Apple officially the endangered species in smartphone operating system world. They are obviously dying yet all the isheep gonna comeback here putting up links for unproven data showing IOS is getting larger and increased in users. They gonna put up some lame excuses here and there and claim this data by gsmarena is fake. Counter attack in 1, 2, 3...

Sailfish OS is the best operating system I have ever used to date, most original and practical OS. Android, no doubt is very good OS due to its features though not a fan of stock Android but the main problem with Android is that it isn't a clean OS- too many junk and copied apps in play store, comes with a lot of Google apps which are adwares except a few, not good optimised, battery hog etc. When every manufacturer is churning out Android phones, no surprise it has that much market share.

GVera, 03 Nov 2016Not in the US, but globally Apple has 40% of the high end s... morekey word "high end"... just so u can exclude all the mid-range android phones out there (and there're a lot) guys, this is just stats... meaning there're more phone being made with android than anything else, it doesnt mean it's necesarily better (although i love my A5 2016)
if u like IOS, that's fine, keep it and know that ur share of the world-wide phones is 12.1% and same with WP (though ur stuck with "others" then) still nice info but it's not truly something to brag about, most ppl have either one or two phones so why would it matter (to a single person) if his/her share is high or low, just be happ with what u get ^_^

I remember I had a jailbreaked ipod touch when I first got my hands on HTC Desire when it was released. First android experience. The next day I bought one and I freaked out to see how advanced it was over iOS. This was in 2010 I think. Since then, Android grew and changed so much! And it does every day. While iOS can barely follow.
Even though I'm not an apple fan, I don't want them to dissappear cos it's always better to have tough competition. This only makes Android phones to get even better. But stating that the iPhone is the best smartphone out there is simply rubbish. Sure, it does it's job, but as a tech person, when I see those bland white menus, non-customisable interface it makes me throw it to the wall.
I usually make my own ROMs, choose what system apps to have or not, fonts, bootanimations, disable ads, change resolution DPI, overclock the processor, partition the SD card, USB OTG, USB stick mode and much much more.
While on iOS you can only brag what app u bought. Don't even get me started with that horrible iTunes sheet. Also, if you jailbreak the iPhone it will only get laggy and unstable. On Android, it only gets a LOT better if you root it.
I guess that for a normal person iOS will do it's job - Facebook, instagram bla bla bla but that's it. No advanced things, nothing. I'm too smart to use an iPhone..
The 6S Plus in my drawer gathering dust will probably face one horrible death that I'll probably post on YouTube to make some ifans go loco :))
Maybe 7 years ago I was into iPhone too, when Symbian was the king and Android only a baby, but today I wouldn't use an iPhone even if they payed me.
Still waiting suggestions for the iPhone's death: I was thinking of attaching it to a small firework rocket and blow it into the sky :D
By the rithm things are going, in 3-4 years iPhone will be like windows mobile today. Slowly dying.

And indeed, I've played with Android in every possible way (custom fonts, launchers) for I am a UI designer and I like things to look nice, but I should not be required to do that in order to have a decent-looking UI on a device that I've paid money for. Not to mention that customizing the UI does not get rid of the generally unorganized menus and submenus.

Android is open source, yes, and that has some obvious drawbacks - but I, as a user, should not care if it's open source or not. All I need to care for is if the system is secure or not, no matter the reason why.

Android has everything that iOS has. But iOS is very limited. Totally Apple makes its OS and hardware much limited and restricted. Android is much user friendly and has much hardware options though it has those drawbacks like people saying here. At the end android does everything we want to do instantly without extra efforts.. At least android can do what iOS can't.

In fact I'm typing on it right now. Works fine. Has the September 2016 security update, lollipop, custom ROM. A little slow when switching apps, but the keyboard and the apps run smooth.

Much better use and security than any crappy windows device. I mean, this device was crappy when it came out, and to be honest it runs better now than it did back when I first got it. Any half decent device would run better than this, even though the only problem with this is that switching apps isn't buttery smooth like my s7.
