    Anonymous, 10 Dec 2010Actually, think what you said... Android version history: ... moreThatrs great research but you missed one important fact. No one cares!

    Why the hell would i want a phone that cant even do mp3 ringtones without a jailbreak. Even if flash was the only major update, at least its there. Apple is in its own little bs bubble pretending flash is obsolete. I just watched an episode of true blood on my phone on the train. It was awesome, a boring episode, but the fact i had the option was awesome.

    Lastly, the iphone would be the ultimate communist phone. 1

        I haven't even seen 2.2 OTA update for my Vibrant yet and this is out? freaking T-mobile. How much different is it from the i9000, which got updated already?
        i hate how these updates got to go through manufactures and carriers. Google should make more nexus varieties so i can skip all these guys.

          Al, 10 Dec 2010Think about what you said ! The day there is an iPhone 6, y... moreActually, think what you said...
          Android version history: v1.6, v2.0, v2.1, v2.2 (all of these version only one major update (flash) came with v2.2)
          Some android phones expamle sucking version updates;
          1) Xperia X10 release March 2010 with v1.6, and updated to v2.1 (still existing v2.2) not v2.2 at Novamber 2010 (8 months later) and still suck with flash support... X10 dead...
          2) Galaxy S updated to v2.2 months later again... According to Samsung's explanation update to v2.3 will be researched for performance criteria... Just Samsung tell lie to Galaxy S owners..
          Neither google nor samsung wont allow to update v2.3 to Galaxy S, because Nexus S sales will drop if Galaxy S updated to v2.3.
          Just sales politic... Galaxy S dead...
          3) HTC made 6 different WP7 OS running phones in one month which indicate continue with WP7 more than android...
          Lastly, iOS update history;

          for all iphone modes (except 1g, 2g)
          no iphone 5 or 6 exist made by Apple now, may be chinese phones exist :)
          even if iphone 5,6,7 would made by Apple in 2-3 years, still iphone 4 gets updates of ios major releases due to its powerfull hardware...

              I have owned a few samsungs in the past and this is just another of their lack of support to their customers. They have done it with all of their 'flag ship' phones in the past as well.

              Looky like sh!tty samsung might be forcing their customers to take the path of customs roms once again......

                  i believe no matter how bad one messes up, there's always a way to clean stuff up; the main problem with android is the open source and fragmented nature, HTC, Samsung, Lg and SE have their own UIs for their android phones, they take time to tweak and put their UI on the android os, which delays the update even further. What i believe is a pretty good solution to this mess, when google comes up with a new version, just give your customers the vanilla version till the time you're working with your respective UIs. For ex. google launches froyo and SE releases X10 with 1.6! and then comes up with a 2.1 upgrade around 4 months later, what they shoudl've done is release a 2.1 vanilla update for their customers till the time they were working with their UI integration. In this way you dont lose your customers and they dont make people dont talk about how outdated you are. Doesnt this make sense?

                      I was really thinking about getting a Galaxy S, but I won't anymore, I don't want to buy an Android device and expect the mercy of the companies to keep it updated. even Apple respect more its costumers.
                      I'll stick with the outdated and ugly Symbian, thanks.

                        Android will always be that mess, they won't update Galaxy S because that would make Nexus S useless. Say what you want about Symbian experience, but at least Nokia respect its costumers, my Nokia 5800 more than 2 years on the market and still receiving major updates. Galaxy S is here for some months and Samsung is abandoning it already.

                                        i think that the os is not the problem with modern phones,but rather the hardware. nowadays, manufacturers change their flagships way too often. the galaxy s was samsung's top dog for less than six months.now they rolled out the nexus s and now the i9100 is already in the works.
                                        and the way they roll out updates is peculiar to say the least...the new model could come with new features but lacks some of the old features of the last one(worse screen technology for example)
                                        a couple of years ago,one could buy the n95,or the samsung omnia or other flagships and the phone remained contemporary for at least a year. and when you really look at it,there's not that much of a difference between an n95 or an omnia and modern flagships.
                                        bottomline,phone manufacturers are selling the same old products in prettier packages and "making" you upgrade your phone way too often. i wouldn't chabge my phone just for an amoled screen or for a usb otg plug or in order to have 3d google maps and worse of all, worse aerials (htc,apple, even nokia and samsung have worse aerials,with higher sar levels and worse signal reception than their older models:tested with an n73 vs an 5230, n97, galaxy s).
                                        stop playing their games...just hold on to your handset for as long as you can. this way, maybe they will be less inclined to offer us useless new features and better "old" features..
