Froyo update for Samsung I9000 Galaxy S delayed until October

22 September, 2010
If you were counting the days until the Froyo update hits the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S we have some bad news - you’ll have to count longer than expected. The update has been delayed in Spain and India and...

I have to say, my mother's Galaxy S has been NOTHING but trouble. Slow, laggy, screen malfunctions and now the Samsung Kies software that is mandatory for the update won't recognise the Galaxy S' existence (hasnt since we got the phone). This is a pretty common problem. For a manufacturer slowly building in the world, its something they gotta sort out quite frankly.

Anonymous, 23 Sep 2010I am a little dissapointed but can live with eclair. Phone ... morethe fix for gps is definitely coming out with froyo. You are right, with eclair, galaxy is still the top android atm. The htc HD2 only just catches up to the galaxy. I'd rather they release a bug free update than a half assed version.

And to those who are saying samsung wont release anything, you are dumb. Samsung wouldn't make froyo test releases for fun.

way to go Sammy! This was more than expected. After fiasco with Samsung Omnia HD support and firmwire issues I said goodbye to Sammy and I am glad I did.

If you bought a Galaxy S just because it would be updated in September, than frankly you're an idiot.

With all the great features of this phone running Eclair compared with both the iPhone 4 and HTC Desire, the wait for a minor version update shouldn't be a dea breaker.

Samsung's customisation to the OS provide many of the Froyo features already in the Eclair OS anyway

This is exactly why I didn't get this phone. I will not go Android until Google puts it's name (like Nexus) to a decent phone. Till then I'll continue with the support I get from Apple, albeit putting up with their garbage as well. It's a shame no one else has anything to offer in the smart phone market, because it's still more open than people think.

The obvious thing to do is root and install the UK version when its out, it seems. Samsung has disappointed a lot of people with this move, very dumb indeed!

Samsung was the one who provided components for iPhone (3GS proc is the same as the on on Samsung Omnia HD). What is the difference between Samsung Galaxy S, Nexus One, HTC Desire? They are all copying iPhone? Let me tell you, if Samsung or anyone else would have copied material copyrighted or patented by Apple, we would see a big trial right now. You are just a fanboy, admit it.

However aren't all the services in Korea good?
I live in UK and visited Korea last year, and I was amazed by the level of customer service anywhere you go.
Everything a customer request for are done quick and as expected in Korea.

But the truth is, and it's a depressing one, that for Samsung, that kind of service is not followed up out to us in Europe or any other country...
I don't know...it may be that they are doing a last tweek on the update,
but I'm starting to have doubt about the phone and the company now.
From the RAM to GPS, I think there has been reasonable amount of features that were unfinished and not fully running.
I just hope that Samsung could get it sorted out so we can enjoy the phone...

I'm seeing alot of people with issues regarding Samsung's support.

I'm a Korean native, though brought up in a Western nation ever since my toddler-years.

I don't know about other countries, but Samsung support in Korea is... you can't even describe it. There is NO word that can even depict to you just how good it is. It is EXCELLENT (and that's an understatement). Door-to-door service within 2 hours of calling, free service and written apology if anything (read, ANYTHING) is not done right.

With Samsung setting the benchmark in Korea, there are other brands (LG, Hyundai, even overseas companies like Sony, Apple etc etc) who try and compete on the customer / after service department. Heck, my personal opinion is Sony Korea's support is better than Sony Japan's support...

That all said, my guess for Samsung showing (bluntly) crap aftersales support in that specific country is Samsung's representative CEO (for that specific country) hasn't allocated the budget too well. Samsung Korea invests HUGE amounts into developing and maintaining a top-ranked customer service department. As such, should anything decide to go awry in that sector, you'd probably see mass demonstrations and riots in Korea...

My examples of good service in Korea.

                            1. A 5 year old SGH-E640 phone was run over by a car a few years back, damaging the main LCD screen (though nothing else...). I held onto that phone for a good 2 years in the hopes of getting it fixed once I travel to Korea, which I did a few months back. Since the E640 was a GSM model (our country only sells CDMAs or CDMA / GSM hybrids), I was asked if waiting 2 weeks was ok. I said sure, anything to get it fixed. So I wait a week and get a phone call saying it's fixed, and I can come pick it up that day (or they'll ship it to an address in Korea for free). I decide to pickup as the service centre was on-route to where I was staying. I pickup the phone and take out my wallet to pay the LCD fee, but I'm stopped saying the repair is free (LCD and labour), a sign of apology for taking 'too long' to fix.

                            2. I also had a 4 year old SGH-D600. The upper part of the slider (screen, keys and backlight minus the power button) was dead. It was dropped a few months back, which caused the issue. I took it in with my E640 above. That was fixed together with the E640 on the same day. Again, the repair there was also free, with a sincere apology from the receiptionist lady at the front desk.

                            3. A YP-T8 media player. Earphone jack stopped working. Fixed in 2 days, required opening and resoldering parts by the service personell. Cost US$5 in total.

                            4. A YP-U2 MP3 player. LCD screen cracked after I accidently sat on it..... Repair was on the same day (an hour from giving to getting it back in fact). Cost US$10.

So yeah. That's my experience with Samsung Korea. I personally haven't experienced any customer service in my growing-up country (New Zealand), cause, they don't (or didn't) have any Samsung service centres when any of the above occured.

I'm not an apple fanboy, in fact I hate the iphone! However, iphone users have all the right to call the galaxy s cr*p, do you know why ?? Because the galaxy is a copy cat of iphone. Yes a copy cat in everything ( looks - design - UI - no flash camera lol)

So I don't blame them if they contempt samsung, they really have a point! The guys who are trying to be creative are HTC. Unlike a company that is only good in copying = samsung
