone 4 exhibit this effect.
Apple only has one model of phone that is current, so this signal problem affects their entire current product line. Other manufacturers have many models of smartphones. What we saw from Apple is likely the phones with the worse signal issues. Likely all of the other models are not as affected by this signal issue as greatly as the ones that Apple has shown.
I felt that Apple acted very unprofessional with their response to their antenna issue. Instead of spending part of their 3 weeks trying to find similar flaws in their competitors' products, they should have just looked for a solution for their own product sooner. If they had just came out in a few days and showed that a bumper will improve signal performance and that they would offer it for free, there would not have been so much fallout about their behaviour.
One thing that I felt missing from their press conference is actual proof that the bumper helps. I would have liked for them to show a video of the signal issue while holding the iPhone 4 and then show another video with the iPhone 4 held the same way, but now with a bumper. This way we as consumers and critics will know that the bumper actually does help. Why did Apple not show this in their press conference? I watched the press conference to find out what Apple was going to do about the antenna issue. All I got out of it was unprofessional mudslinging, but no proof that the bumper that they are offering actually helps.

its not just about loosing bars. But loosing couple bars leads iphone to drop calls. and it doesnt happen with other phones. Other phones like samsung and nokia might loose bars. but it doesnt drop calls cuz of that. they signal is still stong enough to keep a call going even if it drops to 1 or 2 bars unlike iphone

The other cell companies dont bad mouth apple but apple has this particular antenna fault all on its own.So steve jobs you can point out the flaw in other phones if you are without sin.(in other words if your iphone has no flaws of its own at all)

Turns out that all phones behave the same, lol. It's only because it's the iphone that's why the media and the haters made a big deal of it. And now that Apple exposes everyone, haters don't appreciate it either. And what's up with this article's last statement? Is it implying that it's ok to bring up Apple's attenuation issues and it's not ok to bring up others? Lol.
No wonder none of them denied Apple's statement on weak spots. Because it is true. So what's up with the media singling out the iphone? And what's up with Consumer Reports not recommending the iphons4 when all phones have attenuation issues. The media owes Apple an apology, but of course they won't.

icrap, 21 Jul 2010are you stupid, the iphone has reception issues and the way... moreYou’re misunderstanding me, I agree that apple is not being responsible for the crappy phone they created, I also agree that pointing a finger at other manufactures for having similar faults won’t solve the costumer’s problem, but the best way to fight apple is not paying any attention to them, look at all the crap people said about the ipad and compare it to how much it has sold!! Even if it’s just an oversized ipod touch!! All apple wants is attention, don’t you think they’re getting it now?

That's true, I can kill the signal on my Nokia 2700 classic too (cover the bottom part where the antenna is located of the phone).
'Antennagate' happens maybe because of the fame of iPhone. Now Apple can feel what it's like when you are the dominator, just like Microsoft Windows.

Here's another medley of phones, including the iphone, showing attenuation problems when held the wrong way. Yes, Steve was right in saying "you're holding it the wrong way".

What I don't understand is why most of the phones do not have that issue and Iphone (and some others) do have it.
I mean, they should not look at each other and see if someone else has the same issue. They should look at all the phones that never had that problem and see why it is like that.
If all the new phones had that issue then it may be understandable. But if only a few of them have it (as it is in reality) then clearly it is a design flaw that they overlooked.
Please note that I am talking without any specific knowledge. So if I am wrong please let me know.

Once again confusing dropping bars with dropping calls. Any phone can lose signal bars if you cover the antenna part, and still make a perfect call with one signal bar left. Well, ALMOST any phone. Apple, stop being a clown! Phones weren't invented yesterday!

I have a N97 mini and try that but only dropped 1 bar... and never loose the 3g connection.
Apple should stop smoking that weed and start fixing their phone instead blaming other companies...

I will say anything wrong to iphone owner and other brands owner. But what I see, it's a bad behaviour of apple behaviour to try to lie and manipulate people to sell his product in pointing finger against other manufacturers. If I describe this video,I will say he never say thruth. The phone is 3,5 G mode, when it loses signal automatically it will pass to the best network with a better and stronger signal, 3 G and after gsm to no drop signal when you call or receive or send data, perhaps iphone don't know that but when signal is completely dropped on Nokia phone you will never see provider's name. Mr Steve Jobs says truth to your customer and don't try to hide your mistake or your failed products by manipulate people's brain when you try to focus your problem on other brands.

Could you guys just think that maybe its the lousy reception that the US telcos are transmitting that are to blame for all this? I'm based in SouthEast Asia and tried to replicate this with my N97. Even held it with both hands but guess what? It didnt even loose a bar! Full signal strength with 3.5G network.
Something to ponder on, AT&T?
