Samsung came in second with 14.6%.

Android vendors are undercutting each other to survive and are bundling everything short of their wife to sell their smartphones. Than come here to whine Apple is ripping their customers off. Too funny...

In short, that 300 dollar phone can't run iOS. Thats why iPhone sales are very high still when big android companies sales are strugling because of those chinese companies.

Samsung makes less profit because they mostly sell low and mid end phones. If samsung could sell 50 million S7 in quarter they would do a whole lot more profits. You know when S4 was very popular samsung collected 40% of market profits. S4 is samsung best selling galaxy phone.

You'd think that prices would be starting to come down by now with all them players in the market. Like they did for say laptops after a while. But no - its almost like there is a unspoken unwritten gentlemans agreement not to lower prices. Samsungs calculations must show that by lowering prices they do not increase overall profits. Perhaps because they think Apple has the population so transfixed that lowering Samsungs prices will little effect. Ample grounds for a univerisity class in a new discipline - irrational marketing.

Well, quite an expected news, isn't it? :D Something you could've predicted if you judge the market with an open unbiased mind. Of course, if you're into Apple, you will find something that contradicts this....
                      Anyhow, a total LOL news.

That 79% number is their profit from the entire mobile industry, not per phone sold. Apple's profits from device sold is around mid to high 30%. As per you other comment, let's not forget the goal of every oem is to make as much profits as possible. None of those oem's are non-profits, so let's stop with that bs. Facts shows that iPhones costs about the same to make as all the other premium devices and sell for about the same as their main competitor (Samsung, HTC, Google, LG etc.).

This only proves that for example Samsung and all the rests are selling a lot more of their $200 devices (galaxy J series) than the Note or GS7 series. Those oem's chose to sacrifice profits for Market shares.

The 2015 year which you keep trying to use as a negative is easily explained. That was the first time they offered a big screen iPhone and a lot of folks than normal jumped on it. Its easily proven too, when analysts take the anomaly 2015 year out Apple is exactly where they would have been if they were projecting from 2013 to 2016. That maybe hard for you to understand and since you want to spin it negatively you may want to close your ears and shout "I can't hear you."

You are trying to take their 2015 year (which is easily explained btw) as a negative when it was an anomaly. Samsung on the other hand have been going down since 2013 but you don't want to address that since it does not jibe well with you bashing on Apple.

Reading some of these comments some people have misread the artical. Apple does not have 79% of the market Share , they make 79% profit from every phone sold. Samsung makes less profit because it dosn't rip their customers off. Makes me laugh when people comment without reading the story.

Truth is that this comes to prove that instead of exerting dominance they are losing ground. Ant that's a good thing...otherwise they would not be focusing on making a real update to their line instead of the incremental stuff they have being doing for a while now.

I am no Apple or Android 'fanboy', but over the years I've seen how Apple (iphone in particular) psychologically affects the youth and certain grown individuals in a society.
The logic is quiet simple, a poor individual purchases an iphone for its status and so does a wealthy or middle class individual. The the poor individual decides to sell his device due to maintenance issues and the middle class individual slowly follows the footsteps of poor individual. Both the poor and middle class individuals switch to android and realize what they've been missing out. later on they both become Android 'fanboys' and start bashing Apple products.

The opposite can be said for those who switch from a "low or middle end" Android smartphone to an Iphone. But in the end its all up to you, yes you. But when the choices you make 'causes' others to reach out and help you, then its something you should consider/change.
