      USB C can, with the right charger, supply up to 20V at 5A. If the knock off cables do not have the right connections inside, that voltage can go into the phone without it being ready for it.

      If LG had done their homework they would protect against this with a resettable circuit, but it is early days for USB C. At least they have protected against the big fireball if the voltage had reached the battery.

        Tourettes Guy, 20 Dec 2016Samsung also suffered once with that, maybe more often than... moreWell in my case its probably cos i put too much expectations from sony to deliver top notch products without fail, and in case of samsung i am satisfied if the device turns on properly..hehe..and talking about sony their flagships are glass sandwiches so they should be more careful

            Cheap/damaged cables can cause many issues, it is plausible. The cable can have a shorted connection, causing voltage variations going to the phone...a faulty or bad pin in the connector can cause arcing in the port, damaging internals. etc.

            If it becomes a major issue like on the G4, LG will most likely warranty address it, otherwise, it is still plausible that this explanation is it, or it is a small enough percentile to still be considered isolated defects. (There is still the chance of false claims too). I am by no means stating that either side is correct, only giving perspective on the issue.

                    Anonymous, 20 Dec 2016How to epxerience the bootloop on a 3 years old G2 ? Anyone... moreMy 3 year old G2 has enough problems already, it doesn't need boot loop.
                    -Screen is very prone to crack (maybe because of the thin bezels);
                    -Camera is great for landscape photography due to the OIS but absolutely rubbish for any moving objects due to long exposure settings;
                    -Absolutely impossible to use keyboard (very badly designed);
                    -Not so good antennas (all of them);
                    -The sim ejector tool is a nightmare, I can't tell you how many times I needed to change sim or sim got disconnected and needed to remove and re insert it and couldn't because of the lack of a ejector tool);
                    -Phone is very, very slippery and tends to fall and break.
                    -Firmware is full of rubbish and bloatware.
                    -No USB msc, just mtp;
                    -small memory;
                    -Little and late updates.
                    -proprietary mhl protocol or whatever it is called.
                    After this very bad experience (the phone is still working but at a heavy cost) I hear people complain even more about the g3,4 and 5 and V10, 20... What I have learn from this? Never buy an LG phone against.

                      Life's Not Good. with LG phones i have also lost LG G2, LG G4

                      now advice to all not to buy LG anymore

                          AnonD-229512, 20 Dec 2016LG G3, G4, N5X, now V20 got the bootloop. LololololIt is unfortunate.. I stopped getting LG phones after I heard about the G4 bootlooping. I had a G4 and sold it before it could bootloop. LG just isn't capable of fixing their phones. They have other issues as well.

                            Seriously, LG....

                            Cause of bootloop is known (at least of previous models) and it is some issues with soldering machines used in production of phones. It has nothing to do with usb cables.

                            If v20 is also victim of bootloops, then something is not right with LG in general. They should fixed all this by now already.

                            Google G4 bootloop on reddit, you will see tons of ppl still having issues.

                                  Don't buy LG, save yourself the headache of mailing your device in for repairs and be left with no phone for days or weeks.

                                      I know it would annoy some people, but I'd rather my phone told me 'You're using an un-official charger'

                                      Even some big brands get caught with fake chargers, I'd like to be able to take mine back and show them it's un-official if I'm paying the price of an official one
