Pity. Not a fan of screen protectors (spoil the look and smoothness of phones like the Note7) and I take care of my phones (never dropped one in my life), so actually prefer anti-scratch over anti-shock/drop. Why? Because everyday things and situations can cause a scratch, such as keys or other sharp objects on your desk touching your phone if you put it down upside down, or someone else playing with it who has long nails, or putting it into a pocket and having buttons or poppers on your pants or trousers scraping the screen.
Gorilla glass don't have any competition and I have never been that impressed with their tech, it's more hype and branding that anything else. If it is so good, why are most of the phones owned by young people I know cracked? With bike locks you get compensation from some lock makers if your bike is stolen. Likewise, Gorilla Glass company should offer to pay for repair as long as the damage was not intentional or unfair, such as phone being hit with a hammer. (Hard to prove I know.)

that's awful because note 7 has an S Pen input, and that means more prone to scratches too. best way is to buy a tempered glass though.

Now days with the added feature of protective glass film to stop scratching i believe that more focus on shatter proofing is the way to go.... cant have your cake and eat it too unfortunately. It has to be one or the other.

Karthik N, 18 Aug 2016I agree with you , but i have a small experience with tempe... moreIndeed. A 9H screen protector is brittle and more likely to break than most normal displays in themselves.
So it is a bit like an insurance. Do you want to pay a frequent fee (for broken protectors) to be more likely keep the primary display pristine.
Since there is a general correlation between brittle and hard, there are no perfect solutions here unfortunately. There is a reason why sapphires on watches are so thick - even if the surface area is much much smaller than on a phone/phablet.
I think the best we can hope for is that someone finds some sort of self-healing transparent material.

Tempered glasses are easily available in most the parts of the world where smart phones are available itself, also they are cheap enough, so if the TG breaks then it can be replaced but if the screen does then....(ouch!!) also tempered glasses are great...i have one on my iPhone and it has lasted for more than a year!!(yup a TG and a solid cover makes ur phone almost invincible! Also there is not even a single big scratch on it)...so all in all i feel that gorilla has done a fair enough and logical job.

Even gorilla glass 3 would handle this scratch resistance test way better. Very dissappointing !

Corning supposedly claimed that scratch resistance would be the same, this could have serious implications...

All gorilla glass is useless,it's a con, compared to decent quality chemical glass, gorilla is soft, shatters easily and appears to add very little to devices.A total waste of space and money..
