Anonymous, 02 Nov 2016Xperia XZ is not expensive compare to iPhone 7 and Samsung ... moreI am a Sony fan and I will admit the OnePlus 3 is better than the XZ for the price. In speed tests, it lives up to the XZ, RAM management and amount of RAM is better than the XZ (even with Smart Cleaner turned off), display gets as bright as the XZ but the colors are more accurate, the black levels are deeper, the refresh rate is higher, and the latency is lower cuz its an AMOLED. Sony just doesn't make great phones anymore. Let's just hope they bring back the excitement and wow factor into their 2017 flagships or sales will continue to decline and get closer to 0. They cannot keep overpricing without adding better specs and better software. I am a Z3 owner and I occasionally suffer from overheating issues if I use my phone for more than 10 minutes and it overheats really fast while recording video. Z3 was the last best phone that Sony made and the XZ is great too, however, their pricing is just terrible and they know that very well. If Sony keeps this up, by 2019 they will lose too many sales and too much market share. Unfortunately Samsung phones have much better specs and they have stepped their game up in software, its only a matter of time before Samsung cannibalizes Xperia sales. My fear is Galaxy S8 will suck Xperia fans (not fanboys) away with all the sensors and ahead of market tech they will include. The S7 reaches a full 1000 nits out in sunlight while the XZ reaches maximum 750 nits. Also the S7's AMOLED display is unpolarized while the XZ's releases polarized light, that does not make for good sunlight viewing. 2900mAh battery in a phone that is wider, fatter, and taller than the S7 with 3000mAh. The S7 has waterproofing too and louder, clearer speakers with smaller bezels, a smaller and thinner body. I see 0 reasons why the Sony Xperia XZ is better than the Galaxy S7, the S7 Edge just widens the gap with the XZ even further.

SONY is a nice device.compare to other devices it has a premium features for every entertainment like ..Trilluminus Display..Hi Resolution Audio..Suit for PS gaming and a better battery too.. I love this BEAST.

Sony has gone bonkers, I don't know how much trillions they have that they can just produce average to below average phones year after year, and yet stay afloat in mobile industry.

I really like Sony phones. Their software is 2nd best next to stock Android, IMO. Too bad their cameras are lackluster. Only recently they've improved their front cameras but their back cameras are still inferior compared to the competition. However, I have to give kudos to their software video stabilization... The best in the market.

AnonD-65736, 02 Nov 2016Sony lacks the "Wow" factor justifying their prices. $70... moreYeah, they literally don't have anything special to actually be worth of the high asking price. This has been their problem for a long time already. I almost thought I'd get the Z2 when it was released, but the in-store testing gave me the feeling I would regret the purchase so I went for other device... Which happened to be a overpriced piece of a aluminum.

By the way, you should clear your bio-data of your favorite phone like some other trolls do.

"Sony lacks the "Wow" factor justifying their prices.

$700 is too much considering they make the camera modules most companies use but are rarely the best at using them, and given that they rarely bring any real hardware or software innovation to compensate like Samsung or LG do..."

I share the same opinion. Nothing makes the xperias stand out. Their design has always been the same (boring) one and their hardware has never really been better than competitors. Only their software is arguably more polished than most Androids. It's hardly enough when you arrive late at the party and with so little advertising.

I really don't like these kind of people, they said Sony expensive but never refer to the most expensive flagships like Samsung & Apple, but they dare to compare with some China cheap phones maker, this is very unfair to Sony. I find this kind of people as a ghostwriters coming from the competitors, but they well never admit it.

soon, disney will buy out sony

Their pricing is the reason for their decline. If the R&D cost per handset is about $250 a phone, it would be only $85 a phone if they sold 3x as many phones. Everyone buys Xperia phones when the price goes under $450. If the BOM (Bill of Materials) is about $250 per phone and the R&D/logistics cost is about $100 a phone, the cost becomes about $400 after imports. If they sold their premium X/Z flagships at around $450, they would be selling almost 3x as many phones and also making $50 a phone as opposed to the $10 a phone they are making now. If the Japanese yen weakens, Sony's mobile division will once again become lossy. Sony mobile doesn't even focus on hardware innovation anymore either, they are using the same sensor as the Z5 in the XZ and the camera software has not even improved much at all. Even the lack of 4GB RAM and a larger 5.5" 1440p model makes for a lot of lost sales and competitiveness. Sony also doesn't even have an organized cycle in which they relase flagships, they release random Premium/+/Ultra flagships and have random naming schemes which confuse consumers. They should be focusing all their R&D and efforts to 1 flagship a year, then they can make that phone much more competitive. If they don't add atleast 6GB of RAM (like the OnePlus), include a 5.5" 1440p (or a 4K variant would be even better) variant, a minimum 3200mAh battery for the 5.2" 1080p variant, a dual cam with a completely new sensor and software, and UFS 2.0 memory. If they sold Xperia flagships at $450-500 at launch with highest end specs, they could sell twice as many phones and make a big profit.

Sony's current lineup is plagued with strange design decisions.

Xperia XA: Small battery, weak speaker, few sensors, low ram
XA Ultra: Small battery, no OIS on main camera, few sensors
X: Weak specs for the price, small battery, no water resistance, no OIS
X Performance: No OIS, small battery, low ram
                                      XZ: No OIS, low ram

And there's the thing where Sony disables the fingerprint sensor for NA

Sony is in a bind. They cannot compete against iPhone and Samsung Galaxy in the high end market but neither can they compete in the mid range market because the Chinese makers like Huawei xiaomi oppo literally control that area. Sony even tried to sell mid range phone with premium price but failed miserably and only isolated or disappointed many of their fans.
