Apple squeezes the reception out of Nokia N97 mini

21 July, 2010
Apple seem keen to prove other smartphones have the same reception attenuation as the iPhone 4. And they are getting back with a video of Nokia N97 mini that suffers from the same grip of death as the iPhone...

lol does steve have anything better to do?instead of pointing fingers at others why can't he just admit his mistakes? and stop blaming others...you know, there's a famous saying 'one finger pointing at others three pointing back at yourself' at least other manufacture don't blame others for their own mistakes(and they are much more experience in making phones than apple and they respect people and didn't tell lies like apple)...

my friend & i have tried doing it. He has a nokia n97 mini and i have the n79. We were both in 3G mode and tried to grip the phones hardly with both hands. My friend's n97 mini only dropped by one bar and mine too. The phones' signal only dropped to 3 bars when we held them tightly without the battery covers. So apple, i'm not sure... I do like some of your other products like ipods and macs but this iphone 4 is a no-go for me.

This is so just stupid. Why trying to find out others mini-mistakes or even no mistake?? To hide your major major mistake??

I am using N97 mine and for the past 1 hour i am trying to hold it in all the postions imaginable to see if signal strenth goes down -it dosent

If there was such a signal issue with all manufacturers then why havent any one ever heard about it before or why is it not a big issue for that matter why has this blame game started with iphone 4 why not with iphone 1 , 2 or 3 .

Apple should try to fix the issue instead of pointing fingers at others .

Thank God I did not buy iphone & instead went for other manufacturers like Motorolla , SE & now Nokia .

you don't have to grip the iphone, touching with one finger is enough

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2010my 2 years old N82 never dropped a call even when having on... moreWORD i've tested it with the nokia 5800 and it does drop to two bars when in Dual mode(3.5G connection) but when in GSM mode not a single bar drops no matter how hard you grip the phone. IMO apple are reacting in a very childish manner pointing fingers to other companies and dragging them to their level n forcing people to see that other phones have the same issues as theirs doesn't fix the problem. By the way the manner at which the other phones are been held is very unnatural and requires a very strong grip which is completely not applicable when you are using your phone to make a call or using any other feature. And these videos and demostration poppin out in their websites is really funny, have you ever seen nokia advertising how easy it is to transfer music and other files from your pc to their phones when compared to apple's itunes ?

Apple is so desperate to keep iphone 4 alive because they have not yet started working on iphone 5. they have nothing to sell so they try to be cheeeky and steal's someone else's food with their own expired can of chopped tomatoes.

Apple should try to solve their own problem. Insted they are working hard to find one in competition's products.

my 2 years old N82 never dropped a call even when having only 1 signal bar in underground parking lots.. also switching back to GSM will boost the reception..

Steve Jobs, please admit your faults and stop pointing fingers to everyone.. that's just childish

Its laughable that the reception on the iPhone 4 is the most highlighted and lengthiest debate I have seen in mobile history. First of all, ALL mobile phones have reception issues to some point. Yes the so called "death grip" has been emphasised, but you will lose some signal on any mobile phone the longer you hold it. Ok, iPhone 4 users have experienced problems on their signal but its been made out by iPhone haters that ALL iPhone 4's have signal issues. Correction haters: Not all iPhone 4's have issues, only some. Hence the sales of the phones still keep rising despite the highly publisised issues raised. Why do people keep on buying the iPhone 4? Because most people who buy it recognise that the iPhone is arguably the BEST touchscreen mobile with the BEST user experience.

Now onto Apple. I agree pinpointing other mobiles isnt the way forward. But to a certain point Apple are trying to say "stop making such a major issue out of the iPhone when other mobiles also have signal issues". I do feel Apple have gone about resolving this in a pretty far fetched and frustrating manner. But iPhone 4 customers all have the option to return their phones for a full refund if they are not happy. Haters are you listening, a FULL REFUND. What more do you want? And yet despite all this saga, iPhone 4 sales rise and there are still MILLIONS of happy iPhone owners!!

Now onto Nokia. I have to be blunt. Nokia products may have the hardware but overall they cannot match the iPhone for user experience. If Nokia was so great, why are more people buying the iPhone over any Nokia smartphone? Nokia have been around for donkeys years so dont need marketing strategies. The reason why people buy the iPhone over Nokia smartphones is that iPhones are simply better. Thats a fact. Sales figures and happy customers speak for itself. :)

i have Nokia N97 Mini in my hand right now.
i've tried so hard to squeeze my phone, but nothing happened.
                                      there's no signal drop whatsoever.

i've finally managed to drop the signal by covering it with both my hands plus my wife hands until you can't see the phone anymore.
and after all our efforts, the signal only dropped from 4 bars to 2 bars.

so, is it just another apple's black campaign?
