with 8 kryo cores vs 4 M2 + 4 Cortex A53 and a single core performance almost the same i think qualcomm had a very bad time optimizing the multithread performance in the SD835 . logically speaking if they are equal in single core applications the SD835 should be much faster in multicore.that gives us an idea about how qualcomm optimize their multicore performance .

What was not known is (for) how much. Apparently they had reason to hoard because unlike last year this year's exynos almost matches this year's Snapdragon (last year it was like 30% faster at lower wattage, insane things) ... so they hoarded the SoCs so nobody else is to use them thus challenging their chip.

Last year they couldn't care less because Exynos was already a beast and indeed nobody would challenge them for the first half of the year. This year's Exynos is underwhelming ... as I feared when I heard that they're hoarding Snapdragons (only reason to hoard a "weak" chip is if yours is weak too).

I always wonder why is that. In this age smartphones are pretty much similar in technologies so i don't believe that Apple is doing some kind of miracle."

Phones most times don't use more than one or two cores. And it's also very easy to just add more cores, what Apple does is way more harder. So yes Apple is kind a doing somekind of miracle making their chipset so powerful comparing to everyone else.

That's why Apple is putting lot of effort to make those single cores as powerful as they can be because that makes the biggest difference in speed. Thats why Apple have fastest iPhone and iPad year after year and the difference is getting bigger and bigger.

This S8 propably not going to be beat iPhone 7 in speed and with iPhone 8 the difference is going to be even bigger.

Fluid animations is inherently dependend on a good GPU. Sonu4678, 17 Mar 2017Android phones focus on multi core chips but Apple focuses ... moreYou are actually pretty correct, it is all about process handling and how the OS offloads and parses active/standby applications. You can also add, that Android (now natively) supports running dual, and in some cases, multiple active applications at once (UI's that have window modes for applications). Now this is also based in how the applications are built, if they parse, and utilize more than one core simultaneously or utilize a single one, and in most cases iOS applications parse 1 core, while Android applications utilize anywhere from 1-4 cores. Now where Apple benefits here is single platform optimization, Devs can optimize and develop applications perfectly utilizing the A10 core or cores for maximum benefit, where Androids don't have that luxury (in a sense a console vs PC situation)

Sonu4678, 17 Mar 2017Android phones focus on multi core chips but Apple focuses ... moreApple is not doing some kind of miracle. Their OS is antiquated and offering little to no chance for real multiprocessing. That leads to little to no needs for multi-core performance.

Android benefits from multi-threaded CPUs for years by comparison: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9518/the-mobile-cpu-corecount-debate/18

That's one of the strengths of android. But I do agree that they should try to make wider CPUs too. They're pretty much stuck to similar single-core performance for years.

A 2500-3000 single core would be better applicable for this time and age...

Android phones focus on multi core chips but Apple focuses on single core performance. I always wonder why is that. In this age smartphones are pretty much similar in technologies so i don't believe that Apple is doing some kind of miracle. The answer i found is related to how both OSs differ from each other.
In iOS, closing an app completely freezes that app and when a new app is being opened all of its resources go to that single app. Unlike iOS, android do parallel multitasking, it means that its resources go to different apps. That's why it needs multiple cores. It's just my speculation though, i welcome any productive input.

A better GPU can't be used by games because they're maxed by last year's GPUs ... a 3-5% better battery is never used either as SoC only accounts for 30% of total battery consumption, so a 5% better SoC battery is actually only 2% in total numbers (nobody cares, just make the battery 2% bigger).

In short yeah. CPU performance is what matters and it's pitiful compared to last year's (side-by-side would almost be identical).

BTW radios don't matter either. 4G as it stands only used 1/5th of the total bandwidth that *last* year's radios offered. It would be at least half a decade before we'd need better radios. SoCs are 99% about CPU performance ...

You make yourself looks even more desperate with every comment, trying desperately to make your point valid by replying to everyone who are againts your statement.

I understand your point. But the 10nm process is hard and time consuming. Samsung and even TSMC had trouble making the 10nm chipset to meet demands. Why would they burden themselves to make an inferior version of the SD 835 (or a SD 830 as you call it) when they already have the SD 821 to meet those types of demands? Why would they waste time, money, and effort applying a 10nm process on a lower end form of the SD 835 when they can fully focus and concentrate on applying the 10nm process on their upcoming flagship, the SD 835? At this moment, even the SD 835 is still aren't enough for everyone, so they need all the time and effort they can get to meet those demands for the SD 835. Your method are just for the short-term, which is not so good for business.

I'm sorry if you feel annoyed or triggered by my statement. It is what it is. But please, don't even bother to reply back. I get a feeling that you would just repeat your statement, and a repetitive argument is no fun to me and it gets boring pretty quick. Have a nice day JB :)
