Nokia N8 gets better stills, 30 fps video with continuous autofocus

13 October, 2010
If you already checked the review, you would know that the Nokia N8 is the best cameraphone available by a wide margin. But it turns out that there's even more potential locked inside that smartphone...

It's pointless for a phone with a good camera & camcorder but immature OS & applications.Nokia should go & release Nokia handycam instead rather than spending millions in OS development with a so-so Symbian^3 interface.I'm very disappointed with Nokia & they're going down the drain if next generation OS doesn't surprise the world. No wonder their Finnish CEO resigns!

"Thanks for the review, GSMArena. I've made a decision based on the reviews so far, and finally including this one, that I am not buying the N8.

Symbian has a long long way to go, and the inability to play HD videos more than 2GB is just one of the bigger stumblings that I thought they wouldn't have a problem with. (The interface issues obviously number 1 reason.) The weaker flash seems to hurt it as well so I might just stick to my N82 for camera purposes while I use an Android for everything else.

Unfortunately Nokia is showing no signs of accelerating their OS development or even moving into Meego anytime soon. Even if they come out with a Meego in a year, imagine what iOS and Android looks like then? Imagine their App stores as well. Sadly, time to move on for me."

"Meego is Nokia's only saving grace for touchscreen devices. They should leave Symbian to non-touch. Sad to say, but only the camera was N8's selling point and not enough reason to lure me getting this phone. Next...."

2 user comments left here....this is what nokia needs to read!!!!
18mths ago this phone would have killed it, everyone wanted to have the best camera phone possible.. camera quality on 5mp shooters and higher for the majority is more than acceptable as technology improves

people want nice UI's, high res large screens, quick cpu's, apps and the ability to customize which nokia refuses to budge on. the whole camera race has come and gone... maybe nokia will learn with this one..
        maybe

I agree, this is awesome news. I'll just wait for hyperX to fix the bugs, there are one or two apparently. But I'm definitely getting this mod when it's 100% usable.

asdasd, 13 Oct 2010Does nokia aprove this?Being that the OS is (supposed to be) open source, I really don't think they care. If they do, they're stupid for not realizing that an open source OS is going to get a lot of attention from hackers. Who cares if they approve anyway... If I made the N97, I would be ashamed of it and wouldn't care how many hacks you put in it as long as it is improving it.

so basically this dude went to the trouble of buying the N8...
then hacked the camera, beta tested the hack for a few bit, published the hack for everyone, .. all that in few days..

y wouldnt Nokia do it themselves? and give us the option to choose between the 2 types of focus, and 25/30fps :S

+1 for hyperx.. symbian is rrly lucky to have this team

GSMarena! we are not apple users, who are extremely dumb, we are signing apps since years, and now it takes good 1 second for many of us to sign the app.

After all we are into to apps since almost 2003 and have some 225,000/- apps stores/blogs/websites all around the world.

I feel pity when you think Apple is number in apps and i disagree. You better mention a particular app which is not present in Symbian, then i will be convinced Apple's app store has advantage!
