HTC U Ultra is now official: Sapphire glass, Snapdragon 821, 5.7" QHD display

12 January 2017
UareU is one catchy slogan, but we tend to like our 3.5mm jacks - none to be found on the Ultra.

Huh? What? Body like S7, Second screen like V20 and no headphone jack like iPhone 7. What kind of abomination is this?

Been with HTC for about 10 years, but after seeing this cr*p looks like its time to look elsewhere. Bad move on HTC's part.....why would you go backwards when all other companies are showing off their tech???!!!

To me it looks like a less polished version of the galaxy S7 edge. Good luck HTC.

Can anyone explain why you would have a nice metal unibody design and cover it up with "glass" to give a cheap plastic look?

That is one thing that HTC had on everybody else for a long time was their excellent metal design.

HTC, you disappointed again. I don't mind the 3.5mm jack gone, since I only use BT earphones, but a flagship device with a QHD display with a 3,000 mAh battery, SD821 and those ugly front capacitive buttons? Meh. You just keep on falling and falling, HTC. Sad.

Lord Bayron, 12 Jan 2017to be honest I have to admit thi is a good looking phone...... morean experiment in what exactly? HTC has a device...copying LG's secondary ticker display...design cues from Samsung and apple...a SoC that is quickly becoming outdated and no longer flagship worthy...removal of the 3.5mm jack (which as you said was normally to increase space for a battery) and no larger battery or anything (apple at least had their W1 chip for better Bluetooth as well as a bigger battery...Motorola had modularity) to replace it....there is Nothing compelling about this device other than another "Assistant" rehash...nothing justifies the $749 USD price tag.

to be honest I have to admit thi is a good looking phone...I am little dissapointed when we have 3000 mAh on a phone with 5.7' QHD display (when Pixel XL has 3420 mAh) and no frontfacing boomsound speakers, no waterproofing...about the 3,5 mm jack I have to admit that i personaly don't like the way this all goes...a lot of extremely good headphones like Audiotechnica naw have to addapt for a bluetooth option...on the other hand no more problems with the wires which is a huge + for me...Apple diched the 3,5 mm to find more space for battery, alos reading about phones with 7,88 mm thicknes and 5000 mAh batteries which kind of me+akes me ask myself why other, much more expensive competitors like Samsung, LG and so on do the same thing....because the combination of 5000+mAh battey and a good, clean and powersaving software the phone could last for 2/3 days without the problem...alos don't understand why people intentionally bring HTC down with such comments like Apple/Samsung/LG copycat? most of you guys describe the perfect 2016 phone like combination of LG v20, Samsung Galaxy Note7 with boomsound frontfacing speakers and much larger battery (4500 mAh+), obviously they're trying to get over some Samsung fans to their side and I agre the timing isn't good enough, howerver think of it like a experiment...we still have to wait and see the hands-on review and run some tests....even with all these minuses, I have to admit that I'd like to have that phone for some time

Wow an ugly copy of note 5 with V20 specs great job htc you nailed it

$749!?....for a device that is already outclassed or will be outclassed literally a month after release in almost every way...HTC needs to clean house.

Looks really great, but that's it. HTC have a terrible habit these days of making a great looking device but severely lacking in features. :(

I think now it's obvious that HTC management must be fired. Not only madam, but the whole team of high management. I have already said that after HTC A9 which to be honest was much better balanced device than these "U"s but was just overpriced and equipped with low capacity battery. However, management is still in place and now makes even more mistakes than they have done with A9. These guys are killing company with such dead on arrival devices.
It's really sad for me to see all this crap going on with company. Looks like HTC 10 is the last excellent device from HTC and the only one I could consider for purchasing to myself and others.

dexterouz, 12 Jan 2017Yes, the camera at the right corner is also Apple design. R... more.. And it has a screen, makes phone calls and you can send messages.. All Apple design traits.
