There are also other available wir... moreWhy I said the lightning earpods is a premature invention, because the connector's plug is not durable for frequently plug and play, just like insert a sim and pull out, the sim lastly will get scratches on the pins, in a course of time it will get loose.

The USB-c port is more versatile than the 3.5 mm jack, a company can create a headphone with a portable charger include. The only problem is Apple using its own port avoiding the 100% USB-c standard in every device.

I think the issue is that 3.5mm has been the standard for many years and nothing really better has been produced to replace it.
This change is not about space, or waterproofing or even the natural evolution of hardware, its all about Money, and a big finger to the end user. cheaper to make, cost more for users to use and greater device replacement due to failure in both the headphones and the phones.

When you are carrying some form or charger (car, mains, Battery) and the cable to connect to your phone then an additional adaptor/splitter make no real difference as it all can be bundled together.
I think the real issue for many is a degradation of audio quality, or huge cost increase to get the same as they had before.
In my mind its less about using one port for all then about loosing 3.5MM as a separate port. When HTC did it I just carried two additional adaptors. One from the USB to 3.5mm and one splitter with my charger pack. it was the USB to 3.5 that was annoying as stuck out the bottom, potentially causing more degradation of the usb port and increasing the risk of damage. and the audio quality did drop. and this was just to use my preferred headphones.

I remember the day long ago when apple was the first one who removed the " stylus pen" from smart phone! Every one was blamming or laughing !! And yep it is gone now and accepted!!
I think THIS also is a very strong and brave move from one company specially when all others stuck in old fashion connectivity still!

instead of removing...why dont we came with a new smaller port in order to slimmer on the upcoming smartphone.. it should be a new accepted smaller jack instead 3.5 mm which quite accepted on many phone nowadays..its a win win for everyone....

It is true that other companies has tried and they failed but the 3.5 mm jack will disappear in the near future but Apple did it wrong. With the use of fast-charging and wireless-charging the user will not miss the 3.5 mm jack in a couple of years and if the companies can improve the battery life it will be gone sooner. However the IPhone 7 has any of that.

Few people considered, or even realised, that the QUALITY of audio will be impacted by those dongles/adaptors. There's just no way a $9 adaptor can hold anywhere near a DAC of the quality that was built-in in the 6S & earlier. Volume levels taking a hit is just the tip of the iceberg. And the other proper option is to use wireless which introduces more radiation to our already heavily radiated brains & bodies. This isn't progress.

The argument of not being able to use the port for two things at once is a little redundant as when HTC removed 3.5 mm you could get one of these:

The main issue with Apple doing this is many people will just except it and move on, the consequence is many other companies will follow them. It's not just Apple owners that are sheep, Samsung, HTC, Sony, in fact all phone manufactures look to Apple and copy. it does work both ways round but something like this will take off as cheaper for the manufacture.
When HTC did it it annoyed me as a consumer it limited my choice of headphone not to the important factors such as sound quality and person deign preference but to what HTC deemed I should use.
I dont like ear buds, I prefer something on ear. its a personal choice but does limit what I use. this just limits it further (if i went apple).
Unfortunately this has been on the cards for some time. and as one other commentor said Sony has tried it, HTC has tried it. Companies want to go this route for some time. It looks like it is now the end of on-board 3.5 mm.
So anyone who cares about audio quality will just have to deal with either another thing to charge or carrying another adaptor/cable and the huge hike in price.

wireless means charging more stuff. and proprietary port means you have to be extra cautious while using the supplied set. if you break the wire 'accidentally' you gotta shell a 'premium'. ip7 now accidentally premium after so long being incidentally premium. shame Apple and others who might follow them

People will understand in the long run only.
Still, with so much open knowledge on this topic, I'm surprised this figure is 46% and not 70%..
People can be mighty fooled with marketing. What the hell is a digital audio?
Isn't it true that every speaker in the world requires analog signals only? Even recording studios use analog standards.
So, if your iPhones converts audio from digital to analog outside the phone and not inside it, where's the actual benefit??
And stop saying Samsung will copy this. Samsung has brains, ok?
Even Sony has brains, check what their website has to say about High res Audio. They say it will expand quality on basis of Lossless high res file which is 24 bit 192 Khz audio, and you will still have both options... Analog and Digital... in every Xperia phone.
These companies, Samsung and Sony, actually manufacture stuff and parts, unlike Apple which just assembles purchased components.
Sony and Samsung obviously have experts who research better... So why not trust them?

I've had my iPhone 7 for a bit over a week now and everything works well. I don't mind using the adaptor, but nothing being able to charge at the same time is a little annoying. But also, no major issues.

No matter what, the Android industry is slowly acquiring the removal of headphone jack.
Even Shamesung will soon remove headphone jack and go wireless. Just wait and watch, and that day shamesung fanboys won't kill themselves..
