Nokia’s first MeeGo device, N9, dropped before it's even official?

10 February, 2011
The rumored Nokia N9 may never get to see public light, says Reuters based on industry sources. Nokia refuses to comment the matter so this still isn't official. The Finns are all over the headlines these days...

Jon2, 10 Feb 2011The only thing Nokia really needs to change is the UI. I... moreare you kidding me? its nowhere as intuitive to use as the iOS. More stpes to get one thing done. Clukcy UI, not unified. Horrible apps in comparison. Symbian will be dead.

Isn't that what Apple does? have you ever seen an iPhone Ad where it says Face time or whatever they call is only over Wi-Fi? no so when people buy it they are stuck with it, have they ever said that all those apps they show on ads have to be paid for? NO!
It's called false advertising my friend.
Nokia tells you free GPS with navigation, and you do get it, Email Client and you do get it. Strong Build and you do get it, Superior camera for N8 and you do get it. HD games and you get them Some for free, NFS and Gold and many others for a small fee.
This is what I'm talking about. You'd rather have you customer know what they are getting before they buy it.

AnonD-112, 11 Feb 2011That's what should be done. Advertising for Nokia in Austra... moreSpeaking of advertising by the almighty brand, in HK the company probably spends more advertising $ than anyone else, including iphones.

Indeed it even exposed its own weakness. For example, in one of the latest TV commercial for N8, it showed a guy touched the browser icon and it took the phone about 3 seconds to respond. Feedback from most viewers was "why so slow?"

It "tried" to promote how most of its phones can download apps thru OVI store. However, in reality most media...from tech magazines to shopping malls and other businesses, would only promote "we have these apps for iphone / Android".

Symbian? Most are trying to get rid of them.

[deleted post]I'm not in denial, Nokia needs to renew their UI. The OS is perfect it's just the Eye Candy UI that somehow sucks. Other then that Nokia is doing just fine. Just need to do some changes, but adopting WM7, Android or IOS (impossible) will be a bad choice.

Nokia is very popular and if they do the same what Apple is doing they will sell more. It's a marketing strategy, only if you knew anything about Marketing.

I will soon enough be apply to Nokia Australia, and see how I go. Would love to be a part of their team even if it's just an I.T support in an underground office. :)

But wait a minute, i thought Nokia fanboys have been saying that Nokia has the highest "interest ratings" and is the most viewed handsets. Still, they need to advertise more, lol.

i think this is totally bulls#¡+...how the hell is nokia dropping meego or any phone with this platform?, is completely nonsense switching to WP7, come on!!!, how many people are using WP7?, and how many are using symbian. Even symbian 3 has managed to sell 3 times more phones in less time than WP7 (symbian 3 has 3 models, and nokia n8 began shippings on novemeber, and WP7 has like 15 models, and shippings began be4 november), it's totally ridiculous. If they switch to WP7 and ditch symbian and meego it really would be the end for nokia, that should be catastrophic!!!, I certainly and inmediately would change to an iPhone. Nokia is unique, it sets trends, and tech milestones, and that's how it must remain. They under any circumstances should never change their platform, it would be the end, many users and nokia fanboys will hate nokia (me included), and will never again buy a nokia phone if that happens. I'm really upset

Things have changed there is way too many competition now. and they need to act fast, especially when it comes to noobs, who only go for apps or CPU speed and size of RAM.

AnonD-171, 10 Feb 2011no it's not WP7 will just bring nokia down since WP7 is... moreWhy would they drop Symbian that has over 40,000 apps and go for WM7 which has around 5,000 apps?
If it's apps what people are after WM7 FAILS! It has too many limitation as well.
Nokia Will NEVER EVER go with WM7.

AnonD-171, 10 Feb 2011 if i where the new CEO i would - push Qt like mad ...... moreThat's what should be done. Advertising for Nokia in Australia is very POOR! I see Iphone wall posts everywhere, Ads on TV, Mobile providers always having iPhone this Iphone that on their front window. Same goes for Samsung.

When the N8 was released it was up on the window (small tiny poster for couple of days) and then was removed. While the iPhone 4 is still up till now.

Australia Mobile Market is expanding like crazy, they had statistics on TV the other day as below:

                              Year 200:
                              Land Lines; 7.2 million
                              Mobiles: 2.4 millions.

                              Year 2010:
                              Land Lines: 7.4 Million.
                              Mobiles: 24.2 Million.

and it is still growing. Nokia should target these countries more. have more TV ads, marketing campaigns, hold events and things like that.
People in Australia are a bit like the US, they listen way too much to the media and what it tells them to do. So Nokia needs to TELL PEOPLE to go and buy their products like Apple does.
