Neither phone wins. To be honest, I think Nokia did too little for their smartphone. They could do a lot better, just like what they did with 7710. Some small improvements here n there makes the phone more suited for some daily usage. I really hate Series60 alarm BTW. Well, for K800, it has a way too old OS. Come on.. it dated back to T68 i think. Nothing much changed. Its just about camera, camera and camera since then.

I am not suprised that Sony won and i am a NOKIA user. The article clearly depicts camera capabilities and it seems that overall Sony is better. No doubt, they still have the crown. It seems this is the important thing. I mean it doesn't matter how shitty the firmware on Sony is. CAMERA POWER!!! People are not scared that their bluetooth module will not work after a while, that their phone reboots by itself (see the w800 and the k750i), etc. Y'all go buy this one for the camera and enjoy the camera. I will buy the Nokia one for its better reliability and platform. N93 :) here i come :P.

Why would someone say nokia's bluetooth and other high tech stuff are bought from third parties?I think they must be intimidated by nokia's giant technology status. And in case you dont know still images and sound is where Se will just have a subtle difference over nokia and never ever as in phone.even the still images is no longer comfortable with SE AS nokia is rapidly closing in on it.now coming to the camera competition between n80 and k800. Which will i really take? Here's my take: still imaging the k800 is ahead by a slight margin because of the autofocus but the n80 is very good comparably. Then the video the k800 is just too terrible. So the n80 delivers a perfect image (though slightly behind that of k800)and the best video possible almost like dvd. K800 on the other hand only delivers a perfect camera with video that is hardly suitable for anything. I think my personal choice is the n80. And all you samsung fans breaking your way into this competition, if gsm arena doesn't deem you fit so it this. Just live with it. After all we all know samsung aint got nothing to offer than cheap flip phones and crazy start up tone.

you sead that n80 has + becouse it hase wifi and a beter recording an ....
whel ssony has + becouse it hase much beter batery life(this i belive is very important to many people , nokia sucks at batery life)it has a xenon flash(at least it ha a camera that can actuly replace a standard camera)an i bet that it is a lot faster than n80(all noki nowdays are very slow)

While comparing NOKIA and Sony Ericsson mobile devices, we should do consider some realities and never forget to realize that both manufacturers have different approach to address the market and both have different cult to target their audiences as well as customers. First and the foremost key differentiators between the two is NOKIA manufactures the best communication devices with all aspects but SONY ERICSSON's distinction is offering the best and maximum multimedia capabilities. Secondly, NOKIA already attains a very wide customers base and each of the proposed or the offered product is meant for an entirely a different class of people e.g. See the difference b/w 3250 and N91 both are Musical devices but one is for those who are not well to do and they care least about what they carry in their hands but they just need maximum set of functions in one device and that even on very low cost and the other one is for those who not only need maximum possibilities but also very much conscious about the class to which they belong and they do believe their mobile set should depict the class to which they belong. Now if you look at SONY ERICSSON, although here too you find different classes of its proposed or the offered products but its classification of sets is not based on the purchasing power of the people but on the basis of people' current inclination and on their choices. Looking on SONY's wide range of Multimedia products and its capability in different multimedia devices including Digital cams and best TVs with unique color screens and very nice sound quality, its Walkmans etc, it seems SONY is on its way to decrease the production and wants to provide all these segments into Mobile Phones. Then all of us know it very well that before entering into business with SONy, Ericsson was never good in offering good mobile devices rather due to their poor reception quality, bad battery timing and very low standard other capabilities though those were maximum as today, was totally a failure. Hence,comparing SONY ERICSSON with NOKIA shall always lead us conclude SE as the winner but not as a good phone but as one of the best multimedia devices. NOKIA on the other hand, always comes with new experiemnts and even if this comes with any innovation with respect to multimedia, it's always risk for it but whatsoever the aspect of communication you take into account, NOKIA spells over and no doubt this is what that makes it as the best MOBILE PHONE and this is what has sustained it as a TRUE market Leader. Hence, to cut the long story short, NOKIA is the best in comunication but SONY ERICSSON spells over in terms of its multimedia capabilities and really really innovative, genuine and truly pretty n glamourous design.

yes i do know the difference between a smartphone and an ordinary phone. and i agree with you the specs are much better and i probable spoke to soon in a way. i guess i was talking more from a selling point, when it comes to the sony ericsson they are much easier to sell because most ppl that come in are from a youger generation or they dont care about the high tecs of mobiles they just want the sweet camera and, mp3 and style. so ill take back what i said. i just think nokia should start bringing out something with style and stray away from the high tecs of mobiles and make something cool. (and im not talking about the glamour series they are just funny) basically what im saying is sony are going to do a little better because of the larger crowd they are attracting.

To Robert: So you work in phone industry and don't know the difference between smartphone and ordinary phone? When comparing the specs, the Nokia N80 crushes SE K800. And don't tell me that getting miniSD or MMCmobile is more difficult than getting MemoryStick.
Back to camera comparison, I saw the pictures already on mobilmania.cz and I'm suprised with the N80 picture quality. Still I think that SE wins the camera battle but its not way ahead, the pics are only slightly better (and some, in my opinion, are worse than N80s) and video is so much better on N80.
So:
Pictures: Winner K800
Video: Winner N80
Specs: Winner N80 (way ahead)
From these two phones I would definitely buy the N80.

it will be more interesting if more 3.2mp phones such as the samsung p850 and sharp 903sh were thrown into the comparison. imo, the 903sh and p850 takes better pictures.
also, don't bother about the n73/93 vs k800i. i'm sure the k7985453i will beat the n73/93. why bother to bring up phones that are not even close to release?

Well, I think that N80 is better.It may not have autofocus but when you have experience with cameraphones you don't need it(my opinion)And also the video capture is superb.I bet that it looks great on the phones screen.It looks good on PC screen, well not the best but its still better than most

hey guys, i work in the fone industry and from what ive been seeing is sony ericsson is kicking butt. nokia just isnt attracting like they used to. the sonys bring a nice stylish fone with all the features of a nokia and the sony cameras are so much better. another thing their expandable memory is so much easier to buy and use, nokia fones are to tempermentle when it comes to immatation brands. i have so many customers wanting to expand the memory but cannot find a genuine nokia card anywhere. at this stage of mobile communication go sony

well i think every 1 voits the phone or brand which he is using wheather it god or trash .k800 is good phone but only due to its camra.nokia old and new cellphons are better then se (in performence).a persone using nokia enjoy its functions.i will voit for NOKIA N80 & N92,N73 they r full of tec. and have grase in hand .SE is candybar type cellphons .1 buy it then after 1 or 3 months he want to sall it and try another phone.it dosent met with heart........when u spend mony on nokia it gives u out put.NOKIA IS THE BEST but i have SE P910i & Z200

The k800/790 by far has the better shots. And the pictures were taken in normal mode, not "fine". Another thing is, the Sony Ericsson was still in its development stage, so imporvements are still to come! It out classed the Nokia in every test. Even though the Nokia has good pictures, the Sony Ericsson is 2 stepps ahead.

comparing the original scenery to the pictures would show how effective did the phone and camera kept the colours. so the original scenery would be a major aspect in comparing the pictures.....

as good as the pictures are with the SE , they are not that much better that they could neglect the video clarity. For me the nokia is more of a full package

This is a camera comparison between N80 and K800, K800 is a imaging phone while N80 is a smartphone.
N80 have all possible tech and Symbian S60 OS and K800 no, this phones are destined to different market segments, both phones belongs to different class.
You evaluate your needs before buy a phone, if you arent a bussines man, why do you buy an expensive N80?
If you like take pics and listen the radio or Mp3, and search the quality in this features, simply: go with K800!
Simply.
K800 has the best image quality in this moment around all phones and is full functionality 3g phone.
But it isnt the discussion, GSMarena talk about camera properties in this article.
I dont understand the people who read the article and later say that N80 is the best, read the article please, in this article not talk about wifi, or symbian or quick office, nothing of this.
Only talk about photographic quality of N80 and K800, and the winner is K800.
