What's wrong with the stock ARM's Mali GPU ? It has always been very good and well integrated with the CPU in the SoC (from 4 to 16 cores if the MOE would dare).

But for now, I don't really think that there's any requirement of upgrading cpu or gpu cz a level has been achieved beyond which spec improvements are not visible in daily life. Ofcrz if u r planning to play GTA5 or Assassin's Creed then this collaboration is meant for you.

I'd take that report with a grain of salt. Current gen midgard GPUs can already achieve I/O concurrency with the ARMv8 cores, share the same address space and have direct access to the main cache.
Besides, what would be the point if using Pascal derivative a mobile SoC? A desktop-grade architecture with its dedicated complex units (eg tesselation and geometry stages) would take up much more transistors to implement and would be an unnecessary waste of die space which also translates into more power and heat issues, not to mention that it would rise of the TDP of the SoC.
People who claim that Mali is weak are ill-informed. It is one of the best scalable mobile architecture out there and the upcoming G71 promises a lot of improvements (TLP replacing ILP in particular). Samsung already has the largest T880 implementation out there and performs well against the competition.
Fun fact: Samsung had already developed their own in-house GPU back in 2008-2009, the latter was known internally as FIMG-3DSE and was used in some of Samsung's first Android phones. It was an ES1.x compliant part but was plagued by driver issues was ultimately abandoned. You don't simply 'develop' and roll out a GPU out of thin air in a couple of years, there is a lot of R&D, testing and conformance/compliance that goes along and Samsung isn't going down that road again. It just doesn't make sense from a technical perspective.

It is never OK for users if a company (in this case Q... more+1, Iphone has good success because apple has its own CPU, Os and the device itself, while android (lets say lg) has its own phone but a modified androidOs which is a huge problem and not their own CPU but Qualcomm which can manipulate everything. As u can see this happens with android Nougat and vulkan API. All snapdragon versions can easily support nougat, but qualcomm will not let earlier devices receive nougat cuz they "dont want to update their drivers for vulkan api" which makes people disapoonting.

Anyone remeber the Tegra K1? What a beast that still is. The Kepler GPU still has a lot of power. And the CPU still got really good single thread performance. Imagine what NVIDIA could make now.

Good stuff. Nvidia make the best mobile gpus so a deal there would be good for both Samsung and NVidia. But NVidia haven't made anything for the small form factor of a smartphone that's been decent though, so it would be interesting to see how it pans out.
