I think yes os is important but not everything. Almost everyone is using Android or WP7 so the only difference will be the hardware. I still think Nokia has the best hardware out there. Nothing out there looks as good as Nokia's E7 & N8. All the other phones look too alike you cannot tell one from another and its hard to get excited about something that looks like everything else. I even like the design of the Nokia WP7 concept very nice. I am sick of all these other phones. Smartphones are becoming increasingly boring in terms of design. Why would I go out and buy a new phone that looks exactly like the one I had before. I will wait for the Nokia WP7. Nokia will be around for years to come they are not going to disappear overnight. The chance for a rebound is excellent especially now that they have access to the vast U.S market. People are just getting excited by headlines.

So Elop basically trashed Symbian on his "burning platform" memo and they don't have anything for this year but some Symbian phones. Now why would anyone buy a Nokia Symbian phone when it's about to get phased out soon? That's a very wise move. Nokia's stock will get cheaper and cheaper and maybe one day Microsoft will buy Nokia for cheap.

Here I'm just commenting on symbian
I think symbian must have an end in the coming 3years
Reinventing a new UI is their last bet on symbian
If it still sells poor, nokia may kill it earlier
Inversely, nokia may give it more time

Mr. Elop had a previous employment in Microsoft. Thats why he is a die-hard fan of WP7. Nokia still has time to rethink its strategy. WP7 will be nowhere near Android phones. Android has something special in its name which WP7 doesn't.

i am a loyal fan of nokia but this looks like they are showing us they have nothing to offer for atleast 6 mothes. and that looks like a major weakness while their competitors are gunning down for their spot at the top.

ravi4ever, 14 Feb 2011these prototypes looks great to me.. all the best..yes, looks great... But... 2 things... 1) The rhythm of work of nokia is paintfully slow, so i don't think you have the chance to have one of this thing in your hands this year... maybe, and maybe announced by november.... but with all the typical delays of nokia, maybe and with luck in 2012 march.... 2) running WP7 is not attractive, Elop said that nokia choose WP7 over Android, because they don't wanna swimm in the sea of android manufacturers, but hey, 3 giant are making WP7 phones htc, samsung, lg... so is a lame answer... for me

jepp_2006, 14 Feb 2011nokia at its competition just upgrade hardware features lik... morebut , the hardware is just the 50% of the smartphone xperience, or even less, the software is veeerrry important too, and all the ecosystem that come with that you know, applications, games, social apps, browser experience... that things are becoming more important today...

Yeah, all the biggest companies (motorola, samsung and finally sonyericsson) abandoned symbian and adopted Android, because symbian is nothing but bullshit.
And nokia realised it now, though it's a bit late. There's a lot of time for Microsoft and Nokia to develop WP7.
You guys blamed Apple and now Microsoft as if you are using Android powered PCs lol

Nokia have a bunch of extremely well engineered middle class phones which the general public will like. Think about the C3-01 and X3-01 - these are great phones with robust construction. They have both steel covers for the battery as well as steel plating inside. So, yes they are competitive - if not by the gigahertzs - by the sole construction quality. At the end you want a toy that's not only interesting to play with but won't be broken on its first day, right?

Well, I will be glad to have nokia with WM7. It seems to be interesting. Hopefully, the prices will not grow.
