Nokia N900 gets a Gingerbread port, Nexus One stares in disbelief

24 December, 2010
Add the Nokia N900 to the short list of devices running the latest iteration of the Android OS – 2.3 Gingerbread. The last of the Maemo kind just got an unofficial ROM that, while not perfectly stable, proves that a...

Shouldn't be too long before Nokia officially jump the Android bandwagon. Maemo is dumped, MeeGo is getting expensive, Symbian is getting older and losing share but Nokia is always prepared to improvise. N900 was always a good piece of hardware with F**kall software. Now people who believed in Nokia are in for a treat. I'll buy the phone dirt cheap now and reflash with gingerbread. Beware Samsungs and HTC's mother's comin to the cooking competition !

Do you really think everybody here uses stuff just because they are fanboys? I work all month and in the end I like to spend money in gadgets, some are worthless others are awesome, and I actually like android but in a different context and for a different use... I already tried all the mobile operative systems around and I can guarantee that the N900 has the most computer like experience, when I travel and can't take a pc with me I always leave my android phone and take the N900, is wonderful for browsing and email... And if you didn't tried it you shouldn't be here just saying stuff randomly, facts are different from fiction...

Again people are just talking out of thier backsides and trolling because of thier resentment to Nokia and most lkikely have never owned an n900. I am subject to listening to the other side of the argument but yours and the gentleman below are very one sided arguments which are very pro-htc and anti-nokia. only on gsmarena will you find a haven of android fanboys from India or Russia who know very little about the actual OS itself, claiming they know all about Android and then go onto say Nokia sucks because they think it is sore sort of popularity contest with thier heads stuck in a 2005 period. Newsflash, Nokia isn't the one you should be resenting now, Apple is for nicking ideas and then claiming to the dumbfounded masses it is

i think u should use one and then open your mouth.1 n900 is the most computerlike phone because yoy can install anything you want on it iven windos pc version.2 on symbian you dont need 1ghz processor to run as fast as I9000 or iphone.and iven if you install other os's on the n900 like android it still runs faster than the samsung I9000(check youtube for proof)because it doesnt matter iven if you have i7 on your mobile if its not used eficiently.and finally 3 you can use gsmarena to compere the functions of phones, just do it and im sure u wont find a phone that has more functions than the N8 and im not talking about rams and stuff like that because as i told you before on simbyan you dont need so much resourses as on other os's

Fact´s show oposit . Nokia is known for low screen resolution , small CPU + RAM . touch phones from Nokia have poor battery life after 1 month . i know there are many who love Iphones , but i cant say something for them cause i never had 1 Iphone , but i used Nokia before . right now i have HTC , HTC make best smart phones today , is really High quality and is perfect working . in my HTC HD2 i have WM 6.5 , WP7 TRIAL on SPB MOBILE SHELL + ANDROID 2.2 and is working super fast . next time i will go for LG OPTIMUS 2X is super fast . so tell me, what did Nokia ? N8 cant compare with these phones or else is CRIME .

I always wonder how many people consider themselves experts on display tech and think capacitive displays are so much better. The truth is that while both techs have their advantages, I would prefer resistive over capacitive.

Only real problem with current resistive displays is the lack of multitouch. However I think that we will be seeing resistive multitouch displays within a year.

Here is an awesome example of the strengths of N900 resistive display...
