k800 is more a cameraphone than n80.n80 is a multimedia-business phone(wi-fi,best screen resolution, symbian,fm.tuner etc).i believe the answer to k800 is n73 which btw is better in every segment.but dont see coming until october.i hope to see a symbian-cameraphone from se at the size of k800.

I think sony ericsson will always give the best pictures quality. coz it uses cyber shot quality. Nokia would never beat it. Even in N90 vs W800,, w800 still won the best picture. Besides, the music quality also won by Sony ericsson Walkman phone, So, gud luck for sony ericsson

unfortunately... N80 lost... big time! nokia is just one step behind ALL sony ericsson, from the camera poin of view...
and it's a shame... I'm realy curious what the N73 camera will be like... and judgeing from what i've seen here, i'm expecting another failure!
      too bad :(

yup, currently, all the great mobile phone companies are doing equally well (e.g samsung, sony ericsson, nokia, etc). all the mobile phones produced by them are equally reliable. this is no more like last time, when nokia alone monopolised the mobile phone industry in the world. it's up to the people to judge each mobile phone based upon their insight on modern mobile phones. no more bias!!!

Nokia rules, simple as that. Reliable phone which can do basically anything. Although SE pictures are better... i gotta admit, id buy n80 because its reliable, and at least ill be sure that my investment will last long. And to those who say that SE have no bugs or crashes... would you mind going to the w550, w810 and k750 forums and take a look? There you'll find stuff like: white screen of dead, crashes during calls, joystick failures and the list keeps going and going.

Camera is NOT everything in a phone... a phone is used basically for making and receiving calls, and Nokia is hands down better than Sony Ericsson in those subjects.

I gotta admit that SE phones are quite appealing, its design is way much better than that of Nokia, they are quite cheaper and seem to have "the whole package" but just make some calculations guys. You might pay 400€ for the k800 (theoretical prices, i dont have the prices at hand) and pay lets say... 650 € for the n80. At least you'll be sure that itll last functioning the way its supposed to be for... lets say a year and a half. If you buy k800 you'll have a beautiful, great imaging phone but itll surely crash in best cases after a year of getting it. So you buy another one at the price of let say... 300€. 650€ N80, 700€ 2 x K800...

              Should I say anymore???

Oh yeah... P.S. Sony's specification for the battery life is soooooooo not real. I had a k700 and i had to recharge it everyday and with a regular use of about 10 minutes of conversation and 10 sms. Thats far from the weeks that SE claims to have as battery life.

Guys this is how you determine the better device. You consider that one that best replaces the need for purchasing another device. Nokia's wifi will not replace a laptop (or come close) Smartphone to me can not replace laptops, Nokia's dvd quality recording will not replace need for a camcorder. Yet those are the fields which it tries to compete with.
Sony ericsson phone are more multi media phones. The Camera of K800? can it replace the need for a camera? Yas, if you're the average person the k800 will do the trick. Sony's multi media features also replace the need for an ipod or disc man.
Guys a if sony tries to make a phone that has powerful movie viewing features, it will not nearly replace movie viewing at home, hence the device is,'t as good as it seems. You just can't replace somethings in life like e.g big screen, 5.1 sound movie viewing. So nokia having wifi which is better than SE not having it is basically null, SE on the other hand is superior to nokia on Camera and sound, which is good enough to replace such devices , Hence the K800 is the superior phone

Well...I think K800 is the winner... coz it have Xenon Flash, nice close up capture, more detail, have autofocus, and the colors is more natural...jus the resolution of the video is too small...

Well agree with you there Tarantula... Nokia User if you wan stick to your brand... wat can i see from the spec there n also as a Ericsson n SE user for 5 over years at here n also worked in a Factory that manufactured plenty of bluetooth device from them i know how is their quality n also revolution... Nokia 1st phone manufacturer... Are you sure??? How about NEC n Motorola??? Don forget those old brands which obselete... Samsung make nice phone too... I never heard of software crashes since 1-2 year ago from SE user... they make T610i the revolution from Ericsson n also software wise they are ahead... think... K700i 0.3MP camera lens still can output 1.3MP with nice quality... Don even try to compare S60 with P series UIQ... My fren using P910i.which he say better n way user friendly than S60... Touch screen make it more easy... I have used it... very nice... R310... have u heard of it... monoscreen with PDA function...
Please accept the revolution from SE... with 4 years they catch up with Nokia n other competitors so well...Lets see samsung n motorola... they are coming up with nice phones too...
I'm not saying Nokia is making bad phones...
They are making Bulky phone n expensive phone that not worth it...
Lets see the N80 n also K800i... see the 1st Retail prices... which is cheaper n also see the quality of the phone...

Jus my single cens opinion though

Please, nokia is 1st phone maker, but the mayor sales are in budget class.
SE have the best quality in multimedia phones like walkman and cybershot, they focalized their production in market necessity and no need to produce a millions of smartphones, all buggiest and slow, like nokia.
Who says that SE is no innovative phone maker, do you remember phones like Ericsson T39m, Ericsson T68m, SE T68i, SE T610, K750, all P series (the most usefull)
Nokia produce a lot of symbian phones, but all are buggy and slow, this is the giant phone maker??????
Music and camera quality always is mediocre, like nokias OS S60, the most mediocre OS that you will find in the world. S60 cant be compared with UiQ, windows mobile and Linux.
UiQ is the best in all aspects, this OS crush S60 starting by the fact that is a touchscreen OS, simply is more usefull.
The N80 cant be compared to P990 becuase the last one simple beat N80 starting again by UiQ, and tech including in both phones are almost the same, but P990 surpassed N80.
And again SE beat Nokia in this camera comparison, K800 is the best and is an excellent 3g phone with the best photo quality.
N80 is a great smartphone, but you will have better options from others manufacturers, is just matter of time.
For guys waiting for N93, dont hope that the photo quality in N93 are great, remember the case of N90 with K750, the more lighter and cheaper K750 simply beat the Carl Zeiss N90.
This is the true, nokia would be 1st phone maker, but this status no mean that nokia is the best manufacturer, this is a mistake

Both phones look great, can't possibly pick a winner between these two in real terms. I love SE phones, but will have to have both in my hands before i decide which is the one for me. Great report, will look forward to your reviews of both phones :-)

excellent review, i do think the k800 takes better photos than the nokia n80.If only the k800 would record better video like the w900, it would be unmatched

to everyone the simple fact is nokia has been making phones for a long time and so has mastered the art of making a phone for every sector of the market but has never b4 now made multimedia devices so they constantly make devices that r inferior to those from se in terms of multimedia so too with se they dont make phones for everbody so if you dont have a large budget go with nokia if u do and want the best multimedia device go with se.and by the way this competition btw these 2 phone giants can only be good 4 us the consumers in terms of better devices ie K700 & 6230i and cheaper devices.and u guy who dissed samsung phones in recent times sansung has made much better devices than nokia ie d500 & d600

Well the day The Guys at Sony Ericsson understand that they are the best in Multimedia Department of the current phones(The Best Music Output and Brilliant Camera really hard to admit for a Nokia Fan Like me!!:-( )and make their phones more user friendly, add more smartphone dimension to it and last but not the least use really stable Symbian OS ( I have witnessed a lot of SE Phones Crashes!! Even I and a lot users can at least pin point the cause of a Nokia Phone Crash!!) only then they can pose a serious threat to Nokia. Just selling their phones for music and camera is just not enough. In the Future of Smartphones these one time entertaining things can be ignored. I mean do SE think that majority of users really use their Phone CAMERAS AND AS AN MP3 PLAYER!!! Nokia phones just are miles ahead in smartphone capabilties!! So thinking practically Nokia is really going to be ahead if Sony is busy just adding more multimedia stuff to its phones!!!

I'm neither a SE or Nokia fan , but from what I see here SE K800 definately outshine N80.
