I say, android users will lose their reputation if you guys couldn't figure this out yourselves. Android is open source, as you guys always brag about. So there. Why don't you users make use of that awesome openness and freedom of android and update your phones yourselves. Or are you android users just good at bragging and don't really have the know how to create updates and customize coding. But don't you guys claim that you're smarter than the rest that's why you prefer the open source android?

lets face it nobody can honestly expect samsung to release 2.3 for the galaxy s when they've been ridiculously slow to release 2.2 alone for the galaxy s. Htc had desire on froyo since august, samsung was finally releasing it in late november. Expect gingerbread if at all on the galaxy s in q2 2011

I dont understand: why people are so hungry for updates?? Froyo works just fine dont it? So, why bother?? The old phones only were updated if there were problems. If froyo works fine I dont even bother! Froyo only has some months! Wake up! How many ios updates were released in 3 years???! I'm just fine with android! Hate those capitalists of apple and windows!

But didn't android users boast that they are smart and that the android os is very open? So why can't they just tweak everything to their desired settings. Come on android users, make use of android's open platform and create your own updates. While you're at it, why don't you guys create your own personal apps :)

Honestly there is no reason why it shouldn't get 2.3 especially when the Nexus One is getting it. If they don't update then it is unfortunate for the Galaxy owners but this will hurt Samsung down the line which should matter a great deal. Android is still maturing and within a year or two those who can't compete and don't give the customers what they want will be weeded out. I guess the best choice are Nexus phones so if I buy a next Android phone it will be a Nexus model. Hopefully they will continue to make them.

There is something messed up with Android. If old phones can upgrade to the latest OS, then what is the incentive for people who have the likes of galaxy S to upgrade their phone?
Because the galaxy S is still a beast, and it will have to take something special for samsung to beat it, such as metalic frame + all the features of galaxy S + flash.
I dont see samsung doing that anytime soon

If Samsung don't release this for the Galaxy S then their reputation in my opinion will have diminished all together. What a low act it would be, ensuring you were behind every other Android device they bring out here forth. My next purchase would most definitely be somewhere else other than Samsung or Noka (who I've also had terrible experiences with).

Most likely the Desire, Desire Z and Desire HD.

It takes about 30 mins to read the steps to follow for installing Froyo and do the actual instal from xdev. Samsung sucks on customer support, but hey, the Odin Froyo is great. The best revenge against Samsung is not to buy their products as new. Better buy a second hand SGS(and do the update manually) than buy Nexus S.

People may hate apple/windows but google have set manufacturers up to butcher their os, that expensive smartphone you just tied yourself into a 2 year contract with? Outdated within 6 months?

If you take a snapshot of android it looks great, but over the long run i think we can all agree ios is better long term, symbian is good too (not owned a high end nokia so cant comment) glad I jumped ship from my Desire to iPhone 4, so much happier with it.
