Hope most of you must have got 2.3.7, and use the theme from GOthemes, it will be superb phone.
So far this tiny set is one of the best lifesavers..
I keep it in my pocket as a wireless modem, for my locked iphone 4S-which is always on with airplane mode with wifi on.

I am enjoying ginger bread with full functions on my humble I5503, or G5 as you would like to call it.

Root the phone- Easy Google it you will find it easily.

ok i fed up to from samsung delays so i upgraded to froyo via samfirmware here is the link : (registration is free and required)

Update to 2.2.1 via the Galaxy S Kies for CNX and COA, the update to update to I5800 and I5500 will be available by Easter (April 24, 2011). We communicate on Facebook and Twitter updates as the publication of each make them available via Kies.

just google a bit, you'll get all the details..
or go to techbits.co.in, you will get all the details...
I had a serious problem by using the wrong firmware, I used I5508, which bricked my phone, but at the service centre I got it back as 5503, then and there infront of the tech guy I made it Froyo as I had the laptop and my sw with me...
Goodluck to all..
Battery is a small issue...
Other things outweighs this small issue...

i hope you, samsung see it ... you are a failed company and brand ... all i see is people like me who bought samsung devices and the samsung support is a shit, we can not synchronize the device with pc ... omg you think they may be the best brands, giving this type of support ... i made a purchase unhappy when i bought my 3 galaxy: (

Whether we get update or not for this phone, there is one thing I have learnt: Android phones updates will be forgotten as soon as they made the big profit after sales. It is the same situation with Bada and Symbian phones.

Stop giving false hope and stsrt being true to your words samsung. I was really impressed when i first got my galaxy 5. But after a while the 2.1 seems to be very outdated. I've been waiting for this update for 6 months now. I think they will release the update when this phone is outfeatured by new models. I might switch phones next week samsung updates really is the downside. As for romania they are still testing! Testing what? They released galaxy mini with froyo which is basically the same hardware features except for a bigger screen and higher camera resolution. Common give us a break.
