SDKforLumia, 05 Sep 2016I am not glad over there failure, but am glad for the reaso... moreYou think they are rushing their devices into the market to steal a larger share from Apple b4 the latter launches their phone in September?
Maybe but it's been a year since they've launched the Note5. Isn't 1 year long enough period to make upgrades to the previous model and have enough time to test it and produce large quantities of it?

They deserve it because they moved over to non-removable batteries since the Galaxy S6.

850€ for the phone is heartbreaking for me as well, so now Samsung is getting a taste of what I feel when they price their phone that high.

Dovice, 05 Sep 2016Who says they didn't test? There are 35 cases out of 1 mill... moreThey did not test enough - see results- why recall? I don't care what and how they done it but it was not cheap Chinese handset. I paid for 1st class device and expect quality and safety. Now when I sold my old one and this needs to be posted back I have to buy another temp one. The reason of buying this vs iPhone was just a camera 1.7
It is my second Samsung and the last one- believe I can claim my money back. We're in Europe not in Korea, sorry.

Anonymous, 05 Sep 2016since this phone is like 200$ to make and it sells for 1000... moreI think it costs more than 200$ to manufacture, they had a study on GSMarena b4 and I think the actual manufactue cost is between 30% to 40% of the selling price which is more than fair in my humble opinion☺.

I would love to know how many of those who bought the Note7 will actually wait for a unit replacement and not go for another model or even brand?

Well, only the batteries made by a specific producer are at risk. So if I happily have a phone without a faulty battery made by another supplier, why shouldn't I have the option not to return my phone? Why they don't let customers to check their serial number on Samsung website and simply don't return the phone if its OK? It's easier for most customers.

FC, 05 Sep 2016WOW! How much burned house is worth for them? Because lack ... moreWho says they didn't test? There are 35 cases out of 1 million devices. I have had countless electronic products I own catch fire, including a car voltage inverter from Maplin that caught fire in my car minutes after I purchased it whilst it was in use, within power usage limits. Same with other things, yet no press coverage. Samsung are being very honest and brave here and have acted ahead of industry or government pressure. Kudos when due? (I have no bias, I am currently using a Sony Xperia Z2 which is pretty nice, but planning to get a Note7.)

Reason for that fault will be interesting...

                                    Companies have insurance policies.
This will be a walk in park for Samsung and probably will recoup more from insurance payout than selling the units.

                                    Life's good.

I am not glad over there failure, but am glad for the reason that this way OEMs will learn their lesson. It is the hardest ever an OEM will learn it's lesson but it was long over due. Now they will at least know that "Me 1st" isn't the best thing by any means and won't guarantee you a better market grip in any way. LG with G3 suffered, then LG G5 and now Samsung Galaxy Note 7. I hope from now on, no OEM will try to throw their product into the market just for an earlier grip. You have to work out your product 100% before launching it. IPhone has always been launched in the beginning of 2nd week of September. Was ever their sales effected by any of Galaxy Note or any other LG early arrival? I don't think so. I am not saying Apple's products are perfectly flawless, but what I am trying to say is they don't rush their products into the market. Yes there are bugs and glitches, but those are mostly software issues which iPhone is fortunately so quick to solve, mostly due to the fact that they have to work on a single Software which runs merely on 2 devices running almost identical hardware.
Best of luck to Samsung and other OEMs who are doing extremely annoying and stupid things in the name of innovation.
