Nokia N8 gets lots of stick in early reviews, we wonder why

03 October, 2010
The Nokia N8 started shipping this week and reviews of the Finnish company's latest flagship are spreading like wildfire. Checking out the first batch of those we noticed a certain trend, which we cannot...

The Nokia user looks retarded. He pauses with every key stroke and typing slow as f$#$!?!?? Why don't they get someone more experienced??

The video clearly shows that the person using Nokia N8 has no clue what to press. when using an email or taking a pic or etc u dont have to rotate the phone. one should be able to type in both directions. this proves that the websites dont want any new nokia phones as they dont want to loose their childish iphones and ugly bb's

Thank you GSMArena, you are the ONLY website that has no anti-Nokia bias concerning the N8. I don't know what the problem is there but it seems to me that the other websites are either a) paid by a certain manufacturer to give a negative review or b) do not want Nokia to succeed as a company. I suppose they all have become used to beating an old dead horse that doesn't kick back. Also it could be that the websites with negative reviews are USA-based, and as such feel that Nokia is a threat to American business. Lots of factors could be at the back of this. Anyway, this practice makes me sick and has lowered my opinion of those sites.
Thanks again GSMArena for being professional. I always enjoy your reviews and am looking forward for the N8 one.

Thank you nokia, for not giving in to the american go-ios-or-android-or-die whim.

To all who says symbian is dead, screw you. Your world!= whole world.

i've used many symbian phones, and even though they were somewhat slow i was wery happy with what i had, nokia n73 and n95 take great photos, and free mapping is great, there are many iphone lovers out there,i've never liked iphones, their dependence on itunes is just something i can't put up with, i wanna be able to plug my phone wherever i want without stupid restrictions, the lack of memory card slot and other SIMPLE features just turn me off, once, i owned an ipod touch, it was good until i threw some images at it,some optimized pics i like to carry on my cellphone,on a pc or most devices they take up about 100mb,but once i transfered them to my ipod,OVER 1.2gb,i was shocked, when i saw itunes "optimizing" my pictures, i never thought it would be doing just the opposit...another important point is price, i live in Mexico, and the iphone is always the MOST expensive model,by now iphone4 32gb is about $11,000 mexican pesos while n97 32gb is about $6,500,about half the price, and you get comparable cameras and pros for n97:expansion slot, free mapping software and maps that can be used everywhere and whithout data charges, hardware keyboard, full bluetooh(no crippled "handsfree and headphones only")standard ports, and some other minor features,to me the only advantage for iphone4 is the hi-def capacitive screen, some people may say it has thousands of apps, and that's true, but everybody knows 90% or more is just useless garbage, don't take me wrong i don't hate apple nor iphone, actually i find iphone4 very attractive,i just think it's VERY overpriced, many people use iphones as fashion accesories and use them more to show off than calling, and for that purpose, they work just fine,i'd take n8 or an android smartphone over iphone any day,
c'mon apple drop itunes, all those dumb restrictions, add a memory card slot and all those features phones costing 1/10 the price have and maybe i'll jump in...

            Option1:iphone4 (32gb)= $11,000

            Option2:ipod touch 32gb($4500),10mp digicam($1500), nokia 5230($1800), psp($2900)=$10,700

And you still have $300 to get stuffed with tacos

I don't know who in their right mind would go for option 1

In the video, the guy that was using the N8 either had down syndrome, or didn't have basic experience on using the N8, so the video is not reliable.

C'mon, just that iPhone lose to Samsung Galaxy S, u guys said GSMarena is bias to Samsung and against iPhone. I find their comparison to be fair enough, and people might disagree but c'mon grow up abit. U guys ask whether GSMarena is been paid by Samsung, u guys dun have any proof. The comparison between ip4 and Samsing Galaxy S made by GSMArena is really good and i agree most of it.

TYPING with Samsung Galaxy S now and I'm eager to get my hands on N8 since my 2 year old N82 is now dead. Really miss the camera button.

And if u r blind with the bias-ness made by engadget, gizmodo, eldar and other US Blog, please write at the end of your statement "......iPhone lover".

The video on gizmodo was made fake for N8 by slowing down and reRecorded and atached counter to cheat opinion, so check out how slow sweeming fingers move for N8 video compare to other two

keizka, 04 Oct 2010Where have you heard Nokia saying that N8 is a direct compe... moreReally? Does it need to come directly from the mouth of Kallasvuo for you to know that its a competitive device in the same market segment as the iphone/HTC Desire HD/Galaxy S/Motorola Droid 2? Lets see.... N8 = Nokia's most powerful device, costing in the range of $500-600... you're right. I don't see any direct competition.. My bad, just like how I mistook a Lexus IS250/350 to be in the same market segment as the BMW 3 Series, or an Audi A4.. They're all around the same price, they're all entry level sports luxury vehicle... However none of the CEO's went out and publicly said that its in the same market segment. I apologize. /sarcasm. Do you really think that the N8 isn't meant to fight for the same dollars that the iphone 4/HTC desire HD/Motorola Droid x/2? you're disillusioned. If the N8 wasn't made to be a competitive device against other smartphones they wouldn't need to load it with Symbian^3, because if it had no competition the it didn't need to impress. No need for the capacitive touch screen, they could've simply used the same resistive touch screen that they've been using in the N97/N900.

keizka, 04 Oct 2010Where have you heard Nokia saying that N8 is a direct compe... moreAlso, I was replying to earlier anonymous poster that accused Nokia of redressing the same hardware. So what? Why not if you can affect the price of the product by doing so? He just forgot that the hardware has slight changes. There's a reason Nokia has been profitable for a long time now. Never spoke a word about iPhone in the whole post, but you had to come and pick it up from nowhere, did you?

Feature phones... Hah. Yes, because devices that have either S60 3rd/5th ed or S^3 are clrearly feature phones. Not. That falls onto S40. But you can keep telling yourself that all those 5xx0 series phones are featurephones (Hint: they aren't).

Currently, admittedly, N8 is best Nokia has to offer until N9. But it is no flagship, except in Multimedia department.

The 64 Million dollar question is...

Why is GSMArena's reacting on how other sites had been handling the Nokia N8. To each his own...do your review and be done with it.

ShameOnNokia, 04 Oct 2010I guess you would rather go to allaboutsymbian or symbian-r... moreBut what about the engadget camera samples taken on the n8. There sure is something wrong with those photos. That is somewhat an enough proof that maybe, they have some slight biased. If they refuse to acknowledge it's advanced camera, what made you think they are capable of giving a fair thought on it's OS? You said it, s^3 is not yet fully established. But it seems that they didn't put that on account, while complaining on the most trivial of things, like finding the email client after drilling 2 menus. If they really want to see the email client on the main menu, he can do that, but intsead they settle in comparing how this phone should be like iphone or android in doing this and that.

They could've presented it as an opinion, and not a review. Because it didn't help anyone. Nokia fans or not.

They did not take someone not familiar with some other smart phone to show that the other smartphone sucked compared to the N8. I found that AAS's review was critical in some of the aspects of the N8.
