Nokia N8 gets lots of stick in early reviews, we wonder why

03 October, 2010
The Nokia N8 started shipping this week and reviews of the Finnish company's latest flagship are spreading like wildfire. Checking out the first batch of those we noticed a certain trend, which we cannot...

It looks like symbian has the lead in Europe while Android has it in US:
      http://theiphonefever.blogspot.com/2010/10/ios-becoming-globally-most-unpopular-os.html

Also no one is willing to adopt iOS on their devices, instead people try to bring android to iphone!

So far i've yet to find an unbiased review anywhere.

It's not as easy as just simply comparing the n8 to an iphone, the iphone has been pretty much the same for 4 years now, of course the guy using it is going to be faster considering that the n8 just came out of the box.

I'm hoping engadgets real review is done fairly, maybe that's what is taking them so long to get it done.

                      The Nokia N8’s camera has
                      been highly lauded by
                      both the Nokia community
                      and the wider tech
                      community.
There’s been lots of talk of
                      the powerful 12
                      megapixels / Xenon flash
                      combination, a pairing of
                      features that looks pretty
                      spec-tacular on paper.
                      But let’s be honest… what
                      you see on paper doesn’t
                      always tell the full story.
                      For example, a movie
                      enthusiast might take a
                      look at The Expendables
cast list and imagine it ’ll be
                      the best film ever made…
                      Some things aren’t as they
                      seem
                      The proof is in the
pudding, so it ’s just as well
then that the Nokia N8 has
                      been properly put through
its paces of late. A number
                      of posts have emerged of
                      late putting the new
                      Nseries device against
                      some pretty fierce
                      competition.
                      Vaibhav at The Handheld
Blog has done just that. He
                      explains: ‘You know what,
                      forget the iPhone. Lets put
                      the N8 up against some
                      serious firepower, a DSLR
which in this case is a 18
                      Megapixel Canon 550D,
                      fitted with the 18-55mm
                      kit lens.’
So how did the Nokia N8
                      fare?
                      Meanwhile, Sandeep at
                      Fone Arena has also posted
some pics of the Nokia N8
                      against a Canon model.
This time it ’s the Canon
                      IXUS 130…
Never one to be left out,
                      Jay has also been busy
                      with some insightful
                      comparison posts.
                      Yesterday he noted that
                      the-ultimate111 pitted the
                      N8 against a top Samsung
                      camera phone and a
                      Panasonic digital camera,
                      as well as *gasp* the
                      Nokia N82.
                      The results are interesting.

Absolutely amazing article and it's rare to find articles with such insights into how fair articles really are. As consumers, we look to reviews and quite often are influenced (if not properly informed) by them. I am thinking of buying the Nokia N8 but the reviews could have put me off.
This article has reminded me to look for how fair a test is. I've never been a Nokia person myself (the N8 would be my first Nokia), however, if you are reviewing the product, whether you like the company or not, the tests should be fair.
Thank you for taking the time out to write this article. I would love to read more articles like these.
P.s. To make Gizmodo's test even fairer they should have been done by one person as the one with the Nokia N8 does seem slower at typing etc than the other two (something I may not have noticed before reading the article).

I'll wait for meego and symbian 4 to see them prove themselves and provide symbian 4.5 and 5 to symbian 4 devices and meego 2 to meego 1 devices.

So far android has real flash 10.1, 30 FPS video rec and an excellent resolution compared to the N8.
And let's not forget, wayy more apps and updates, unlike nokia that will abandon N8 like they did with N900 once s4 comes out.

In fact, what ARE you talking about anyway? You can't port Android to Symbian, end of story. Also, the N8 is made out of anodized aluminium, the same internals carved into the expensive laptops out there. It also has a gorilla-glass screen, on the front, and as a camera lena protector on the back, so the hardware is good in that sense.

Lastly, stop comparing Android and Symbian like "all you need to do is take this RAM here and put it here". It doesn't work like that. They are designed ti handle internals in different ways. That's why the N8 doesn't require so much RAM or Ghz. Have you seen the scrolling through albums? It handles that with ease.

true, but if we talk about phones and not OS and you think android cannot work with n8, its just logical to say that symbian can work with android capable phones, that it is. so its not about the software at all, the hardware (ram, cpu, gpu, wlan, BATTERY, SAMOLED, speakers, camera with xenon or at least dual LED flash, form factor) is the foundation of a good phone...
