22 July, 2010
And the results are in - Nokia just announced their Q2 financial results. To summarize - sales are up, profits are down, shifting currency exchange rates didn't help and smartphones have sold more units and...

WasANokian, 22 Jul 2010The new N8 should have high expectations similar to when N9... moreyou're 100% correct about the n97, i had it and it did have many problems and that was all due to wrong budgeting. they put money into the physical design rather than the os and the hardware and for that, nokia's rep took a beating. but also, if that phone hadn't turned out they way it did, thier fans wouldn't have complained they probably wouldn't have started symbian from scratch.

the actual problem is the euro that dropped really low this year and a smart move to lower the price for the upcoming new models from nokia to get better sale but yet again to get more they will have to subsidize the prices and have contracts with providers to get back that 8% they lost

WasANokian, 22 Jul 2010The new N8 should have high expectations similar to when N9... moreI was like you, hardcore Nokia for years, funny enough also an iPhone hater just cos ppl hated it. When I finally caved in and got my 3GS I haven't looked back! It's the best phone I have ever owned and used! Nokia can still make low to mid range phones very well, their high end devices are not competition for the iPhone n Android Market. Nokia are trying to provide competition for the high but are failing to do so, and their high end devices are mainly for Nokia owners who want a business phone.

Can someone tell me how the average price of smartphone is 140 euros? Even the lowest smartphone costs much more than that! The prices doesnt change even if you take into account developing nations.

                dear gsmarena,

why do always have an explanation for Nokia's DOWNFALL?

if SMARTPHONES are getting cheaper and SAMSUNG, MOTOROLA, APPLE, LG, SE and others are focusing on smartphones, why do they have increasing profit? hmmm.. oh well, since day 1, GSMarena is ALWAYS on Nokia's back. wink ;)

The new N8 should have high expectations similar to when N97 was. Only concern is its new Symbian 3. It is a new OS, and I am very very sure that there will be many issues with it....then comes the long wait for new firmwares...and so the headache begins.

I've been a Nokia fan since the days of N95. Then went on to N95-8GB, E71, and finally N97. I was even an IPHONE hater...yes that is true! Of all the phones I've used, it seems that the e71 was the most stable and N97 was the worse of all. There are just too many issues with the phones via hardware and software especially N97, that was the last nail to seal the coffin for me to leave Nokia. Since I was an Iphone hater..I was wondering why Apple sales were up, always sold out on iphones, and lines were always long when purchasing one. One day, I decided to have an open mind and stopped discriminating other Manufactures then tried the new Iphone 4 for 2 weeks....My headaches disappeared!!! Ever since i got the phone and turned it on, I had never turned it off and its been 4 weeks! No lockups, No slowness! With the N97, I had to turn it off multiple times during the day or even removing the battery. And that stupid scratch on the lense.

Im not saying get an Iphone...just have an open mind and try others..ie Android, RIM, Bada, Apple..etc. You will notice how outdated Nokia has been and how others are catching up..FAST!

If this situation is came 3-yrs before...... than there will be no chances for NOKIA to produce it;s low quality..........porty look, and superslow mobiles........... as they are making fool of peoples by just changing the names.... the go has given them punishment,,,,,, to make fool of there customers................

                    "NOKIA DISTRACTING PEOPLE"

I am very happy to see nokia in this situation "TIT FOR TAT"

Haha just as i thought nokia are having a hard time and soon they will fall,i see great potential in the iphone 4 and soon the whole nokia company and all its ugly phones will be outsold by one premium iphone. They say my iphone 4 drops calls and fails as a phone but who's average price is falling who's profit is falling. Food for though.
