Android is "open" so they can customise it however they want including adding crappy services that can't be deleted.
End users are the one's being conned when they think Android is "open" for them.

Seeing as how the SGS ships with 16GB.
The less than 2GB of App memory is a bit of a worry (1.89GB free on a Vodafone branded one straight out of the box).
That price you give is discounted for the Samsung, what's the real RRP?

I used to have a samsung behold and it had 1.6 andriod, and I remember the company promised to upgrade till 2.1, and guess what happened afterward!!!
Samsung changed their minds and said that there will be no upgrade at all! So who knows they may do the same thing now. Your better of with htc trust me, at least they stick with their word.

Rog, 22 Sep 2010The lag has nothing to do with the daily briefing app or ot... moreyet to turn your comment around isnt this the exact same issue with the iphone four, it needed a software patch to cure the issue with proximity sensor, it neede an additional case adding to it to eliminate atenna issues, regardless the opinion of fans on either side i see far more returns for the iphone four from disastified customers for a £550 handset (outright purchase price 32gb i4, nigh on us $860 ) then i do for a £356 phone (the sgs)
unfortunately the iphone is more of a fashion must then a serious piece of hardware, and as such will always perceived to be more successful as it has become ubiqitous, regardless of design and manufacturing faults, let alone some of the more puzzling design choices.
many comment on the sgs apparently flimsy and 'cheap' lightwieght plastics construction, however this to an extent will protect it from some of lifes accidental damages, whereas the incredible rigid and hard (brittle) glass casing of the iphone and its corresponding greater weight makes it more prone to being permanently damaged by dropping it

CAN I UPGRADE TO FROYO 2.2 WHEN RELEASED IF MY PHONE IS ON VODAFONE CONTRACT.
It always really confuses me if I need to wait for Vodafone to check froyo 2.2 then release there version or can I just download it from KIES when its released like everyone else.

I live in India and purchased my unit juz a couple of days back. I notice no lag whatsoever. Everything from tw3.0 to high-end games iz so fluid and seems to run so smooth (except a bit laggy samsung keyboard). I haven't checked the GPS thing as of yet, though.
DDJG4 is what reads my f/w version.

AT&T is pushing out a GPS fix for their branded version of the Galaxy.
"An update to improve the Samsung Captivate's GPS performance is now available. Captivate customers will receive a notification on their device that an update is available and will simply need to download the file to update their phone. The updates will be pushed to customers' devices over the next few weeks.
The update for the Captivate will also improve additional device functions, such as media scanning time, add the full version of Quickoffice and address Microsoft Exchange 2003 policy support."

Alui, 22 Sep 2010Too bad you did not read the comments on the phone page her... moreThe lag has nothing to do with the daily briefing app or other apps. It is due to the poor choice for the filesystem used by samsung (rfs) and slow internal memory.
There are many lagfixes involving changing the filesystem and moving data to faster microsdcards but they are pointless.. none is fully reliable after a long time... plus it makes no sense to pay 500€+ for something that needs a fix out of the box
Like I said, I've owned one and used it extensively for almost 1 month and then returned it at the end of the deadline. The lag was always present. As for the GPS, it is pathetic, either driver bug issues with the new broadcom chipset or perhaps it is hardware... but right now it is ridiculously bad.
See the many complains at the XDA foruns if you doubt this.
The nasty lag and the GPS problems turned this phone into a flop, no matter how well it sells.

If I was bullshitting, how come it says firmware 2.2 froyo on my phone, straight out of the box??? More over, how could I access flash sites without any hiccup??? If that ad up there is flash, well, I got it!!! All from out of the box samsung galaxy s, running on froyo!!! Without illegal hacks, mind you.
