Honestly, in recent years it's just become "cool" to hate on Nokia. In fairness, their handsets as of recent haven't been up to the calibre that Nokia was expected of back in the days of the N95. The subsequent N9* series handsets just haven't been as good, and in particular the N96 was actually worse than the N95, in terms of both software and hardware.
It doesn't help that Nokia are quite adamantly sticking to their guns with Symbian; their needless mudslinging towards Android is only hurting their reputation further as well. Symbian just isn't up to the task against the constantly-evolving Android platform, nor for that matter against iOS. However, that's not to say their handsets are BAD: they're just not as exciting in comparison to, say, the Desire HD, the Galaxy S or indeed the iPhone 4. The N8 probably isn't as bad as these reviews are making it out to be; it's just that they'll immediately accentuate the negative when it's being compared to the darlings of the mobile world.

I've been reading lots of reviews for N8 and I've lost pretty much all my trust for certain sites. There is amazing amounts of bias out there and people really need to start spending some attention to the sites they read their news from.
Gizmodo was certainly the worst. I mean they get a new N8, a great camera phone and the first and so far only article about it was that usability video that is obviously completely wrong. They didn't even post any kind of fix to it even though most comments pointed out the faults.

The Duke, 04 Oct 2010I've noticed that too on Engadget...The pictures of N8 look... moreexactly... it might be more sensible to compare n8 camera to satio or pixon, but iphone4's 5mpx? god, theres something behind it... essh

Guys don't forget about cnet's review, it too biased too. . actually by my examination so far, symbian^3 isn't bad at all, it may not be the best like the iphone or android but it's keeping up, lags or stuttering weren't like my 5530 XM or any other symbian^1, and cnet keeps saying that the user interface is hard to use on symbian ^3, I say WTF! !It's still symbian, meaning it's nature is really that is easier to use, it's just that they're not used to it till now. . Sure love how those iphone is easy to use, or that android being fun to use. . but I think symbian is just for people who want to get it straight to the point. . digs? maybe due to the history with the crappe symbian^1 they started hated it, and making it think that it should have never existed ever, but who knows. . but still disappointed with all those worthless journalists doing this, they keep looking at the bad side, and never even took a glance at what symbian^3 is capable :) (maybe those are isheep journalist or Roboid journalist who hated symbian and they're boss threatened them to review the new baby symbian^3 or they'll get fired or some sort) :))

Anonymous, 04 Oct 2010I would take all Eldar says these days with a grain of salt... morewhen i first saw the Edgar's review.. I seriously didn't want to believe it at first. I was telling myself, that unit might be just a prototype and probably waiting for firmware update. I had confident that Nokia would do something about the interface.
Right now, everything is finalized. The interface is still the same.. and still very outdated. They need to realize that user interface plays a very important role in winning the market. I hate to admit this, I'm anti Apple product, what more to say iphone4. However, u can't escape the fact that they did superbly well with the interface of iphone. Every single lil details of the design is carefully craved to optimize the interface of iphone. Their user interface is superb and smooth! but it does not change the fact that I still hate their marketing strategies and tactics. Money blood suckers =P

well i get why Eldar is doing this, but i really don't get is why on earth will Gizmodo join this sharade? wasn't their editor arrested and humiliadted by Apple?
well people are so shameless. i saw that post somedays back but i was just waiting for a place to vent and Gsmarena being a true critic provided me with that opportunity.
even a ten year old can tell that the shootout as well as the whole comparison was staged. but being honest i'm not in love with n8. i have no love for symbian touch os. until n9 comes out i'm keeping my n900. but that doesn't give me any right to disregard n8's camera capability and the beauty of the sleek metal unibody and also for the fist time ever so many vibrant color choices in metal on a premier smart phone. all commendable traits of this phone.
well Eldar might be right in the point that only Meego can be a savior for Nokia in terms of mobile os. let's see how good it will be. getting meego1.1 on october 10-12th in my n900, well judging from maemo it's going to be a cracker. eventhough it has its flaws but boy-oh-boy it's one of the; if not the most powerful os in the history of os s(only let down by nokia's lack of support).

Sure I disagree with the unfair judgment. But From my side I see that Nokia must give us a handset more than perfect.
We suffered a lot from Nokia handsets specially in the last period like N97 for example. So, if N8 is not as much good as we expect, I think Nokia will be in trouble.
Anyway, from my side I see that I can't say a final opinion now about it but actually I saw a lot of pictures has been taken by N8 camera and Iphone 4 and Samsung Pixon and I was disappointed from Nokia shoots as I saw that the colors was not good and the contrast was not good enough.
