Waxx, 20 Aug 2010no. how intensive it is on the processor and battery to do ... morei'd say that Android touchscreens are way better than any touchscreen Nokia have released so far. just a more natural experience... obviously if you're only interested in telephony then there's always the 3310. it's an incredibly efficient phone.

[deleted post]nokia is the true innovator. way before the iphone or android was even thought of nokia had a device which had bluetooth, wifi, infrared, and a card slot. nokia is coming back slowly but surely. go to youtube and look up MeeGo there is a leak of it on there 1:29 long nokia will rule again its just a matter of time.

[deleted post]you are sofa king dumb. lets see when a company puts slightly more ram and slightly larger processor in a computer, do they call it innovative? I don't think so. one point you do have is that s60v5 IS terrible(thats the touchscreen version of symbian if you didn't know) but s60v3 is the best os of its time.

It's like many people doing a specific Job within a warehouse or shopfloor. Many of these people are likened to the part of the architecture of processor, how well, efficiently they accomplish their parts of their work in less time. Sometimes doing more per the time slot another perso who carries out the same task has.
The same thing can apply to the CPU & the OS's for their Core functionality, control. For X86 made the Intel processor more compatible, compliant to run on the codebase for Windows, this slowed Intel CPU's down with Windows using no's of method & nbo's of Instruction sets to get something done. Mobile SOC are generally way ahead over desktop with less overheads, less instruction sets, but generally more advanced instruction sets, & methods.
OS's always drive the hardware & the hardware then need to be multi platform mutli instruction sets, multi features which certain OS's have to control & take advantage. For instance the RISC chip was capable of multi tasking & achieving the OS requests in a much more efficient & quicker way with a whole different architecture. MIPS etc.. piplines, etc...scalable instructions sets not suited to one function etc...

assuming 2 chips have as efficient an architecture as each other, then the one with more clock cycles will go faster.
if that wasn't the case then why do Nokia insist on putting faster and faster processors in their hardware?
you'll probably respond that it's because they want to research their processors properly before rolling out a product.
i'd say it's because their operating system is so old it can't handle more elegant functions such as kinetic scrolling, and therefore newer more efficient (and therefore faster) processors are wasted on the software.
android devices such as the Wildfire and Galaxy 5700 are way cheaper than the N97 or 5800 and far more impressive.
i love the E72, and reckon it's currently Nokia's best product, but in terms of touchscreens Nokia has a long way to go before it catches up to the competition.
i love the look of the N8 and N9 but can't help thinking that the hands on experience of the OS will be the same old story as the 5230...

At the end of the day it's down to the OS Architecture. Get a good OS you will have no problem with the hardware. Some OS don't use the hardware to ther full potential & the problem is with the OS. They are so bogged down, & not efficient to control the hardware properly. It's like a F1 driver that might have better senses, abiltiities, reflexes or he may have a cople of fears or make split second judgements, the wrong ones or bad ones, or good ones. Much of this process in thinking is contributing factor to controlling what you have well, & getting to destination faster. May be due to quicker better judgements, less thinking, less fear, more control etc... lol

Whatever people say. There are humpteen factors involved for a processor, ram to do their job. More importantly is how the specific OS uses these processors & ram to the best benefit of the hardware & how Os reacts to this. Things like die size nm .60 will help benefit the cpu to use less power, more transistors.
How many stages within a CPU's pipline & the amount of cache is available for pre cattching, holding, dispatching. The pipline burst cahce. Some processor have less stages which can provide more bandwith in less time with relativley less clock cycles instructions per set of data it's given. architecture, cache, stages of processing, how many threads, memory handlers, processor handlers.
Consider these before considering the Clock cycles per second. Because they may not achieve anything quicker. Like some processor complete more arithmetic using more efficient methods using less clock cycles per second. The data width of buses helps in lots of ways.
The Nokias N8 for example has plenty of horsepower for what is needed within a Mobile Symbian OS. OS's should be designed to make full use of the processor abilitites & specs but sadly they aren't always. I wish people would stop believing that higher clock frequencies 1,000Mhz is faster than 680Mhz.
When it comes to CPUs, it how much the processor completes in 680Mhz, it could well be more than a CPu with 1000Mhz. Because of the underlying architecture. How it does it, not neccessarily how fast it's clock rate is.
Memory on the other hand does matter for speed & bandwith to give data to CPU. But capcacity shouldn't be a problem. The problem is how much of that the OS uses.
