The new Nokia 3310: a tug on the heart strings that failed

02 March 2017
The 3310 is fondly remembered but this does not feel like a genuine attempt to resurrect it.

Wasn't the original of this phone the one that had the battery strength and signal strength meter going all the way up the sides of the screen instead of discreetly in the top corners? Really distracting and annoying.

Smart move by Nokia. The sheep will flock to buy these things then leave them in a drawer while using their smartphones.

The whole hype and cult status of the original 3310 has been way overblown. It was never made as a rugged phone. Its no more or less tough than any other Nokia from that period. People just chose to make it the mascot for how phones used o be made because its the most familiar handsome face. Nobody remembers the purpose built tough phones, and others models not a nice looking or as recognisable as 3310 - its all a response to the frustrations of modern smartphones that break all the time: something to help reminisce about the "god old days" when phones didn't shatter as soon as they fell out of your pocket. So it was impossible to do a good remake of a phone whose cult status does necessarily speak to what the real thing was in its time. I think this was just PR stunt to get Nokia front page status - the hype about the "comeback" had worn off and the new mid-rangers launched at MWC are good phones but they simply don't stand out enough to create any kind of buzz.

if nokia could get it cheap there will be a huge segment willing to buy it, i never really liked the original 3310, i used to like the 1100 better, but the modernized look seems better IMO

            Epic fail can't be worst

So many Nokia fanboys in the comment section. This phone is a complete shit for these days and it's nowhere as indestructible as any other manufacturer's phone. I'd rather buy a cheap Chinese phone with a touchscreen and basic functionality as even when being completely basic it'd still be more premium than Series 30+. It's obvious that Nokia sells well just because of the brand name, they haven't brought anything exciting yet so they rely on nostalgia. Reminds me dedicated iSheeps.

Heretic, 02 Mar 2017it looks crappy and cheapSo does the price. You got a problem with that?

Not just this, but the other Nokia phones, the 6, 5 and 3 too aren't that great quality, design or build that the original Nokias back in the day did. Neither do they have the spirit of the nokia. Nokias were unique in their own way. The new Nokias are just a gimmick, just a way to cash in on the nostalgia most people have about a Nokia phone. I myself have owned some Nokia phones in the past and seeing the new ones unveiled at MWC, I must say I'm very disappointed. Nokia is now just another ordinary smartphone like a million other pieces of cheap electronics we have in the market today. Nothing special or extraordinary. I'm glad with my Motorola Droid Turbo 2, it's rugged, powerful and indestructible smartphone, better than most smartphones in the market today.

Agree that this is one of the more pointless phones releases in recent memory. The few who will buy it out of nostalgia will soon regret it and pass it on to their kids to keep them from playing with their smartphones. At least the 3310 comes in loud colors which kids love!

Its downright ugly. The shape and default colour are the worst combination imaginable. I knew it would not be very good, but this thing is disgrace. I would be ashamed to to use it in public. My old nokia 1100 in grey is good enough for now

this is a failure, first the material choosen is still plastic no different then other feature phone of Nokia, then the durability pls upload some drop test. Remember Nokia phones can be washed can be thrown from 3rd floor window and you reassemble back it is working. We do not wanted a nostaligic phone after gettting so many hipe in such a body. Network is not capable to work in all over the world. Battery is still raising question on stand by time. Seriously !!
