Most people who commented here saying "bye bye Nokia, I won't buy your phone again" or something around those line didn't realize that they means nothing compared to those who bought the phone just because it's NOKIA. Most Nokia users don't even care what OS they were using.
And people who still said Symbian is a good OS, they definitely too scared to try something like Android, or can't afford to buy an iPhone.
Symbian WAS good OS, but after Apple kicked in the Smartphone market, everything had changed. Google realized it, Samsung realized it, even Microsoft realized it, everyone realized it, except Nokia.
But now finally Nokia has come to it's sense and do the right thing. Great job Nokia.

Did you all read the news about 1000+ Nokia employees walked out of their office in the headquarters? Report says they all worked in the Symbian department. HAHAHA. These are the people that cause the downfall of Nokia for the past 5 years! They had over 1000 people working on Symbian for so many years and it still suck. Nokia should just say "please close the door on your way out."
This is a good move. If Nokia kept going with Symbian, all their smartphones will eventually be consider dumbphones. In today's standards, Symbian just doesn't cut it anymore.

abhi, 11 Feb 2011Who failed to innovate? Was it the employees, or management... moreAgreed. Long before Symbian, handphones and PDAs there was Psion, a beautifully crafted device in the 90s with its unique OS, that was superb in every way for businesses and industrial apps, multitasking too. But because of its self centered management, stupid policies, arrogant natures and ridiculous pricing, they were no longer the pride of the technological world. They too adopted WinCE and Win Mobile, in the end they were not even worth the look. I know because I used to use their machine.

Gartner's report was incorrect and mentions over all mobile devices for entire 2010. Where as IDC only accounted Android devices activated. Not every Android Device needs to be activated. If going by devices shipped based on OS, Android overtook symbian.

When I saw the title of this article all I could come up with is "...urgh... why?" Then I remembered that Nokia's new CEO comes from Microsoft. Well, it's not the worst idea he could have come up with... Although I must admit, it's FAR from being the best.

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2011Clearly you are the one not doing research.
At the end ... morethe compiled reports of the four analyst houses showed Symbian at No.1, both in Q4 and the whole 2010.
But it's over now. Thanks to the trojan.

AnonD-1191, 12 Feb 2011it cleary indicates joy in ur mind sure u r non eropeanYes, I am from the United States but I do travel a lot and Nokia is trying to provide U.S. and other countries with better technology. Why can't we all have an opinion about this without someone downing our comments. If I like the merger then I like the merger. Lets all be adults PLEASE for ONCE.
